Jackson State Football (The Downfall of a Rich Heritage)

HELLLLLLL NO. That's not fair to our fans. Even though we have been down, they still show. They deserve so much more.
I concur. Do you believe that the institution currently capable of doing it. It reminds me of Redskins fans here in DC. They are so faithful to that team and yet you have a owner who has proven that he is unwilling to take the appropriate steps to give them a quality product on the field. He had two coaches that tried to clean up the culture and he ran them both out of town.

What would be the point of shutting down the program if current decision-makers/administration are left in place?

I think the football program can turn around by hiring a dynamic, younger coach that can galvanize the fan base and push the program forward. Also, an AD that's competent.

Just someone competent with a viable plan would do. He could be young or seasoned, it doesn't matter.

Remove them or wait for them to leave. Right now there is either one of three things going...
1)We do not have the capability to put together a competitive program
2)We do not have the resources to put together a competitive program
3)We do not have the desire to put together a competitive program.

If the answer is #1, address the knowledge or skills gap and keep going.
If the answer is #2 then either we need to find the resources or just move on
If the answer is #3, then we just stop this charade.

I think it's No. 1. The leadership just doesn't have the capability to make smart decisions regarding building a football team.

Comegy lost two SWAC title games basically the same way. Plus, I think there were other issues brewing there. Moving on from Comegy at the time made sense....

You never fire a coach that is winning games. You incentivize them to win championships and give them enough resources to do it.

For some reason, HBCU alumni let career academics run their athletic programs.

Bynum don't care if yall turn into Valley...might want to start at the top!
IMHO I don't see yall being successful under his tenure

Heritage is engraved in Stone and does not wax and wane with the Win and Losses. The Author of this thread may have been referring to our Tradition of winning?

your right. honestly with the attendance numbers jsu bring in even tho they re a struggling program is still larger than other schools with winning programs. So it balances out. It would be different if jsu was losing and the fans didnt show up, but they still do. So the money is still flowing. Not to start smack but a school with similar fan support is SU which has had a decent program over the past years and there average home attendance still doesnt match JSU and jsu is losing.

Does JSU have a top 5 SEC school in town to compete with?

Lower ticket prices and giveaways are good ways to put butts in the seats, but very little revenue in return. Once the ticket prices go up and the giveaways dry up, the attendance numbers would go down. Our attendance haven't been the same since the board made the decision to raise ticket prices. Plus, Katrina didn't help. I'm sure our revenue is about the same compared to the 80's and 90's due to higher ticket prices. Somewhere, the SU Board needs to find a happy median with ticket prices and attendance, but for some strange reason they think they can copy what LSU does, which is a totally different case scenario. Also, they need to learn how to adjust ticket prices base on the popularity of the opponent, such as the Jackson State game should remain a high value game, whereas there should be tons of giveaways for the VUL game. Even though you might make very little revenue on ticket sales, but you could quite possibly makeup the difference in concessions.

Also, the VUL game would be a good game to invite 10k high school kids to attend and invite Talladega's band (a school without a football team) to perform for VUL (a school without a band). I think football is all VUL has.

Inviting Dega would be a good idea. They would be trying so hard.

I knew that was going to be the response. Keep in mind my earlier comment only suggested that JSU has done well when it comes to attendance especially being a struggling program compared to some winning programs attendance and I used SU as an example. If your suggesting LSU hurting yall that bad to the fact that the reason for the smaller attendance is because your fans are at an LSU game, then those would be considered more so LSU fans and not SU's wouldn't you agree. Though Mississippi State is not in Jackson, people from jackson if desired could easily take the trip to starkville. On top of that, does Louisiana have 2 SEC schools??? BOTH Ole Miss and Mississippi State are within a 2 and a half hour drive from jackson..... People choose to do what they want, nothing stopping our fans from taking that drive but instead they choose jsu football. FACTS. If you wanted to get technical JSU fans could easily stay at home and watch almost any Power 5 game on TV, which is actually a serious sports conversation.. A SIDE NOTE: Its not like all our fans are from Jackson, so those same folks that TRAVEL to our games could easily TRAVEL to oxford and starkville. If those are truly SU fans then there going to be in A W Mumford no matter what. So basically the statement you made suggested that you guys have supporters that are FANS of LSU. LMAO. Well when attendance matters, I rather have fans. Fans usually attend games of there institution that they are a fan of. Supporters can root for you anywhere including home, jail, casino or in SU case at an LSU game. lol

Two and a half hour drive vs a 10-30 minute drive. That’s only one of the factors involved.
