And they say Houston isn't worthy enough

alot of those alumni won't come out for odd reasons...for example, when SU had a decent basketball team, their fans still stayed at home despite their "large" alumni base.

when the announcement is made, we'll find out how large some of these alums are in a few months.

Isn't this the football SCG and not the basketball tourney?

Still most cities don't have two places for something like that. You also have U of H's stadium. If it were in Jackson, you would only have Memorial. Houston is good because they have several football field available.

..and I THOUGHT Reliant had Astroturf.

You also have Rice Stadium (could probably accomodate the fans and bands a lil better than UH could, but you know how 'they' are.

And Reliant Stadium uses natural grass. They can take up portions of the field and replace them if ned be using trays. But they try to do that as little as possible.

Well the best arena to have it that's already proven that fans come out and not just SWAC fans if some of you can think out the box, is New Orleans hands down.

...well some people have CHILDREN...who are high school age who might want to go to this event and see the battle of the bands. That could add up to an average of 1000 dollars per household (not including hotels and food) when if it were in Jackson, most people could just drive in and bring the family.

You can use this same logic for any location you decide to have this event at.

Dude, don't ever use the word logic again. What fool is gonna fly from Alabama or AR or LA or TX to MS? and if you do fly from MS from Houston, it's 80 dollars round trip and not 227. So NO, you can't use the same logic. Even Atlanta is only 5-6 hours from Jackson and then you have Memphis that is less than three hours away.

Dallas would be a good city for the SCG similar to Houston. Even though Dallas is far for the Bama schools, it isn't much different than B'ham is for the Texas schools. I believe the SCG would draw a very good crowd from many people who would not be affiliated with the teams playing. There is a large number SWAC and HBCU alums in the DFW area. And since Dallas doesn't have but 1 major HBCU game a year, the DFW peeps would be happy to see more of our schools playing here. Imagine a GSU-J State game in Cowboys Stadium. Also, it could be good recruiting exposure for high schoolers in the area. A good number of DFW high school athletes may consider our schools versus the SFA's, Sam Houston's, TX A&M-Kingsville, etc.

Also, what about Shreveport? It is "somewhat" centrally located. From all the SCG attendance, Independence Stadium can hold our crowds. Also, the riverwalk downtown can attract out of town'ers.

Now, if the SCG was in Jackson, Pine Bluff would only have a 3 hour drive to Jackson (if that's what this whole topic is about since Blu Panther is trying to "cloak and dagger" us now).

Bluedog,

I would support New Orleans and the Superdome. But I am not sure the SWAC could make any serious money in New Orleans once you figure in the cost of rental fees for the Dome and the price of hotel rental for fans attending the Game and Events.

Honestly, I do not believe the SWAC Championship Game will be leaving Birmingham anytime soon, especially after signing a Title Sponsorship deal with Chrysler Danzler along with talks of a new domed stadium. It would be difficult to imagine that a corporation would sign such a deal without having some assurance that they game is reasonably stable and has a home.

If anything, the Houston Sports Authority would have a better chance in pushing for a NCAA Division I AA Bowl Tie-in with the SWAC Champion and now possibly the Atlantic 10 (12) Conference as well as the SWAC Basketball Tournament Championship, especially if the Texas member institutions can provide another strong year in basketball this season.

I don't think it'll be leaving either but just some food for thought, of cousre no matter where it goes (if it does) cost will have to be worked out by our new commish.

But understanding that if it moves it to get larger attendance and if either the SD or Reliant is packed your going to make money, the goal should be to make it as big as the BC other than that there is really no reason to move it.

Now I like that idea. I would like to see the conference champion rewarded with a televised (MBC?) game to close out the season.

We had one remember? But being able to get one with the Atlantic 10 (12) would be poetic justice as far as i'm concern.

Bluedog,

We had one remember?

I remember. But like many things in line and I sure you could a test to. Things often times go in cycles. It is my understanding that it looks like the Bowl game for Division I AA SWAC is picking interest from the Houston Sports Authority and also by several conference administrators in the Atlantic 10 (12) Conference.

I know you are aware that even the MEAC Commissioner Harris is interested in a SWAC vs. MEAC Bowl Game if the money "right".

It will be interesting to follow the Division I AA Play-off Bid announcement this season. Because the MEAC is in serious position to gain two bids without Florida A & M University for the first time. I am not sure how this will affect the direction of the MEAC.

Also considering the announcement with Chrysler Danzer Title Sponsorship for the SWAC Championship Game and inaugural SIAC Championship game in 2004. Will the MEAC move in that direction? Especially considering the NCCU and WSSU serious consideration to move from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I AA/Division I.

But in my opinion it will be interesting to follow and see it play itself out.

But being able to get one with the Atlantic 10 (12) would be poetic justice as far as i'm concern.

Smile!!
