Alcorn Narrows Head Football Coach Down to 3

Why did it take them so long to name spears head coach and McNair the OC
I suggested they do that weeks ago... so those guys could jump into recruiting.
It was a no-brained that spears would be head. Once he said to the media that he felt CONFIDENT this time lol
(why not the other times?) bc he already knew. Lol
Alcorn knew Spears would be the coach. I honestly think they contacted spears way back when the truth/"rumors" surfaced about ole boy applying for the other job.
It only makes sense to hire McNair as OC bc you already know he has interest in coaching at Alcorn.
This hire just might work out for Alcorn. Spears might be there for a good while.
After the last two coaches. Honestly, Alcorn deserves longevity.

I respect ur post MBigg but Alcorn has nothing but Air Canada who didn't show me much against JSU bold statement u jus made, not takin anything away from the Shades guy but he won't be at Grambling it's Alcorn....don't think Spears is gonna walk thru jus becuz he's a head man again not gonna happen! Kongratz Alcorn see ya in November!

I was being semi-sarcastic. But the entire league has a lot of parity right now...no telling what team will rise up and take it.

games may be hyped but won't draw much at the gate as everyone will have sideline passes :emlaugh:

Alcorn has develped a culture wehre fans don't wanna buy tickets. We all have that problem but ALcorn is the "hook-up" capital of the world. But don't get it twisted. Even when McNair was at Alcorn, only the home side filled up. They need to let their fans know that Spinks stadium is THEIRS and that there is no visitor side.

Alcorn's own has come back, i think their fans will come back especially if they have McNair as OC. Good for the SWAC.

Mike, I don't totally agree with that.. We have seen some changes made in the 2000s and some teams got to shine. However, it is much harder to maintain a program than to build one. At the end of the day, Alcorn will have problems with JSU just as JSU has problems with Grambling. That's just how it is.

I have always looked at Alcorn as a team with little talent but a lot of heart. They rarely go two deep in any position but their starters play their hearts out and they believe in themselves. I don't see Spears as a dominant coach with Bridge will give him a good 3 years. That is the key to success right now. Now Spears has to form a staff. He he gets Roach, I might be scared. and if he gets Fred I think that is good shot in the arm for the program.

With all that being said, Alcorn is and always be a part of the Big 3.5 and I hope they beat the brakes off of ya'll.

Braveheart,

Let me "learn" you something. You don't know good coaches.

1. Carl Roberts is the worst o-line coach of all time.
2. LC Cole is one of the worst DCs of all time.
3. Darrin Hayes has a great defensive system but it only works when you have the right players to fit it. When you don't have the right players, he is clueless and does not know how to fit personnel to a different scheme.

The DC you want is Roach. Alcorn might have a 213 degree defense then...

TP please go play bruh..... Why you want them to beat us because JSU can't ????? lol

Spears hasn't beat us with any school he has been apart of so i don't see that happening with Alcorn, now i believe Alcorn will beat the crap out of Jackson and the rest of the East, Spears is a nice recruiter so you hope may backfire.

Alcron needs a good recruiter so I hope Spears is the man to do it. I also hope Fred joins the staff becasue that should help with recruits as well. I don't know about SU and GSU, but JSU and Alcorn typically recruit different kids and different areas. We will always have more talent that Alcorn just as Grambling will always have more talent than Southern. I also can't see Spears out coaching Comegy.

Some things in football just don't change. Unless something out of the ordinary happens, Alcorn and Southern ...and AAMU, and AlaState...lol ..and PV....(you get the point) will always struggle with JSU. Comegy had a rocky start at JSU but I have the feeling the next 2-3 years are gonna be good and he will be consistent.

Spears been with sorry schools bruh. They are not like Alcorn. Alcorn is gonna whoop up on ya'll and you know they bring the heat on the Reservation...we don't have to play them there..

TIM buckley whos in the NFL was punter when jT was in charge. Arceneaux still playing in the cfl. Spiller is done and Hughes is soon to be done. The next one is ed johnson to play professional. Great gets for ol jt, but ask those guys who coached them. Yep you ve guessed it. Hint. Not an alcornite. You let him get out of lorman. He also brought u brandon bridge... he was their position coach and last year oc... being an alcornite isn't the recipe, braveheart. White, mcnair, and spears is not the answer. The answer just left for Colorado. Imo. Sadly most of the collegiate coaches are in agreement. Alcornites need to quit letting the class of 52.55.56. Run the institution. Those old folks are out of touch. Hell they marched on johnny Thomas as if this was the civil-rights march of 50 s and 60s. I heard that most cannot make it pass the ol gas station on campus coming from Dave Whitney gym. Got in their cars and left. LOL discrimination at its best... must be an alcornite. Something that those old alums fought against for years, now using it as a criteria in hiring a football coach. Must be an alcornite, not the best candidate... look at hoops program.. enough said...

For the record all those players you just named were recruited by an Alcornite. Coach Collins didn't coach Spillers or Hughes. We gave an non-Alcornite a chance in Coach Collins and he left on his own accord. So you can't say Alcorn wouldn't give an outsider an chance. And please tell me who is on the prevouis Alcorn Staff was more qualified than Spears including Coach Collins.

Just my two cents... Yall Braves need to come together on this hire (at least publicly). Nothing is more sickening than seeing folks continue to bittch and moan years after a hire has been made.

We whip up on teams in their own stadium constantly, Alcorn is no different.

Hey Mike 18_Keeper is not an Alcornite probably a groupie of someone. Now Braveheart123, well the jury is still out on that cat. Seems like someone would know him and if he's not willing to let us know who he is, then I say he's not an Alcornite as well.

Now the rest of the Braves, there are no problems.

I just listened to the press conference and Melvin was definitely "pumpin'" my fellow Alcornites up for an exciting ride with him as the new head football coach! Anxious to see who all the assistants will be. Can't wait until the 2011 football season!
