Poll: Should The SWAC Place Restrictions On Non-Conference Football Schedules?

All the SWAC has to do is cut the SCG. It's not rocket science.
Still don't solve the problem of a divided conference.
Some are playoff eligible and others are not if games are played the weeked after Thanksgiving. The playoff committee will still have the same problem with the SWAC. The SWAC Championship not decided before BIDS go out. We would still be playing, as a conference, regular season games during the 1st round of the FCS playoffs.

lets be real man.
In 2011, the only schools the BC helps is GRAM and SU. I don't see one thing JSU or anybody else gains from this game on a personal or recruiting level.

I say do away with the SCG, move the BC and Turkey Day Classics up to the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, and let the regular season decide the Championship. That way the entire conference becomes uniformed and on the same page, playoff eligible, and everybody can keep their precious year end games.

Everyone knows GSU and SU are in the SWAC, these teams are showcased on that weekend so it helps the two schools and the SWAC as far as keeping the name out there. Since the SWAC gave up its automatic berth into the playoffs and created a championship game in 1999, the conference has never had a team get an at-large bid and a big culprit was because financial reasons — the playoffs don’t make much cash and created a championship game in 1999 to generate money. Teams that do not make it to the championship can accept an at-large bid but how likely is that. Just kill the SCG so people will stop crying. The Bayou Classic isn't moving from Thanksgiving weekend anytime soon especially during this economic mess and budget cuts.

The problem with the SWAC and the FCS will never be resolved because the FCS feels the SWAC said f-ck them when the SWAC gave up its automatic berth into the playoffs and created a championship game, also the FCS didn't like it when the SWAC had to send a non-champion to the playoffs. I don't care how mad they are, they aren't pumping money into anyone's athletic budgets in the SWAC. The Athletic Department is a business, it's not personal. When budgets get cut the FCS doesn't cough up money to help so they can stay mad for eternity. The FCS knew what they were doing all along, they intentionally moved the FCS playoffs in line with the Bayou Classic, those folks don't want HBCU's to be in the spotlight. Some realize but many don't.

So would I be right in saying that u want to see SWAC schools against the best competition possible and play in the playoffs.... What do u do with the Bayou Classic Turkey Day Classic and the Capital City Classic

I personally don't see the sense in us going to the playoffs if we went to a 7-game format and scheduled well. I do believe in playing the best competition there is out there.... Our range should be good D2's, 1-AA teams, and non-BCS 1-A teams.

Thats exactly what the IDIOTS at the top, making the decisions did. And that clown Commish, getting on TV gleefully shouting "NO--End of discussion" to reporters when asked at the Pre-season SWAC tour will the SWAC take measures to get back into the playoffs didn't make things any better.

I don't think so. We didn't have automatic bids for a while and we still went to the playoffs. They were very fair to JSU...as recently as 1997 when we didn't win the SWAC but still went to the playoffs. Having the 9 game mandate, playing 1-A teams, playing NAIA teams, etc...is more of a slap in the face. We have the opportunity to schedule 40 out of conference 1-AA games in a 7-game format system. As stated by our commish, he and the ADs only look at a 7-game format as a way to get 1-A payouts. That is what is killing us and that is what killed the 7 game format.

So basically you happy with just playing football just to have a team on campus. Just playing for a SWAC championship is good enough. People need to wake up and realize the GOOD FCS , (top 20), teams are not going to play us because they have ZERO to gain and EVERYTHING to lose in playing us since we are not a playoff participating conference.

JSU only got in the play-offs because SU was playing in the Bayou Classic. The FCS didn't like that the SWAC's Champion wasn't sent but couldn't do nothing about it. I say just cut out the SCG so people can stop whining and maybe someone from the SWAC will get to play in the playoffs.

Whats wrong with moving the BC and Turkey Day Classic to the week before Thanksgiving and make the entire conference eligible for the playoffs. When other schools talk about playoffs, 7 out of 10, we whinning. When someone suggest 3 schools move one game up one week, ya'll act like the world would end if you do. :noidea:

The only one's that are not eligible for the playoff is GSU and SU. Those two choose to play the Bayou Classic rather than the playoffs so everyone should be happy, the conference wouldn't be divided because everyone is getting what they want.

Are the "other schools" pushing to "make the entire conference eligible for the playoffs" or is it just a few folks on a website doing the pushing??

For business purposes, tradition, air time the Bayou Classic has to be played on Thanksgiving weekend. It's one of the few games in the world that people actually know when it's going to be played on a year to year bases. If the FCS actually wanted and cared if the SWAC was apart of the FCS playoffs they could easily move the playoffs the week afterwards, it's very easy for them. Have you actually heard the cuts that GSU and SU took and yall want the Bayou Classic to be moved on a weekend that people are home for the holidays spending money for a playoffs that doesn't pay jack sh!t. It's business, not personal. Now i can see if the economy and the budget cuts weren't affecting the schools so much but until the schools are financially stable to sacrifice a move i don't see it happening anytime soon. The FCS did sh!t out of spite, it's clear as a blue sky. Actually by GSU and SU playing in the Bayou Classic that gives others to get in the spotlight/playoffs.

I just asked why can't those 2 games be moved up one week so that the entire conference would be playoff eligible. I never said DON'T PLAY THE GAME. With the playoffs -vs- BC/Turkey Day, it is a one sided affair with ya'll. No compromise. We whinning and locked out of the playoffs because they not gonna just throw bids at a non-participating conference.

What is so scary about having a conference where all 10 teams are eligible?

The playoffs doesn't start until Thanksgiving "Weekend". How ironic. I know the brackets are set up the week before but HBCU's are financially capable in many things, that's why Classic's were invented, it's all about money and you need it to survive.

You honestly think the NCAA is gonna make 100 plus FCS teams alter their football season just for 1 SWAC game and 2 teams?..........................C'Mon man.

Oh well.
Onward and forward with the old outdated model.
We'll be having this same old, "why we falling behind" discussion 10 years from now.

Playoff bids go out the SUNDAY NIGHT before Thanksgiving DAY.
That is the weekend that every other FCS football conference in the nation except the SWAC wraps up their regular season.

How you that be making someone alter their season. Pushing the playoffs a week after Thanksgiving would be easy for them and no one would have to alter their season schedule because no one knows the brackets until the week before Thanksgiving but i'm sure they won't due to tv slots etc. It's a business. I don't need validation from the white man but i see some feel they do, cut the SCG so some can get validation.

Most of the other schools are more financially sound than SWAC schools also. They don't have to play Classics etc. It's all about money and making sure your Athletic Dept stays afloat. 6 and 7 million dollar budgets are a joke to many of those schools but that is where the SWAC is working with, its not enough so schools have to do things to survive.

OK.
So FCS is going to alter their plans and apease 2 teams in one conference playing in 1 game.
And spare me the "white mans validation" speach. This is about going into the pool of 16 and playing for a true National Championship. That YT validation crap is just as dated as not playing a team in 2011 because they didn't play us back in the day. :smh:

Oh well................Like I said.
Onward and forward with the old outdated SWAC model. Win our lucky 7 or whatever we playing and play for a SWAC title........Nothing else.

I urge all who wants to go to the playoffs to write their Presidents and the SWAC Office to cancel the SCG. The SWAC Office won't make GSU and SU move the Bayou Classic because they know it's a money maker for the institutions. Now later on down the road it's going to happen probably because of the future plans of Grambling concerning sports but right now it's not going to happen. Hell no one in the SWAC would get pass the first round right now anyway, no one. Why have your team get on national tv to get the hell beat out of them? That's just like a midget getting in a fight with someone 7'2", not smart. Hell we first need to worry about scheduling quality OOC teams, winning on a consistent basis then thinking about a damn playoffs. Crawling before walking is a natural process and seems to work. Jumping in the fire will only embarrass you when you are not prepared and lack fire gear. Damn what the FCS and other conferences thinks, we need to do things in steps and the correct way so ultimately the SWAC will reemerge as a stronger conference. The MEAC maybe playing in the playoffs but they are getting their asses handed to them will the white folks are giving them pats on the heads and back because the MEAC seems to thrive off of validation. Until they start winning their OOC on a regular basis they will continue to get drove in the playoffs, they have a case of trying to walk before crawling while wearing shades of naiveness. :read:

Whats the point on writing if the games are not going to be moved. As for it being a money maker, that is true..........FOR SU and GRAM. The rest of us don't get squat out of the BC.

And people here wondering out loud about why our teams are playing the corncedias of the world. This conference is scared to death of good teams so scheduling these same quality OOC teams ain't gonna mean nothing according to you cause they are the same teams that will beat the snot out of all of un in the playoffs according to you.

So if it make no sense to get on TV in the playoffs against them, what sense do it make to play them in the regular season if the result will be the same. :noidea:

Why do you think yall are entitled money from the Bayou Classic? It's a game against two rivals. Not a play-off nor championship game. Do people say ask for money for the Magic City, Turkey Day or the Capital Classic? I have always said we need to first win and schedule quality OOC on a consistent basis then think about playoffs: we as a conference aren't in any position to compete in the FCS Division 1 playoffs point blank, not in the current state. When schools can't beat D2 schools and we are supposedly are D-1, losing OOC games week end and week out how in the hell can many worry about playoffs and when i say play quality OOC games i'm not talking about FAMU, TNSU, etc. The SWAC is already an HBCU Conference and we play each other and that's enough HBCU games there. Many want to play the big boys so schedule them for your OOC games and see can you beat them during the regular season then think playoffs until then, the wishful thinking and half stepping is mute.

S/N I would love to see my G-Men whip up on the APPALACHIAN ST's, DELAWARE's etc but we have to regroup to get the teams more competitive. I'm not for getting my school embarrassed on national tv just to say we're in the playoffs.
