Poll: Should The SWAC Place Restrictions On Non-Conference Football Schedules?

Texas State draws way more than 9000 people for a home game....

But here is my other question... Outside of Grambling Southern and Jackson State.... Why should I play any other SWAC school
1st: 12,900............ranked #23 in 2010 FCS attendance.

2nd....Not my problem.
For the 32 time in 33 years, SWAC fans showed up and took the FCS Attendance title again so no other conference can say they have the fan support we do and that is AFTER a drop-off by SWAC Schools. As for the other SWAC schools not named JSU, SU, or Gram, you got to ask them. :noidea:

I agree with MH and Fiyah and I voted NO.

Better SWAC play doesn't come with strength of schedule, it comes with coaches coaching and players playing with more discipline.

I too agree with both Fiyah and Mighty Hornet (especially.....) and voted no. As long as we follow the proper game mandate, be it 7 or 9 games, that's what should really matter. All non-conference games should be decided by the school.

And J94 you're so correct.....our coaches have to KNOW what they are doing and properly teach these guys football, be sure they have a good understanding and comprehension of the game, maintain good weight, size, and conditioning. The coaches should be required to attend at least one coach/football camp for further competency (in my opinion). And the players need to definitely play with discipline and control......and we need some better refs in our conference also.

We need to get some of these schools out of the SWAC with no standards. Just like we need to fire the AD's with no standards.

Didn't the conference apr go up this year close to its normal rating before expansion?

Sent from my Samsung Captivate.

I think that if the quality of play in the SWAC gets better then the overall problem will fix itself... When I watch a thursday night SWAC game on espn i see the same bad things that have been mention on this board before.. Fat Lineman.... Piss Poor Quarterbacks....Sloppy WR's... Then some offensive coordinators that couldn't score on a pee wee team...

You get a SWAC OC in a grind it out low scoring game and his nutts draw up into his chest... But they all love it when its a shoot - out where neither defense is worth a damn

I voted yes. Makes no sense for AD's to schedule Concordia. I'm sure that the late switch of Alcorn as our opponent in the PCC was the major factor. That's the only blemish on our schedule. This better be the last season this happens.

You know good an hell well that this concordia shit aint goin nowhere. Concordia and Langston is the swac and some of its coaches, Bailout Ho! Makes me sick. U dont get better playing 8th graders if u have a 9th grade team. PLAY SOMEBODY DAMMIT!

Well, it's the truth. If it is true that PV and Tex. Southern couldn't schedule enough FCS schools or quality D-2 schools, your AD should've been called out for it like we called out Braddy for scheduling sorry azz Concordia.

No where do you see that.....
Just like when we had the 7 game mandate, who was the main school scheduling non-conference/conference games against certain schools from the opposite division to make their budget.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I think schools should be fined for scheduling NAIA teams and for not scheduling 11 games. That would be a start.

The NCAA says that each conference can only mandate their own conference schools schedule and no school can be forced to play more than their own conference games.

I would have three mandates

(1) No more than 1 DII school
(2) no NAIA schools
(3) no traveling to DII schools

The NCAA says that each conference can only mandate their own conference schools schedule and no school can be forced to play more than their own conference games.

Well, that must have recently changed becasue the MEAC fines a school for having more than one D2 team. I guess that STILL follows the NCAA rule becasue they can still scheudule who they want. They just have to pay the fine.

I hope you are not trying to call JSU out for this. The MAIN school doing that was Grambling. Yes, JSU played conference teams for OOC games which I never agreed with but those were mutually beneficial games and not necessarity to balance a budget. We were very consistent in that we never played the Tx schools unless we had to but we did play UAPB and Grambling when they were not on our rotation. That was not to help our budget becasue it's not like they bring us any fans but when we had to return a trip, it did help us out in transporting the team and the band. But honestly, the only game that helps our budget is SU but I don't thind we have ever played them and the game didn't count in the standings.

Most of this stuff depends on the AD. If Culberson could do nothing else, he could make a football schedule and he didn't consult the HC when making it. Braddy was not good at scheduling. He would entertain 1-A offers, he was hell bent on specific 1-A and classic payouts and he didn't mind playing sub-D1 teams. I recall in 2003, Culberson had us playing NCA&T, FAMU, NWState and TNState in non-conference games. Braddy never came close to that.

According to some, all people want is an "easy win" to pad their record.
Conference wide standards left a long time ago. :smh:
what about holding your own school to a standard? We always seem to want to blame the SWAC, as if the SWAC office has soooo much power to supersede the will of the schools

Go find the JSU Schedule thread and see what I wrote.
All this talk of playing Delta State, (a D2 that is always in the NC hunt), or FAMU and our AD schedule Corcedia after all the time he had. People going off about that here. Log onto the JSU blog, find that story and read the comments under it. Nobody here gives a damm about playing Corcedia.

Me personally, I refuse to pay $30 to see that shat. Planning to go to Shreveport with Alcorn25 to watch Gram and Alcorn go at it Labor day weekend. I'll catch back up with JSU in Memphis.

As for blamming the SWAC office, I do blame the SWAC office for not getting every school in this conference on the same page. If we had people with guts and vision, they would have went to the Presidents, showed them a plan, told them why it's good for the entire conference and sold it to them. Instread, we got weak ducks just hucklebucking to whatever the Presidents do in order to keep welfare going to some of the schools in this conference. No playoffs, isolation, NO "togetherness" at all. Name one other conference that will give up participating in the NCAA's because they too scared to bring schools in line so that we can have it all. Playoffs, BC, Turkey day Classic, etc.

Folks must understand that Conferences is run not by the Commissioner, but the SWAC Council of Presidents. They are the conferences Board of Directors. Sharp is just running day-to-day operations. At the end of the day it falls on the individuals schools. If our presidents want it they could make it happen. But what would be the incentive?

The MEAC has a system where one of the conference tie-breakers is a point system where you get like 6 pts for a FBS win, 4 point for a FCS win and 1 for a D2 win, -1 for a D2 loss, and nothing for a NAIA game. Which is the reason why Bethune was the automatic berth in the playoffs:

2010 MEAC Tiebreaker Points Standings
BCU: 1 win vs. NC Central, 1 win vs. SSU, 1 win vs. Edward Waters (9 points).
SC State: 1 win vs. MVSU, 1 win vs. Benedict, 1 loss vs. Georgia Tech (5 points).
FAMU: 1 win vs. SSU, 1 loss vs. Miami, 1 loss vs. Tenn. State (4 points)

With us unless we factor it in for three-way ties in divisional races, not sure how we could make it stick.

This is what i'm going to do, i'm going to gather all SWAC Presidents, AD's and the SWAC Office email addy's post all at once in a thread and maybe all of us can email and actually voice our opinions, if they get bombarded with enough emails they will listen.

So would I be right in saying that u want to see SWAC schools against the best competition possible and play in the playoffs.... What do u do with the Bayou Classic Turkey Day Classic and the Capital City Classic

The Bayou Classic isn't stopping the SWAC. The SWAC Championship is. When will you all realize that? The Bayou Classic is only stopping GSU and SU. Hell be thankful that's the only game on tv in the SWAC where people actually recognize the conference. Without it no one would know what a SWAC was.

Still play them but move them up one week...........BEFORE Thanksgiving just like the Alcorn/JSU CCC.

They may not have stopped teams in the past from going to the playoffs but it is now. The SWAC should have been stepped into mordern times and done something about making the ENTIRE CIONFERENCE PLAYOFF Eligible. They should have taken a hard line a long time ago. They didn't, stuck with the old outdated status quo, and look at us now in the relm of FCS football.

FCS done stopped waiting on the SWAC to decide their championship. There are just entirely too many schools to pick from. They will not hold playoff spots open and hope they pick the right ELIGIBLE SWAC team to go to the playoffs. Those days are gone for good.

lets be real man.
In 2011, the only schools the BC helps is GRAM and SU. I don't see one thing JSU or anybody else gains from this game on a personal or recruiting level.

I say do away with the SCG, move the BC and Turkey Day Classics up to the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, and let the regular season decide the Championship. That way the entire conference becomes uniformed and on the same page, playoff eligible, and everybody can keep their precious year end games.
