Poll: Should The SWAC Place Restrictions On Non-Conference Football Schedules?

Why do you think yall are entitled money from the Bayou Classic? It's a game against two rivals. Not a play-off nor championship game. Do people say ask for money for the Magic City, Turkey Day or the Capital Classic? I have always said we need to first win and schedule quality OOC on a consistent basis then think about playoffs: we as a conference aren't in any position to compete in the FCS Division 1 playoffs point blank, not in the current state. When schools can't beat D2 schools and we are supposedly are D-1, losing OOC games week end and week out how in the hell can many worry about playoffs and when i say play quality OOC games i'm not talking about FAMU, TNSU, etc. The SWAC is already an HBCU Conference and we play each other and that's enough HBCU games there. Many want to play the big boys so schedule them for your OOC games and see can you beat them during the regular season then think playoffs until then, the wishful thinking and half stepping is mute.

S/N I would love to see my G-Men whip up on the APPALACHIAN ST's, DELAWARE's etc but we have to regroup to get the teams more competitive. I'm not for getting my school embarrassed on national tv just to say we're in the playoffs.

When did I say that?
Please go back, find where I said that, and repost it for me please.

You the one that keep talking about it being a money maker and all that. I said it is a money maker for SU and GRAM. I also said the BC don't do anything for no other team in this conference besides Gram and SU. And to repeat, I never said DON'T PLAY THE GAME. All I suggested was MOVE THESE 2 GAMES BACK ONE WEEK SO THAT THE ENTIRE CONFERENCE, ALL 10 TEAMS, WILL BE PLAYOFF ELIGIBLE. Whats wrong with that. Will the BC and TDC die because of one week?

You still got the BC and TDC, (your money), still got a conference champ crowned in time for bids, and now all ten teams have a chance to play extra games in the playoffs. Whats wrong with that set-up. :noidea:

The weekend the Bayou Classic is played was a business move. They know more people come home during the holidays. Business not personal. I'm sure the Turkey Day Classic reap the benefits on playing on Thanksgiving Day while many are in town also.

BTW i replied the way i did because of this statement:

As for it being a money maker, that is true..........FOR SU and GRAM. The rest of us don't get squat out of the BC.

That's why you can't see things like i see it. It's a money maker plus it gives the two teams, universities, bands etc big exposure.

You honestly think the NCAA is gonna make 100 plus FCS teams alter their football season just for 1 SWAC game and 2 teams?..........................C'Mon man.

Oh well.
Onward and forward with the old outdated model.
We'll be having this same old, "why we falling behind" discussion 10 years from now.

Frat, SU and GSU can't afford to move that game. It is as simple as that. The BC is already not packing the house like it used too after Katrina. A move a week earlier would permanently do it in. I was at SU when we moved that game up a week. It was not the same. This was when folks loved SWAC ball. All that needs to happen is the SCG get canned and the other 7 schools can get an at large bid if you are good enough. But that also means, mofos better start scheduling folks in the regular season to get ranked.

I know we have beaten this horse a lot. But it is like this. Most folks in our conference can care less about the playoffs. Bottom line. Our fans aint even beyotching about it. Even the average JSU fan aint. They just want to see JSU win. But unless you are a hardcore JSU football fan, which you are, the rest don't care. We get on these boards and think we actually represent the masses who go the ball games and we don't. Our product has not evolved and even if we moved the BC, TDC and got the SWAC champ eligible. You still would only have 100 folks travel to see our teams play SD State or some other PWC in the playoffs. Hell most would not show up at a home game. I am just being real. How many folks you honestly think would come to see JSU play a first round playoff game in Memorial against a team that will not bring any fans, no band, no nothing. You would get maybe 20K and the weather better be right. We got a lot of education to do with our fan base and some infrastructure issues we need to address before we can just say scrap the way things are. Our Presidents may not be sports folks......but they aint stupid. They know those playoffs mean us losing money. The MEAC folks don't have a large fan base anyway except maybe FAMU. The rest of those schools fans don't care either. Just those on that board. I bet none of those schools take a huge following on the road for the playoffs. Poor teams sent out there with nobody rooting for them. We got to get our fanbases to embrace playing other than HBCUs somehow. Don't know what the answer is. But just participating in the playoffs aint the end all be all. You better start playing those teams in the regular season otherwise you just setting yourself up for an annual beatdown when you get there. You can play the little sisters of the poor and just our conference members and actually think you can win one of those games.

20,000 for a playoff game in Memorial is more than 8 teams in the conference get for SWAC GAMES at home. We got between 14,000 and 20,000 for Boise State, Tennessee State, and Arkansas State when we hosted those 1st round playoff games so that is damm good as for attendance.

But just like always, I'm just having fun as usual comparing my opinion with others on this subject, trying to understand the lack of spirit to go against these guys in the playoffs. With all this in mind, on a serious note, people need to stop woofin' about how good they are or how great their football teams are. We just playing just to play, beating up on each other and lesser sub-D2 teams, just to have a reason to party from Friday night to Sunday morning.

As for playing those teams in the regular season. I say again. The TOP 20 ARE NOT GOING TO TOUCH A SWAC TEAM BECAUSE THEY HAVE EVERYTHING TO LOSE, PLAYOFF WISE, AND NOTHING TO GAIN. We lose to them, BIG DEAL. It don't mean crap to us and a SWAC title. They lose to us, A NON-PLAYOFF CONFERENCE, they lose points when it come time for seeds to go out.

And to think, people actually come on here talking about forming a HBCU SUPER-CONFERENCE at the FBS level. That is the funniest shat ever considering how serious people get when talking about even TRYING to compete on the FCS level.

The real problem is the only schools winning that FCS title are way bigger than our schools and they have more money. If we stop paying our football coaches 200K plus at HBCUs and pay them the same as the PWCs are doing their white coaches. We would have a little more money. But that is another subject.

TPs HBCU superconference idea aint a bad one. We just don't have smart enough people running our schools to execute something like that. We would need years of studying the move and how it would affect our entire athletic departments and what the pros vs cons are before doing that kind of thing. But let's be real. Even the FCS schools that win the title all want to be FBS if they can. FCS is still not equal. We have the fans in the stands. But JSU or SU don't have App State money. Some of those schools have 15-20K plus students and they manage their budgets better than we do. We got more issues than just on the field issues.

And those schools will play you in the regular season. Because they aint scared of us. You just will have to go play them at their place first. I doubt any of our ADs have had the nerve to call an App State, Ga Southern, or others. The only incident I saw was Delaware not wanting to play Del State in a home and home. I am also sure we definitely can get the SLC schools to sign a home and home. They have in the past. I wish we would renew our game with NW LA State. Their fans seemed to be into that game at the time. It helped us get ranked when we did beat them. I think we were 5-5 against them in the 10 games we played them.

All the SWAC has to do is cut the SCG. It's not rocket science.

So true, So true...

lets be real man.
In 2011, the only schools the BC helps is GRAM and SU. I don't see one thing JSU or anybody else gains from this game on a personal or recruiting level.

I say do away with the SCG, move the BC and Turkey Day Classics up to the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, and let the regular season decide the Championship. That way the entire conference becomes uniformed and on the same page, playoff eligible, and everybody can keep their precious year end games.

What other schools are they suppose to help, it's their game and they can do with it what they want.

Now if they do away with the SCG all the other teams could be eligible for a at large bid. It has nothing to do with gcu,su or asu.

Whats wrong with moving the BC and Turkey Day Classic to the week before Thanksgiving and make the entire conference eligible for the playoffs. When other schools talk about playoffs, 7 out of 10, we whinning. When someone suggest 3 schools move one game up one week, ya'll act like the world would end if you do. :noidea:

It's all a business and that date is where they maximize their effort for their game. 7 out of 10 schools arn't talking about the playoffs either.

What 100 plus schools?
They only take 20 into the playoffs. 2010 would have been the perfect time for them to start the playoffs a week later since they added 4 additional teams and moved the Championship game back a few weeks too.

Who's to say we are falling behind, because of the playoffs.......Please

Well it is what it is.... But we on this board will never leave it alone....

So true, So true......

Hell no one in the SWAC would get pass the first round right now anyway, no one. Why have your team get on national tv to get the hell beat out of them? That's just like a midget getting in a fight with someone 7'2", not smart. Hell we first need to worry about scheduling quality OOC teams, winning on a consistent basis then thinking about a damn playoffs. Crawling before walking is a natural process and seems to work. Jumping in the fire will only embarrass you when you are not prepared and lack fire gear. Damn what the FCS and other conferences thinks, we need to do things in steps and the correct way so ultimately the SWAC will reemerge as a stronger conference. The MEAC maybe playing in the playoffs but they are getting their asses handed to them will the white folks are giving them pats on the heads and back because the MEAC seems to thrive off of validation. Until they start winning their OOC on a regular basis they will continue to get drove in the playoffs, they have a case of trying to walk before crawling while wearing shades of naiveness. :read:

+1. If all have watched REAL football lately, NOT ONE SWAC team over the last 20 years would compete OOC w/ ANY other D-I OOC team (esp these localers-SLC squads). The records speak for themselves and also in the current OOC scheduling (Concordia, NAIA, D-II lol).

Pantho, Grambling competed with a playoff bound McNeese squad in 2003 and we didn't even win the SWAC that year. Our 2001 team beat a nationally ranked Portland State squad and a SLC squad on the road and I would put up our 2005 team against any SLC team that same year. I totally disagree with that statement.

man I know the drill. I here just discussing this worn out fake topic and you here acting like anybody that say "playoffs" is a crimminal or something. Lets just do this. Whenever anyone bring up the subject of competition in this ISOLATED half azz conference, just close the thread cause we all know people want the same old lame "gameplan" we been riding the last 15 years to continue. Don't ever try to bring up new ideas because that is a death penalty offense.

Let never complain about the dumb stuff this conference do and not complain when the rest of FCS take a shat on us as for as respect. I KNOW.........."ya'll don't need YT's validation". Every team in this conference has fallen to sub-par levels and the overwhelming train of delousional thought is we not that far behind. WE LIGHT YEARS BEHIND. We get our azz kicked to sleep by D2's on the regular and can't even beat low level FCS programs.

This is why I say JSU need to go ahead and cancel the CCC, move our home game back to Thanksgiving day, and do our own thing. Damm the good of the entire conference.

Thats what everybody want so let it go man.
Always talking about the Lou. Techs, Lou Monroes, and Troys of the world, about how sorry they are, and none of our teams can bust a grape against them. But as long as the fans are happy, actually playing GOOD FOOTBALL against GOOD COMPETION ain't even worth discussing.

You act like JSU's football team is the exception, they wouldn't win in the playoffs right now, don't allow your pride to blind you bruh. All the programs in the SWAC need restructuring in order to be competitive outside the conference against quality teams. If things are done decent and in order things would get much better.

Again.
Show me where I said that...........PLEASE. :lecture:

I think when I said EVERY TEAM, I thought anyone reading would know I included JSU in that. We have fallen below par also, beating up on nothing but SWAC teams, following this isolated conference. I said JSU need to say fugg the "conference" and get our money on just like ya'll. Why should we not move our home game with Alcorn back to Thanksgiving day.............The day before Black Friday.

Just like I said though, anybody even mentions playoffs, ya'll act like it is a death penalty offense. Lets not have another thread started on this fake subject. BRING ON CORCEDIA. Forget the rest cause OOC games don't mean nothing wether we win or lose. We only playing for a SWAC championship and a loss to say TENN. STATE, in JSU case, don't mean nada. and :smh:

That is what the "fans" want right? :smh:

The fans don't want to see no Concordia, that's laziness on the AD's part. Hell, I know in Louisiana we could easily schedule D1 Southeastern Louisiana University and beat up on them just like Concordia. Would feel more better to me. If moving yall game to Thansgiving brings in more money that's a plus because lets be real money is needed.

The very fact that you were able to recall onesies and twosies solidifies my point. As a whole, from top to bottom, D-II conference play-wise over the last 20yrs. :) I prolly shouldn've said last 20 because in the first 5-8 yrs of the last 20, the play was very competitive but was indeed going downhill fast. The last 10 emphasize what I allude to. What's the SWAC's OOC record in the last 10 yrs vs D-I?

I'm with you on the last 5 years maybe only because we don't attempt to see if we can compete for various reasons. And, of course, I would remember every time Grambling faced anyone because I saw it with my own two eyes. My point underlining point is that we can compete if we allow ourselves to do so. Concordia doesn't allow that. I would not have shown up to the game last year if it was Homecoming and I may not show up this year. When you devalue your self worth, you tend to live up to it. We have to put rules in place to prevent laziness on behalf of our administrators. We should never ever ever play sub-D2 competition. We should never play more than one D2 team a year in football off of straight principle. We needs to apply these same concepts to all sports (basketball, baseball, etc) where possible.

JSU only got in the play-offs because SU was playing in the Bayou Classic. The FCS didn't like that the SWAC's Champion wasn't sent but couldn't do nothing about it. I say just cut out the SCG so people can stop whining and maybe someone from the SWAC will get to play in the playoffs.

No, we went because we were ranked and qualified. The playoffs and 1-AA football loved them some JSU in the 80s and 90s. We won 9 games in 1997. No way they would have left us out!

I agree with your post but especially the bolded... I will add this exception tho. In Mississippi's case, as everyone knows, all 3 of Mississippi's FCS schools are in the same conference so we don't have that option of playing non-SWAC FCS comp. For Valley, DSU is a natural rival if they ever decide to just make it a annual thing despite DSU being D-II. The only schools D-I schools within reasonable distance that I could see us playing regularly are some of the same schools that Grambling play, TSU, schools like UT-Martin, etc.

SU would have been easily in the playoffs over yall in 97. JSU got in the playoffs due to SU playing in the Bayou Classic, plain and simple.

So basically you happy with just playing football just to have a team on campus. Just playing for a SWAC championship is good enough. People need to wake up and realize the GOOD FCS , (top 20), teams are not going to play us because they have ZERO to gain and EVERYTHING to lose in playing us since we are not a playoff participating conference.

This is not true. Where you get that from? They don't play us becasue we don't call them or don't answer the phone when they call. App State is playing NCA&T this year. A&T sucks. Those teams would love to play us but we are too scared to play them so we play MS State and other 1-A programs for excusable losses. PERIOD!

SU would have been easily in the playoffs over yall in 97. JSU got in the playoffs due to SU playing in the Bayou Classic, plain and simple.

SU would have easily gone since they would have got the autobid but I do believe we were ranked higher than them in 1997. It has happened TWICE in the MEAC where the champ got a lower seed in the playoffs than the second team. In 1997, we would have both gone but they would not have left JSU out.

Why send a team to the playoffs to play one or two games when we can play FORTY out of conference games in the regular season. That makes no sense to me. It's like the MEAC begging for respect for scheduling the sorriest schools they can find.

Southern was 11-1 in 1997, only loss was to FAMU but you think JSU was ranked higher? lmao

TPs HBCU superconference idea aint a bad one. We just don't have smart enough people running our schools to execute something like that. We would need years of studying the move and how it would affect our entire athletic departments and what the pros vs cons are before doing that kind of thing. But let's be real. .

I know we are getting off topic here but my idea really has nothing to do with money execpt for having the MINIMUM amount of money required to be 1-A in all sports. The premise of my idea is that 1-A football rules college athletics. 1-A athletes are better than 1-AA athletes and better coaches. We just need to find a way to get the athletes and the coaches. The money will come.
