This ain't New York.
You build a toll road leading into Jackson and it would be a real ghost town within a year. Every major business downtown to North Jackson would move right across the county line.

Exactly. The State of MS would not allow it anyway. They wouldn't back Jackson doing that isht. New York is a different animal all together. So are alot of those states who have toll roads on certain stretches of major highways. You are right. That would give Rankin and Madison county just more ammunition to get more folks to move to their counties.

i was gonna buy a house in JR's family hood, I only saw one for sale sign and to me it was the ugliest house in the area

Unfortunately some of those folks moved to Madison. I will Dowell Taylor for example. He used to live in Woodhaven back in the 80s. He know lives in Madison. LOL. Some of the older folks did stay like my folks and neighbors. But I did see some of my friends parents move to Clinton, Byram and Madison anyway. Those houses are starting to come available because some of the even older folks who moved there in the late 70s to North Jackson are either dying off are having to move out to go stay with their children wherever they may be.

Nobody is working with nobody enough. I am sure there are some pockets where both work together trying to help the state and even just whites or just blacks themselves trying to right the ship. But not enough across the board to make a difference. You look at Texas. They got necks too. But them mofos are about the money. Houston has an openly Lesbian Mayor. San Antonio has the dynamic Castro Brother and the other is in congress and Dallas and Austin both have different style mayors. Then you have crazy arse Rick Perry. But they all come together to make something happen for the state or their respective cities. Rick Perry was in California telling businesses to bring their arse to Texas and then went to Illinois and told them the same thing. Is that idiot Gov in Ms doing the same? Or does he want to keep Ms segregated from the rest of the country. That's how dumb them white folks in Ms are. The rest of the South is laughing at their arses. Well some of the South. But you get my point. You couldn't pay a neck from Texas to move to Ms even if they raised the confederate flag and said every day was a holiday for Dixie. LOL. That is the perception the state has allowed folks to have.

this is the old dirty south JR we fight over school mascots, some schools are just now in 2013 having intergrated proms
did Texas have a Civil rights movement? we STILL celebrate Medgar Evers, old white men in MS are just now being brought to trail for killing black people during that era. The Entire era stays fresh on everybody's mind subconsciously and not so subconsciously the war is still being fought in MS instead of progressing together many would choose to perish as enemies
sad, I know

83 this is the most funniest thread we've had on here in a long time :lmao:

Yep............ I'm just having fun now.

This election is over.
Lumumba has won and everybody know it. All the reporters was with him in front of City Hall yesterday asking questions about how he was going to overcome his "negative image" with his non-supporters. They was basically talking to him like he was the Mayor already.

Even the news commentators are saying the next vote is just a formality.
My turn....Election shocker........WLBT TV3 Commentary.

those places are different because the people are different.

You make excellent points, but they don't jibe with your earlier stance regarding the Mayoral race. It appears that jackson's issues are a symptom of being in a state like Mississippi, that does not value it's capital city. This is beyond any single Mayoral race, so why co-sign this crazy idea that this last election was some sort of death knell? What was it about Lee that makes you think he could fight against what you just posted?

I am not saying Lee was the end all be all. But I am not impressed by Lamumba either. The change agent is going to have to be able to appease both sides to help Jackson succeed. Really what Jackson needs is a Bill Clinton like Mayor who can get both black and whites in the state not just the city to change their thinking. As far as cosigning the last election as a death knell. I don't see it that way. I just see it as a continuance of what I consider a death knell many years ago. Jackson didn't just die. It was dead or dying a long time ago and every so often it makes back from the dead to just being on life support with some faint optimism.

I understand BUT the next generation of homebuyers are what, entering their 30s
take into consideration the allure of Atlanta,Madison, etc etc what will become of those houses
if there is no market for them...you know....the surviving home owners will do the dreaded RENT house and there goes your
childhood hood JR, gone with the wind, sad if you think about it

Yep that is true. It makes you wonder what will happen to those used to be really nice North Jackson neighborhoods when all those older black owners are no longer with us. Since most of their kids are living in other states, either they will rent the house or sell the house. Either way it probably means those hoods get worse.

OR
you could move back, teach at the JSU engineering school
and be a shining example in your old neighborhood.

LOL. I wouldn't mind teaching. But I am not going back to school to get a Doctorate that it would require to teach at JSU. I will leave the teaching at JSU to my HS Classmate Dr. Dre err Dr. Orey. We all live through him on that front. LOL.

Hell the old neighborhood don't have many kids to be a shining example too. My old 70s hood on MW Alexander Drive or the current one since 78 in Norwood. LOL. Folks are gone. I see more of my homies outside of Jackson than I do when I come home. They are everywhere but there. Even the ones who are JSU grads. I only can visit Jstate83 and few other folks I know when I come home now. If they piss JState83 off and he moves, I will have to find another spot to stop and have a couple of drinks. My frat ain't going no where though. LOL.

LOL @ not seeing them in Cali. They are there. Just so damn spread out on the left coast.

Don't know where I am going to retire. Maybe when Cali gets so broke they need folks to come move there I will go there. LOL. Probably somewhere like Austin/Hill Country Texas. Although Savannah Ga is on my list as well.

I am too poor for you to move next door to Tony. LOL. I need a couple of promotions in the next 10-15 years to move into a Tony neighborhood.

how could he win you over 83?

I look at him the same exact way I looked at Frank Melton.
I liked Frank as a business man and activest in Jackson. As a politician, Lumumba is just like Frank Melton. As soon as the big time politics of wheeling and dealing with the real state power brokers start, it will be a matter of time before his camp explodes.

I been looking at these people in Jackson cross eyed since he won Ward 2. Have not seen him do a thing on the city council................. NADA............. except fall into the Blunston-Stokes camp of nothingness.

He prove me wrong, he prove me wrong.
I'm a big boy who don't mind saying I WAS WRONG.

Man................. You know I like my spot. Big trees, nice neighborhood, great neighbors.
But this shat at the top is getting frustrating.

Moving around the metro area, unless your kids are in school I don't see the big difference. You still shop in the same places, eat at the same restaurants, work at the same place. Taxes used to be a sticking point but as these smaller towns have grown that disparity has gone down. Outside of schools - which needs to be a real focus of this administration - there's not a huge difference between living in the nicer areas in Jackson and those in the so-called suburbs.

This is a funny thread and this might be funny to some but it has some truth to it lol. Jackson will need a white mayor to bridge the gap, bottom line. Like JR said he has to be a Bill Clinton type mayor. One that will show up to the Holiday tourney or a Lanier-Provine game. Visit the hoods in South and West Jackson and actually talk to the people. Make Jackson look better by building from within. The houses out west are super old and the people there are not maintaining them, its the same out South. Drive down McDowell Road, most of the house are abandoned, total 180 since 2000. I've noticed that some parts of Jackson shifts, that may be a reason why the streets always need paving. 55 S headed to N.O. should be 6 lanes at least until the Terry exit. Same way with 220, the 3 main interstates that run through West and South Jxn are outdated. More people live in that area than in Pearl, Richland and Florence yet they 6 lane highways running through 20 and Hwy 49 smh. They are building up that area right before our eyes, yet Jackson is fumbling over small projects like building a movie theater lol.

 I agree Frat. What really bothers me is looking at North Ms below Memphis. It is off the chain up there. Everywhere but my hometown is getting some things. Not that I do not want to see other areas of the state to grow, because I do. I just want the capital city be NICE. So much potential.

The clarion reported that Southaven has a population of over 50,000. They benefited from Memphis and the casinos offering jobs to the mid south area. North Mississippi is on it lol

You can't move government across the street to county line road. Folks talk about Jackson but every morning there are traffic jams two miles long coming into Jackson from all sides.
Put up a toll, they'll pay it and still talk about Jackson while they're dropping that quarter or fifty cents into the machine.
These folks know where their bread is buttered. I don't see folks trying to get into Madison in droves round 7:30 or 8am.

Yeah it helps to border a large city like Memphis. I hope jr isn't comparing their situation to Jackson.
