Sitting In Starbucks While Black

At the end of the day, this dumbassery is SQUARELY at the feet of the manager who called the police. The police are obligated to respond to a request for police service, and must follow the law in doing this. I don't see why Starbucks as a whole should suffer in this (unless there is something I don't know about where there is policy or standard procedure across their stores that they respond to this in this manner). This, to me, is more about the individual that happens to work for Starbucks, than Starbucks itself as a company. That said, I can't stand their coffee.....Too expensive, and way over the top.

Kevin Hart said the same and Black Twitter went AFTER him.

I think what irks folks is they see OTHERS do the same and NO ONE bothers them or calls the cops. Yet cops get called here.

I still don't get the love affair with SB from the jump...

I don't know if its a love affair but they are so convenient to the point that "getting Starbucks " is almost synonymous with getting coffee, period. There's one in my building and the people that Ive grown to know, like working there. As a company, they tend to treat their employees well.

This IS America. Racism isn't endemic to Starbucks so if folks aren't willing to go all the way, then they are just blowing smoke. This includes (among other things) patronizing businesses uptown dallas/midtown Houston and the like that have a proven record of discriminating against Black folks. Now how many black folks, frats/sororities gonna stop hosting events or eating/drinking there?

I wonder how long this hashtag activism act is gonna last compared to the other ones that went nowhere and died within 15 minutes? Black folks love to cry and holla about how white folks, the police and everybody else treats them, but don't use all that emotion to build anything. Just cry and play victim while white folks just keep on keeping on.

The CEO did a good job dealing with this issue.

The police did their job

The manager did not handle the situation and is no longer working at that Starbucks
The ceo is full of shit. He did just enough not to offend white folk. He did not call it what it was...racial profiling. Robin gave him every opportunity to say what it was and he refused. Y'all let these folk off too easy.

Let me preface my comment by saying this.....THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE POLICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED TO EVEN BE INVOLVED IN THIS!!!! This was not a matter for the police, PERIOD!!!

With that said, once they WERE called, the officers' hands were tied. A property owner (or person with legitimate controlling interest, such as a business manager) has the right to ask any person to leave their property for ANY reason, even NO reason. If they ask you to leave, and you refuse, especially after the police show up and ask you to leave, it's trespassing. I don't think these cops wanted to make that arrest, but had no options.

Let me ask you this (crude example, but good nonetheless)......If a person showed up at your house with a friend, and you decide that you don't want them there. They tell you that they aren't leaving and plop down on your couch. No argument, no fight, but just plop down on your couch and refuse to leave your house. You call the police, and they show up and say, "Well they didn't do anything wrong, so there's nothing we can do", and leave without taking any action to get this person out of your house. You would be on the first thing smoking to file a complaint on the officer (after you whip the person on the couch's arse.....lol)

I can't cosign this, where in the video did the officers tell the men they were trespassing and had to leave? Hell even in that video with the homeless man at McDonald's the officer told both the homeless guy and the one who bought the food they were trespassing.
And your example doesn't hold water, we already know a person can be arrested for trespassing on private property. Hell people even "justifiably" get shot for it.
The videos I've seen say both men didn't say a word to the cops, act belligerent or anything. So the cops could've just escorted them out. But I know you're going to tell me we don't know what the manager told them, but aren't cops trained to assess a situation when they arrive on the scene and act accordingly?

Admittedly, I have only skimmed the video, and read the articles related to this, so I honestly don't personally know exactly who said what to whom. Yes, cops are trained to assess a situation and act accordingly. And you are right, they could have been "escorted out", but if they ain't moving, there is no escorting. At the end of the day, ain't no way you gonna convince me that the officers are the blame for THIS incident......THIS IS NOT BLANKET APPROVAL FOR ALL COPS' ACTIONS.

This is from the witness who filmed the video.
_____________
Lauren, who asked that her last name not be used, shot video of the two men being arrested at the Starbucks just before 5 p.m. on April 12. She said the incident began after the men asked to use the bathroom and were told that it was only available for paying customers, which Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross later confirmed.

After the men had been "quietly hanging out, chatting and waiting for their friend," she said officers entered the restaurant and asked the two men to leave, saying that they would be trespassing if they did not leave.

As always, I'm telling y'all things that I KNOW about how the law works, even when I don't necessarily personally agree with it. Whether you choose to receive what I say as truth or pass it off as being a cop apologist is up to you. I still maintain that these guys should not have been arrested, but the onus for that is on the manager, not the cops in this situation. The example I gave is valid. Starbucks IS private property.

Black ppl love wanting to be accepted by white folks and other folks.

If you still buying Starbucks after this known incident shame on you

We are never going back into slavery. The "book" doesn't call for us to go back into slavery. It calls for us to be free after 400 years in the land of bondage. Those 400 years are almost up! First slaves arrived in 1619. Do the math.

What we must do it prepare to exit this place before God's judgment hits. Hence "come out of her my people". But I'm not going to pretend anyone reads their bible. Oh well....

Black people are in bondage all over the world. Does this just apply to America?
