Rendering OF AAMU new arena

@DAHILL @TvSportsGuy21 what's up with this ...

Alumni from an Alabama university are calling on the state to stop the demolishing of old campus buildings by enforcing a law designed to protect Confederate statues.

Alabama A&M University alumni have asked the state's Attorney General to stop the university’s plans to destroy several historical campus buildings to make space for new facilities, including a $50 million event center, WAFF-TV reported.

Old folks doing what old folks do.... they dont want the dorm they lived in.... or cafeteria they ate in to be demolished.... even though NOBODY has been in the building in over 20 years. Has nothing to do with the event center though. The event center is on the other side of campus by the football stadium.

A lot of the older alums are trying to hold onto historically old buildings that have been condemned for years. Plus there were 2 Board meetings in 2019 that were open to the public in which they presented information about the possible demolition of these buildings. There wasn't muc opposition then so I don't know why are they making a big deal now. Plus the Event Center is on the other side of campus.

If the Event Center is on the other side of the campus, what facilities will replace the buildings?

In the place of the old cafeteria at Councill's grave, they will build a memorial structure and place an eternal flame on the grave. They will replace Hurt Hall with a green space and parking lot.

The Alabama A&M bulldogs are getting a new addition to campus!

Officials from Turner Construction Company announced October 29 that construction has begun on the new 132,000-square-foot event center and arena on Alabama A&M University’s (AAMU) campus.
We’re told the new space will include an arena with a 6,000-person capacity, locker rooms, training rooms, a Hall of Fame honoring former AAMU student athletes, and a kitchen with the capability to provide meals for all events on campus!
The arena will host sporting events such as basketball and volleyball games, student graduation ceremonies, and other university functions. The university has previously rented offsite facilities for these activities. But now, they’ll have their very own space.
“The center will provide the university with a much-needed facility where we can host major functions, such as commencements, convocations, our annual scholarship gala, and athletic events,” said Andrew Hugine, Jr., President of Alabama A&M University. “It will be a state-of-the-art facility just off of North Memorial Parkway, and we are thrilled to be making this addition for our students and the community, which will transform the landscape of north Huntsville.”
Turner is representing AAMU as the construction management agent (CMa) for the project.
“We are excited to partner with Alabama A&M on our fourth project together,” said Tyce Hudson, project executive at Turner Construction Company in Huntsville. “We have experienced a lot of success together and there is no doubt that this is going to be the best project yet. It is going to be an excellent facility for Alabama A&M University and the community.”

Hopefully all who will use it were involved in the planning so you get full usage for the next 30 years. Surprised vb will move in there as Elmore was an advantage

Honestly our volleyball games have more fans than our basketball games sometimes... everybody comes out for volleyball... plus our head coach is the owner of the largest club volleyball program in North Alabama, so there are plenty of young volleyball players at each game.

can't wait until it's done..North Huntsville will be impacted greatly by this catalyst for development and business!
