Poll: Should The SWAC Place Restrictions On Non-Conference Football Schedules?

That school was Prairie View.

Bullsyht...it was the so-call Big 3 complaining about not able to schedule 4 OOC games when we played 7 and got us this 9 game mandate crap back.

Schools like PV and Texas Southern should have no problems playing local FCS opponents due to the many schools in Texas and Louisiana they have to choose from. There's no excuse for them at all.

They someone go again putting PV in there mouth about this and not saying anything about their own scheduling.

What does that matter? In 1999, we had two HBCU's in the top 10...TNState at #1 and Southern at #6. There are more things to fight for than a playoff seed. What if SU had played a schedule to get them in that #1 spot? We would STILL have articles floating around asking who was the real 1-AA champ in 1999. Though we are far removed from 1999, we do have goals to strive for. We control our own destiny and things would probably get better for us if we stop looking at things by way of a 1-AA playoff system. There are many ways to skin a cat.

Since we're so far removed from 1999, why bring it up. This is 2011 we're talking about and you want to try to remember the glory days.

Well, it's the truth. If it is true that PV and Tex. Southern couldn't schedule enough FCS schools or quality D-2 schools, your AD should've been called out for it like we called out Braddy for scheduling sorry azz Concordia.

I agree with MH and Fiyah and I voted NO.

Better SWAC play doesn't come with strength of schedule, it comes with coaches coaching and players playing with more discipline.

Who complained because it damm sure was not JSU.
Ya'll complained when we didn't put ya'll on our schedule that ONE year. We could have played Central michigan for our 11th game but that would have meant playing 10 games in a row with no breaks and Central Michigan wanted JSU to pay for the BOOMS travel out of the measly $360,000 they offered.

We even asked ALCORN to move our game with them to Thanksgiving Day that year to create another open date for us. They said no and everybody here was like He!! yeah ALCORN. That's when posters here was like do you and we will do JSU. Ain't our place to help none of ya anymore.

That was the only time JSU didn't have 11 games and that was by choice...........Not because we could not find anybody.

1.) The Big 3 scheduling is a little different from the rest of you all scheduling. Grambling has a history of getting 1-A playmates and trips around the country. While JSU and SU do not subscribe to that, we have tried to secure home dates and only get classics when other teams move them. The rest of ya'll with no home base or drawing power don't have these issues. You can schedule anyone. I don't think any of the Big 3 had a problem with scheduling but when it came to the finer details ($$$), we had more options to weigh. Also, when it came to JSU complaining, it was NOT because we could not fill our schedule. This recent mess is Braddy-Comegy BS. Back then, Hughes was complaining about AAMU backdooring into the SCG. The 7-game format got Hughes fired.

2.) I don't call 1999 the glory years but I mention it becasue it shows what could happen even if we don't participate in a meaningless playoff. We have many goals to strive for.

Exactly, but they travel across 5-10 states without their band.

That can only improve with money and better visibility. I think we have great coaches but some of us expect them to draw blood from a turnip.

I think schools should be fined for scheduling NAIA teams and for not scheduling 11 games. That would be a start.

This conference and the current staffers in place making these decisions don't possess the wherewithall to enforce that policy. :smug: Neat idea, like most other conferences (FBSlike) have already implemented, but I don't foresee the capability for that occurring w/in the current SWAC.

SWAC folks got a lot of nerves.. U cant make anybody play you.... Tried to shame the MEAC into joining you in the Legacy Bowl.... They didnt bite.... A good FCS PWC does not see a SWAC School as a cash cow to bring to town.... SWAC schools dont have enough funds to make the come to u and play... Some of the top level d2 schools look down on the SWAC.... So u cant get mad at the AD's for workin wit what they have

As for the Legacy Bowl, that is ESPN so know the facts before you speak. The MEAC either came on board or not. No skin off our backs.

The AD's and Presidents got us where we are now with all this FCS isolation crap. No playoffs, trying to schedule damm near all HBCU schedules back when the SCG started, letting half the conference do one thing and the other half do another. Scheduling D2's and club teams like Corcedia, Allen, Lincoln, and Bugtussle because the "so-called" fans would rather have a guranteed win than a good game.

As for a "Good PWC FCS" team not seeing us as a cash cow to bring to town, that is the biggest peice of bullshat you have typed yet. The REASON the GOOD PWC FCS teams don't schedule us is because if WE beat them, they lose spots in the playoff committee eye with a loss. SWAC team lose to them, we don't lose anything in reguard to our goal.........THE SCG. We ain't playing for a playoff birth, they are and I can't blame them in not putting us on the schedule like they used to do.

Yadda, Yadda, Yadda.

I don't see how SU, Gram, and JSU had any problems scheduling folks. What us SU folks heard was folks in the SWAC were complaining when their money games dropped off the schedule when we were in the 7 game format. I always thought 8 games would be a compromise. Remember the problem was folks having 10 games or even 9 games instead of 11. Don't think SU ever had that issue even when we played teams that were not all that. We could still fill our schedule.

Folks wanted those extra home games so they can get revenue and didn't want to do home and home with folks. So some ADs got lazy and just ended up with all these sad teams. We got too big to do a return trip somewhere. So the only folks who would agree to that were the little guys. So we end up saving money by not having to travel and pay a team 50K to come take an arse whipping for the most part. I never liked that kind of scheduling. When we had the 9 game mandate the first time....that lead to some of that thinking.

I remember back in the early 2000's, mofo's on here was actually like FUGG YT if they agreed to a home and home but wanted us to come to their house first. Mofo's would not give an inch and would let the deal go down the tubes because of that. People got ig-nant and self-centered. Now some mofo's are crying because they can't get games scheduled in this conference.

Not a concern for us.
We got Tennessee State and Mississippi State for 2012 as our OOC games.

I remember that like it was yesterday.
Mofo's were crying about certain schools had to be on their schedule to make ends meet. They were clowning like kids that were scared to leave the house and go somewhere on their own without mommy and daddy holding their hand.

As for Texas State, they would play us and sign a contract with us for the same reason Northwestern Louisana did. A good home and home series. We ain't scared to sign a 4 year home and home and go to their place first. NEVER HAVE BEEN.
Another reason is Texas State draws only about 9,000 people to their games in Texas so they can't be too high on talking about people wanting to see them or selling tickets.

Come Again.

The problem: A deflating number of out-of-conference games being played against lower classification teams — Division II and NAIA. (See TheDerisoReport.com’s examination of this trend here.)

The additional dates weren’t being used to upsell the conference, Sharp said. A succession of speedbump games took the wind out of efforts to move the league forward.

“When I was at Grambling, people were always calling you wanting to play,†Sharp said. “Grambling doesn’t have to solicit games, but there are those schools who do. For those who don’t have the name of a Grambling or Jackson State or Southern, it hurts their ability to get those games. When you went to the 7-game mandate, you went with the hopes they would play up, to get some revenue games. It just never worked out that way.â€

By the way during the 12 game years many didn't schedule 12 teams, not saying any names.:read:

Texas State draws way more than 9000 people for a home game....

But here is my other question... Outside of Grambling Southern and Jackson State.... Why should I play any other SWAC school

Texas has way more teams than Louisiana, the Texas schools should never have scheduling. The point is our AD's aren't scheduling early. They do things at the last minute. The SWAC office needs to make the AD's pay a fee when they don't fill the schedules and put cup cake teams on the schedule.
