Southern's band director asked for kickbacks

Jackson State terminated O'Neil Sanford without due process. Try again.
Under different circumstances. Right now you have a claim that 3 years ago that a text message was sent asking for a kickback. That's pretty much it.

southern merely used the other folks as fall guys while protecting Haymer. That's it in a nutshell.

You're right. The Human Jukebox is one of SU most valuable possessions and marketing tools. They will protect it all cost. But Haymer will find a way to screw it up and be forced out some how now that I read more about his past and legal representation .... him and his brother seems like low IQ people (degrees don't make you intelligent).

The Jukebox is STILL growing in popularity which means more money and with more money and popularity comes more problems ... watch and see. And that story from Haymer about the WM scandal just isn't adding up for me.

I am sure the powers that be at JSU and their HR and legal team met before terminating Sanford. Either that or they allowed him to resign. Every job has due process. Don’t mean it takes a long time. But there is a process that coincides with state laws or you will get sued. Didn’t Denise Taylor sue JSU for wrongful termination and win?

What a waste of keystrokes! Every job DOESN'T have due process! You're clueless, Goggle is free, use it! :(

And if it does not you get sued. My company going through it right now and we have it. Lol. Right to work states have lawsuits as well. Fire a 60 old woman just cause and see what happens. I work in a high position in Corporate America and we get training every year on this type crap by our legal team. Hell since I am in Cali our CT based company can’t even give random drug tests because of Cali Law.

Due process is a review of the situation. And discussion with the employee. Not just walk in and say you fired. You use google and see how many lawsuits have been won. Ask JSU why they had to pay Coach Taylor or SU paying Spivery or LaFluer.

Even McCabe went through due process before Sessions and Trump just fired his ass. If you got a job that don’t have due process. I suggest you find another job. And they will be eventually sued and lose once they fire the wrong person without process.

In Haymer’s case it is deemed an ethics violation. Most places make you sign an agreement when are hired letting you know that can be immediate termination. And you normally get a training on Ethics, Bribery etc yearly and sign off you understand that is one way be let go once they investigate (due process) and find you guilty.

Once again, a waste of keystrokes. JSU hasn't paid Taylor a penny, JSU appealed. Donald Trump signed an executive order giving several government agencies authority to terminate employees on the spot, no due process required.

Trump could have fired McCabe on the spot if he had wanted to. Sessions only waited for McCabe's effective retirement date, as instructed by Trump, to terminate him, the wait was not for due process! You can lead a man to a keyboard, but you can't make him think. Once again, Google is free, use it!

True dat! I know of two co-workers who were fired on the spot, no due process! One for surfing the internet and the other for a profanity laced outburst! People act with some civility on these jobs! *sheesh*

Some folks clearly don’t understand due process. And a good attorney will win the majority of those cases.

McCabe also has recourse as well. He also had his due process when he spoke to the folks investigating his situation. Then it was recommend he be fired. So even Trump and Sessions let the process go through. Even us in the military have due process. If your job can just walk in and fire you for surfing the internet and you had not be warned/ documented and if it was not porn/ some sexual predator type site. You have a good case. A good lawyer like Dennis Sweet would take that companies money. Lol.

Never seen any company with any sense allow a manager to fire anyone with consulting HR first. If you work for that kind of company. Then you might need to rethink your employment. At least suspend the employee until it’s met on for termination. That’s what most good companies do. You can dispute that all you want. Google up all the wrongful termination lawsuits won in this country. Made a many attorneys rich.

I know us as BOOM fans love to make fun of our most hated rival but this shit bad for yall SU

We good. The band will continue on. All of us are expendable at the work place. Haymer is no different. Another capable SU alum will step in if it comes to that. If not, he will continue his work as BD and move on from this. No one person is bigger than SU band or makes SU band. Those kids will continue to put in work.

Haymer seems kinda fruity! Remind me of a baby dancing! lol

Funny, I have heard his name a lot but this first time I have ever actually seen a picture or video of Haymer. I had a totally different image in my head lol.

Last week, a report surfaced that a lawsuit was filed against Southern University, its band director, Nathan Haymer, and several other campus officials.

SU’s Board of Supervisors, the SU Foundation, Tracie Woods, M. Christopher Brown, II, and Ronyelle Richard were also named as defendants within the case.

Octagon Media sued the university, asking to be reimbursed after having to pay out refunds when the band allegedly failed to appear at key events.

The lawsuit specifically states that Miranda White, owner of Octagon Media, claimed she was approached by Nathan Haymer in regards to organizing an event for the purpose of improving Southern’s reputation and luring in prospect students.

Under the impression that Haymer had the authority to contractually bind Southern University with this event, White immediately began planning, in which she arranged for food, beverages, promotional items, ushers, advertising, venues, traffic control, campus police, EMS, and equipment.

2,306 tickets were sold for the ‘Jukefest’, which was to be held on November 5, 2015.

White claimed that on October 25, 2015, ten days before the event was to occur, Nathan Haymer sent text messages expressing his desires to be compensated ten percent of any proceeds from the event.

In addition, he allegedly requested that she hide this percentage charge from her business.

After denying his requests, Haymer immediately began to back out of the already organized ‘Jukefest’, and for the first time admitted that he really had no authority to hold Southern University to the contractual terms. He also posted cancellation notices on social media.

When asked about the accusations made against him, Haymer was very cooperative, stating that due to personal problems, he was not in attendance, but the band and his assistants were at the event.

He also mentioned that this lawsuit is only backlash from a certain woman pursuing interest in him, but the feelings were not mutual, which is why this 2015 incident is now re-emerging in 2018.

He also denied ever sending the text messages to White. He then concluded his statement saying, “When you’re in a high profile position, you’ll be targeted, and I’m being targeted behind personal stuff … I want the students to know that I’m a transparent and stand up guy. I’m very blunt. I’m very hard on my students. I’m not the nicest all the time, but I am not dishonest. We were supposed to make at best $6000 at the fundraiser, so if I’m asking for 10 percent, text messages I didn’t send, that’s $600 dollars.”
