Southern's "Home Game" in Jackson/They talking every year now.

I would have moved this game to Shreveport before I moved it to Jackson, seriously. Tailgating is there, the game would make BOTH schools travel, and considering Grambling would be in Dallas for this weekend, we could have freaking racked up on recruiting and everything else. Not to mention Independence Stadium has over 50,000 seats so you can bury that excuse. Just one way thinking muthafuggas all around.

I'm not even pissed with the J-State fans who have rolled us all summer for this .... they should have.

:shame: I can't get over my own fools who are going to make this stupidity a damn success because they want to have a good time. All I can say is if you would have brought your ass to Mumford last year and this year, maybe we wouldn't be in this spot.

Since many of you state you are only going to "support the kids", why didn't you support the kids IN MUMFORD? They had nothing to do with the fieldhouse not being there. They had nothing to do with the schedule. They definitely had nothing to do with the dumbasses outside who made it harder to enjoy an SU gameday.

Shreveport would have been better. I was just there this past June and passed by Independence Stadium. But at the same time, what would have been the terms of the deal? I think Independence might hold right at 60K.

Very good post.

Honestly, as far as coming to the game or not. ... I'm not sure what i'd do in this situation. You want to support your team (by being there basically) and really support your school (financially) but... It really seems the SU fans are being taken advantage of in this situation. "Forget what they want... they will do what I say. It's for the overall good..." In essence LaFleur is basically saying "Let's burn down these trees so we can save the forest"... :retard:

Tough decision to make... but I think ya Jag fans aughta do the right thang and come on to Daddy's place Saturday. :) You can't boycott the game EVVVERY year... You'll get used to it. :)

Wasn't a tough decision this way. I'm just boycotting the game this year.

Outside of the Superdome, that was a no-brainer to keep shat in state.
I asked about Shreveport when this game was announced.
Almost got my head bit off cause I really don't think ya'll expected this game to be moved at the time.

All you Louisana SWAC members are mad as hell at Shreveport.
What is the problem?

Some say they treat us wrong ... others say there's nothing to do.

HELLO, there's a fugging football game. Go to the game, bring yo azz home.

but at the same time, won't that make it look like this is/was a great idea by your AD?

COMMON SENSE!

People don't change until you fugg with their money or their family.

If 15,000 people showed up for this game, it would force the leadership to think outside the box or at the least, re-think their plans @home.

Kerr did great things, but don't make this out to be he is the sole reason we were excelling and Lafleur is the sole reason why we are where we are now.

YOU know as well as I do .... neither of them had any major power to complete anything. You tell me all of thengs Kerr did and the money he made ... man, where did it go?

Kerr didn't get the fieldhouse finished (neither did Lafleur for that matter), but many of our fans said that was one of the reasons why they didn't renew. Our season tickets were high as hell in 2003 ... under Kerr, but from that point until now, they dropped to the 5500 + we have now. And yes, Lafleur has done little to increase it, I know.

Kerr was also responsible for the inital ticket increase. That didn't just happen last year.

Kerr got us the scoreboard, but we can't even make changes to it to gain more revenue as far as sponsors. The Jagathon was, IMO, his best accomplishment as it got our kids faces' on TV.

But, I fail to see how multiple years of "greatness" from Kerr could get pulled down by two years of Lafleur, since neither of them had that much power. So, either Kerr's greatness wasn't that great, or it's something bigger than both of them. IMO, it's a combination of the two.

Tony Clayton raised the prices not Kerr. And the scoreboard thing, Kerr had it worked out where SU would generate millions each season off that scoreboard in which we didnt pay a penny for but Lefleur nem didnt know how he had it set up, so they f it up lol . Kerr was a excellent fundraiser. Lefleur cant sell kittty in a jail , and dude isnt to bright. Have you ever heard him talk lol. THe field house was set to go until fat azz Johnny Anderson stopped it. THat wasnt on Kerr anyway. Under Kerr SU athletic department was ranked #124th in the country, ahead of alot of big schools at the time. Famu (164) and Hampton(175) were the only other HBCU's in the poll. I remember going into SAM's wholesale in Atlanta, and seeing a commercial on the TV's they had for sale. You know they were showing SU highlights on the demo's. Kerr had worked out some kind of deal with those folks to Show SU highlights @ all Sam's on their demo's.

I think folks are gonna show up for the mere fact that it IS SU and J State.
Many folks are sheep. They'll flock just because. :smh:
I tried to call C. Buggs at the radio station to comment on why Henry Baptiste should NOT have given that "final plea" to get folks to come after the SU/Alcorn game on Q106.

Alumni and supporters was looking foward to the game being held at Mumford with the new addition to the stadium. Believe me, if they don't show, that should send a message to those 2 dumbazzes who brokered this deal(HOPEFULLY). I know they got something up front or on the back end(under table).

Politics as usual...:smh:

Shreveport SUcks. SU fans hate Shreveport. Look @ the attendence of our last two games there.

Shreveport, I believe, would have bent over backwards to get this game. Look at who we have played there over the years.

NOrthwestern State .... all of their records at Turpin .... SOUTHERN. They don't fugging travel worth sh!t.

Prairie View .... if they won't come to the LDC, they ain't coming to Shreveport and they proved that.

Mississippi Valley .... need I say anything?

Other games there .... Grambling and AAMU .... yuck, nobody there.

This would have been the first game with marquee drawing power in there as a HBCU game. You draw from Jackson, Baton Rouge, Arkansas, and Dallas (for those who aren't supporting either PV and Grambling), and possibly Memphis.

Instead, we return to Jackson to draw from .... Jackson and Baton Rouge ... and I guess bandheads, who would have gone wherever the game was.

Just stupid!

I knew fat azz had something to do with that. Its all good, he got screwed in the end. LITERALLY!

Man my uncle lives in Shreveport and an alumnus of SU...Life Member. I know he would have gotten with Mayor Glover and all of the big whigs in Port City to make this happen. Plus, with the strong alumni base we have in Dallas? Sheeeeid!

If you believe that first statement, then how can you be all over Lafleur. Clayton is behind his stuff too. I don't doubt that Kerr was good. I just don't think he was as great as you are making him out to be .... part of the reason was who was behind him .... the same people behind Lafleur.

JSU travels to Grambling, but won't go to Shreveport? Getting the game there at State Fair time wouldn't be horrible, except for space. Hell, going to Jackson two years in a row isn't going to get us some extra players out of there. Going to Shreveport may have let us snag kids that otherwise would have looked at Grambling or ULM though.

Remember, this isn't my plan. I'm just helping you all see the great vision the Masterminds have put into this... :read: I believe the small print says "I may not get there with you, but we, Southern University, will get through the master plan". ;)

Peace...

Quiet as it's lkept (An old 70's expression), I wouldn't mind seeing the Gram-MSVU game played in Jackson for two years to guage crowd interest. Might be good for both schools. Both schools would save on travel cost and better crowd potential...

Grambling's prices are very similar to JSU's prices. Remember, these prices are like SU's prices. And if it is in Shreveport, if SU keeps the same price difference per sale, when the Fair Grounds adds its fee to each ticket, the prices are going to be bumped up even more. I remember the last time we went, before our current price structure, the tickets cost the same as our Bayou Classic tickets. I believe that was the PV game. I was like Shreveport has lost its mind and SU has also if thought people would pay this much to sit outside and watch PV back then (prior to this coach and Northern turning that program arounds). With the casinos filling the hotels and with the fair grounds wanting their share of tickets, Shreveport is expensive. And I can't see JSU fans filling that stadium outside of say the SWAC Championship or something like that.

I hate the game is moved especially to my rival's home field. I was always taught to dominate your home and fight to have home field advantage in the post-season.

So, I just have to believe my revelation has to be the real reason all of this is happening and we will all be so proud of the move here and Mobil from 3 to 5 years.

Certainly, they can't hear how dumb the idea sounds and it not really have some solid and brilliant insight and accountability behind and with it. Certainly...

Peace...

The DFW Jacksonians and Southernites even tried to get the two schools to come to Dallas when they were talkikng about New Orleans. If we had pulled that off one or two times, we'd have prime rights to get into Jerry's World for a year or two, which would open the door for a SWAC Championship there.

But, remember, the plan is to expand volume recruiting in MS, so we can start a major turnaround and expansion with our fellow boot state.

Peace...

Jerry's World is too big for us. LOL.

One thing someone got me to consider is that the fan base of the old SWAC is either old or dead. The younger generation isn't as rabid as we were about SWAC football. They are not the same. So as the fan base ages we are seeing a shift in who are the diehards. Now there has to be some gimmick to get fans to the seats now. Especially with so much competition for the entertainment dollar. Our schools administrations have not fully understood the shift and now they are pissing off the faithful ones with the foolish decisions they make while not endearing themselves to the new age fans.

We got to do better. Shrewd business minded folks would make Shreveport work. But you got to know what you are doing. Right now.....these cities need money. So they don't have no bargaining power. Perfect time to make some decent deals.

Our fan base is shrinking because we have allowed other colleges and universities (PWC) to chip away at it, while we remain traditional and doormat. We need to learn how to capture some of their fan support. If gangsta rappers can do it, so can HBCU.

I know folks ain't talking about Shreveport. We haven't drawn well there since forever. Plus the idea of moving it to Shreveport would be contrary to the argument that SU needs to play at home to help support the Scotlandville businesses.

There are certain cities with the crowd already there, even if the base travel base doesn't travel. LA, Atl, Chicago, Houston and Dallas fit that definition. The large SU and JSU alumni base in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex along would put a large fan base in any of the Metroplex's stadiums. Not to mention the interest of all of other HBCU alums and all of those high school students who would love to see the Jukebox and the Boom live.

The Nation lives on. It is just being picky with its support now. They showed up at the ULL game. You have to treat your customers with class and you can't handle them as though they are dummies or as if you can do anything and get away with it. Prove yourself wise and respectful and the numbers will show up consistantly again.

Another issue has been the SWAC's sceduling of the games. Somebody decided a few years ago, that each team should basically be home one month and on the road the next, while being on the road the other.

Remember how we use to layout the season, to travel and pick one or two home games to go to. For example, the game in Little Rock, Houston and Jackson would all be spreadout. So, we use to be able to make all of those along with HC and another good home game. When you was in the ATL, you could do the game in FL, AL and Jackson along with HC and a game or so in BR. Now, it seems like, not only are the months either home or away, but most of the games on the east side are close together and most of the games on the west side are close together. So, spreading your travel expenses out, is almost impossible now. And spreading out the weeks that your kids miss activity with their teams, becomes difficult also. So, the teams need a very solid base where ever their game is being played, since it becomes more of a strain on each school's travel fans to make all of the desired road games.

But all of this is off topic... The SWAC nor our schools care about what makes sense. SU and JSU will be in Jackson at least 5 years straight (2008, 2009, 2010 and after this weekedn 2011). The Mobil Classic is currently being revisited to extend it. So, we can all get use to traveling to Jackson, Mobil and Houston on a yearly basis. We've done the Houston trip for years. The Board is directing us now to and Jackson and Mobil to that yearly rotation.

Peace...

I stopped reading, right there. :|

I know you're kidding about NTx as fickle as these ppl are. lol Try it and watch what happens. :| I think UAPB and sTu can explain it a little bit better for you, if you'd like. If you're banking that Grambling and PVAMU alums and constituents would support such a game, you're smoking some pretty good wacky weed. lol The thought process behind the d/fw black college alliance whatchamacallit is a straight up farce. We don't support like that around here. lol :D

Dallas lol. Please.

If I didnt have shat to do that weekend, I def would go. It could be any game in Memorial I would go. I understand why GR wants the SCG in Jackson, because people will show up just because something is going on. Thats the mentality here in Jackson, been like that every since I was lil. You would have to live here to understand. As yall were......

I think it goes w/out saying that if we had a choice, the first choice would be Mumford. However, if you are going to move a game where the visiting team is closer to Shreveport than you are and it's between their city and Shreveport, you go to Shreveport period!

Not really JR. :)

ut-austin/OU are renting Jerry's world for 100$. :) Double-ditto for Texas Tech/texas a&m. 100$. :) However lol, Jerry keeps 100% of the parking (upwards of 40$ per vehicle) and 100% of the concessions AND a certain % (not known lol) of the actual ticket sales. :)
