Alcorn Narrows Head Football Coach Down to 3

mc nair is correct. that committee led by Dr. Edney (A JOKE, IMO) have their minds made up. mc nair;s comments could mean that he is out of the race as the head coach. i think dwayne white, is a dark horse candidate. the committee composed of all alcornites - "rat" no swac baseball championships mcgowen, melanie wells- student (who couldnt play herself), marcus "i never have laced them up" wade. memo: to the new head coach. mc gowen will do "anything" to get his son your staff!!!:retard::scared: the scary thing is that the AD is not even on the committee- WRITING ON THE WALL FOR SQUARE- get gone asap!! as far as hoops, thats an alcornite too, in which you guys wanted. sheesh!!!:shame: good luck...

:xeye: Dude, Ferriday is an extension of Grambling, Vidalia is an extension of Grambling/Southern, and Natchez is an extension of JSU. Alcorn is extension of Hazelhurst and Fayette. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i agree!!! AND PORT GIBSON, PATTERSON,WESTSIDE,RUSSUM, AND RED LICK. LOL

basketball coach at alcorn, isnt he an alcornite?? his assistant too?? wow, sure can pick-em.... a joke.. recruiting keeps passing the braves by. this should have been done asap.

Alcorn: LEAVE DWAYNE WHITE WHERE HE IS AT!!!!

There is a reason why he is the President of this NFL Association NOW instead of coaching NOW. With the Seahawks in 2009.....before Pete Caroll was brought in exactly. SEE THROUGH THE SMOKE!!!

The Last Thing Alcorn ESPECIALLY DOESN"T NEED is another Stump Mitchell as our Head Coach.

Flip a coin. This so little league.. coach should have been named. Better have some recruits...

Calm down dude there will be one named on Wednesday for the IHL to approve on Thursday. We do realize there is a thing called advertisement in the state of MS. The only problem with the whole thing was the length it took for Collins to be hired to actually start the process to begin a search.

Only at the hbcus we have to advertise first. Tell that advertising crap to miss st. And ole miss or so miss. I guess the process only applies to smaller schools.. rules don't apply to the hiring of mullen, nutt, and fedora Hired immediately, dude

I dont understand how you hire spears over mcnair.... McNair brings to much to the table, Spears brings Drama and a bigger then life ego...

Dear Alcorn: It SHOULD be either Melvin Spears or Fred McNair.

I beg of you Alcorn, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make the right decision. I support Melvin Spears as my personal first choice but if he is not the guy for the job, my second choice will be Fred McNair.

Alcorn Administration, realize the importance of this hire. Yes, academics is always first and foremost in any institution. HOWEVER, academics alone cannot build that college quality known as school spirit. Student will always come before athlete but hell, in the South, Athletics is the #1 past time for students, alumni, fans, etc. The football program needs excitement.

I understand that we have Alcornites playing professional football in the NFL, CFL, Arena League, etc. that played after the McNair years. But let's be honest, the last great football team Alcorn had was during the reign of Charlie Spiller, Nate Hughes, Jeremy McCoy, Lonnie Teagle, etc. all on the field in Brave uniform. Those years between 1995-2001 were HELL (How Johnny Thomas was still Head Coach after the 0-11
season is a mystery I will never understand). But, JT cannot take all the blame.

Every coach is different. Some who you expect to win, do not (Mike Singletary, etc.) while others you do not expect to win do (Gene Chizik, etc.) I'm just asking that we make the right, logical choice for once so that no matter what our next coach's record is, we can say that he indeed was the best candidate for the job at the time.

This is it Alcorn. Let's finally take a big step into THE PRESENT with an opportunity for a golden FUTURE. It's now or never.

Re: Dear Alcorn: It SHOULD be either Melvin Spears or Fred McNair.

would you support Spears over another coach who has multiple SWAC titles and notable OOC wins if he applied?

TIM buckley whos in the NFL was punter when jT was in charge. Arceneaux still playing in the cfl. Spiller is done and Hughes is soon to be done. The next one is ed johnson to play professional. Great gets for ol jt, but ask those guys who coached them. Yep you ve guessed it. Hint. Not an alcornite. You let him get out of lorman. He also brought u brandon bridge... he was their position coach and last year oc... being an alcornite isn't the recipe, braveheart. White, mcnair, and spears is not the answer. The answer just left for Colorado. Imo. Sadly most of the collegiate coaches are in agreement. Alcornites need to quit letting the class of 52.55.56. Run the institution. Those old folks are out of touch. Hell they marched on johnny Thomas as if this was the civil-rights march of 50 s and 60s. I heard that most cannot make it pass the ol gas station on campus coming from Dave Whitney gym. Got in their cars and left. LOL discrimination at its best... must be an alcornite. Something that those old alums fought against for years, now using it as a criteria in hiring a football coach. Must be an alcornite, not the best candidate... look at hoops program.. enough said...

Man sit down somewhere. You are starting to make Braveheart seem like the normal guy around here.

Alcorn Passing on McNair is Like Grambling passing on Doug.. just saying, Spears was a good recruiter because he was able to use Dougs Name. with air Canada at QB, if McNair can steel Steve Jr. and he can get a few Linemen, then Alcorn can be a instant Beast. plus if he can get some of that mcNair money to the corn. then Alcorn becomes the team it was in the early 90s.

I could net begin to feel the pressure Steve Jr. would feel if Fred got that job and he ended up transferring to Alcorn.

Not meaning this as an endorsement or even disputing how you would feel... but I'd be happier than a Viagra salesman at a coed senior citizen home playing for my uncle!

DGTM,

My sentiments exactly. I am a firm believer that if the parents choose the institution a teenager must attend, that teenager is destined for either failure or bitter success (by bitter success, they will constantly have thoughts of "what could have been" or "if I know what I know now" once they graduate and hate themselves for attending the institution their parents or family members wanted them to attend.) I've seen this happen first-hand.

If Steve, Jr. does not want to attend Alcorn, DO NOT FORCE HIM. I rather him go somewhere else and graduate with a degree instead of playing football with pressure and expectations causing him to fail.

Alcorn, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVE MCNAIR on campus. Having total yardage of over 16,000 just does not happen anymore. The only person who might have even begun to travel REMOTELY CLOSE in recent times is Denard Robinson of Michigan. But he pales white in comparison to Steve McNair.

MB it's like this,

Doug Williams and his name are a fixture at Grambling right? Just hearing the name Doug Williams at Grambling, everyone knows who he is.

That is the same thing at Alcorn with the name Steve McNair but a little different. Alcorn really hasn't had a complete Championship-competitor football team since McNair left. On the other hand, you guys at Grambling have had many Championship teams since Doug Williams left. Bruce Eugene, Clyde Edwards, Frank Warren, Ab-Kuaan, Brandon Landers, Rod Broadway, etc. But you guys have competed and won football championships since Doug left as a player and as a coach.

Alcorn hasn't had that since McNair left (even though as I've stated numerous times, Spiller and crew were a team but once again a complete team means coaches as well). If Steve, Jr. came to Alcorn, like DGTM stated earlier, I could not begin to fathom the pressure on him. And at his age, pressure like that has been known to have dire consequences on a young person.
