I could net begin to feel the pressure Steve Jr. would feel if Fred got that job and he ended up transferring to Alcorn.
Fred McNair is an assistant coach at a 1A Highschool. Before that he was an assistant at a D-3 school. Now how do you go from that to being a HC on the FCS level? Just because his name is McNair? Come on Alcorn....out of the 3 finalists Spears is the obvious choice. Except I'm not very high on him either.
DGTM,
My sentiments exactly. I am a firm believer that if the parents choose the institution a teenager must attend, that teenager is destined for either failure or bitter success (by bitter success, they will constantly have thoughts of "what could have been" or "if I know what I know now" once they graduate and hate themselves for attending the institution their parents or family members wanted them to attend.) I've seen this happen first-hand.
If Steve, Jr. does not want to attend Alcorn, DO NOT FORCE HIM. I rather him go somewhere else and graduate with a degree instead of playing football with pressure and expectations causing him to fail.
Alcorn, THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVE MCNAIR on campus. Having total yardage of over 16,000 just does not happen anymore. The only person who might have even begun to travel REMOTELY CLOSE in recent times is Denard Robinson of Michigan. But he pales white in comparison to Steve McNair.
A McNair coming back to the reservation would put a lot of pressure on the Mcnairs but it would also bring back instantly the crowds that left after the last mcNair left. But one thing for sure is that Mississippi will be watching something Alcorn hasnt had in a while.MB it's like this,
Doug Williams and his name are a fixture at Grambling right? Just hearing the name Doug Williams at Grambling, everyone knows who he is.
That is the same thing at Alcorn with the name Steve McNair but a little different. Alcorn really hasn't had a complete Championship-competitor football team since McNair left. On the other hand, you guys at Grambling have had many Championship teams since Doug Williams left. Bruce Eugene, Clyde Edwards, Frank Warren, Ab-Kuaan, Brandon Landers, Rod Broadway, etc. But you guys have competed and won football championships since Doug left as a player and as a coach.
Alcorn hasn't had that since McNair left (even though as I've stated numerous times, Spiller and crew were a team but once again a complete team means coaches as well). If Steve, Jr. came to Alcorn, like DGTM stated earlier, I could not begin to fathom the pressure on him. And at his age, pressure like that has been known to have dire consequences on a young person.
Man sit down somewhere. You are starting to make Braveheart seem like the normal guy around here.
All what is said is true, but with his uncle as head coach and the track record of the family at Alcorn, plus he aint no scrub. yea there will never be another QB like his dad but he is a reciever so he will be adding a legacy branch to the family. he will be much better then his Uncle at reciever.
Plus the finicial side of hiring Mcnair will be huge..
This is all speculation. First of all, the McNairs should be giving money anyway. If they had, they would have more influence out there. Also, McNair JSU is a sign that things have changed. I am sure that is probably not as good as a receiver as his uncle Tim but yet he shunned Alcorn. There was no reason for him to want to sign with USM to begin with.
I think he is a little, correction, a lot better then tim, he was only a 4 star athlete out of Highschool. The thing with giving is (ive heard a lot of Alcorn Alumni say) that Alcorn has had the tendacy to ignore the fact that you have helped the school. you can read the article, in tell that what he is saying. lets be 100, when you think of alcorn you think of the mcnairs, in these times, the smart thing todo is go with what makes you the money.
When you talk about experience then, I look at Spears was giving a shot by his cousin, and he made something out of it... I dont see nothing going on in the SWAC that you need a coach with a Sh*t load of experence to be good. Doug didnt have a much experience but he came in and torched the SWAC. I think the key to win in the SWAC isnt experience but just the will to get good players and win, and your last name being McNair dont hurt.
If Alcorn Smart get McNair and watch you stands fill back up, at least for a few games.
WORD IS OLD PETE RICHERSON WAS AT ALCORN ST TODAY FOR A MEETING AT 9:00 AM. WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT? KNOWING YOUR AD DONT COUNT HIM OUT.:whine::whine:
Don't see why Alcorn couldn't afford Pete. They can pay him the same that paid the last coach. Ain't like Pete got any kind of leverage. Can Alcorn afford Pete or are they gonna get him on that retirment salary?
Congrats to Coach Spears, just heard he got the job.
LAAAWWWWDDDD :lmao:....if Pete decides to join Spears on staff. I'm going to have smack material on SU for days...:lmao:
....How???
won't happen.
