Yes, you have a few here and a few there in other races. When you are in Rome, you do what the Romans do. I would estimate that less then 10% of African Americans own pets. I know several white couples that my wife and I are friends with that have about 2 to 3 dogs and no kids. I say the pets are their kids. Those people love some damn dogs and that is fact. It's sad when humans value the life of an animal over the life of a human. I love dogs and I'm an animal lover but that crap ain't worth a year in prison and all of this other bullshat. They're acting like he's Derrick Todd Lee.

You don't have an argument with me. I'm not a dog lover. I especially hate pit bulls. I've said many times here on the board that the only good pit bull is a dead pit bull.

The point is, black folks spend big time money on their dogs. They let them live in the house, kiss them, buy them frufru clothes for them and everything else. Not in the same numbers as white America, but they do it.

PsychoJag, These people don't give a shii about those dogs. PETA just got their Fundraising arm ignited. Some Federal Prosecutor is making a career. The news media got a story. The OJ verdict can now be revenged.

If these same damn dogs would have slaughtered a kid at Vick's house in Atlanta, the same people would be saying "how could this idiot have such a brutal animal around little kids. These dogs are liked in the hip hop culture and they are just mean and brutal animals. He should be jailed for making such a dumb decision."

We all need to recognize, that at the end of the day no matter how much money you have you are still a Black Man in American. If you expose yourself to prosecution, they are coming every time. There are many in white America that hate the fact these guys make this kind of money. TO was criticized all of last year for missing practice do to an injury by all media outlets. This soccer guy who makes millions missed game after game. Did you hear a single word. I know there are some on this board that doesn't believe racism exist anymore just because they don't see dogs being release on people, and water hoses spreeing water at negros, or negors being hung from trees. But, it is happening in back offices every day.

Who cares if more white people like dogs than black people? Who cares if people treat dogs like kids? All that has nothing to do with Mike Vick and his cohorts facing dogfighting charges. Mike Vick and his buddies threw their lives away over some dogs. That's the sad part.

Folks can scream that Goodell and the feds are trying to bring him down and the media is to blame for blowing this case up. Or this is revenge for the O.J. case. But when it comes down to it, only Mike Vick is responsible for himself facing a prison sentence. If Mike Vick does not make these bad decisions he would be preparing to put on his Falcons' jersey instead of an orange jumpsuit.

Kendrick my statements were to CD about how we as a race and most races view dogs differently from white people. It was in no way giving Vick a free pass for what he did. He broke the law and he will have to face the consequences. But it is funny how Scooter Libby will not spend time in jail for what amounts to treason and Vick will.

Don't be upset. We all know at the end of the day it's Mike Vick to blame. My basic principle is if the hood homies aren't elevating their life and can't respect my goals and dreams to keep BS from around me, I don't need them.

I hope this man learns a lesson and is better for it. To hell with football also. Life is too short.

It's a fair statement to say that some (I don't know all) white people care about dogs more than black people(I knew family who did treat their dogs like kids).

Yes, it's probably unfair that Scooter Libby will not go to jail for alleged treason and Mike has to go to jail over dogfighting. However, those are two different cases which don't correlate. Bottom line, Vick is in a pickle and there is nothing he or anyone else can do about it.

There's nothing else to be said at this point except that we hope all people, not athletes, black people, white people, Asians or just hispanic people learn from this.

Life is full of injustices, but again what Mary Winkler did, Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones, Hitler or anyone else who committed a crime has nothing to do with what Mike Vick did. I know it's hard for some people to grasp the concept that folks can face more jail time for killing dogs than killing people, but that's one of the laws of the land.

Is it right? Well I think this society has in some respect, lost the concept of what right and wrong is. I don't think we will ever fully regain the idea of a balanced society.

But this Vick case just should be only a blueprint of what happens when you make bad choices. Don't put yourself in a postion to be locked up. Bottom line.

You are right. But I don't know about it being viewed as a lesser crime in your estimation.

Even though people still mistake me for a high school student, I've learned not to get emotionally invested in these type issues. I wonder if people on both sides would be wanting the laws to be changes because "it's only dogs" or hammer down on dogfighting if Mike Vick was not involved?

There are tons of other issues that us Average Joe's should be worried about than whether Mike Vick is going to jail over dogfighting.

If it was Peyton Manning or any other white person, I would feel the same way.

If people want the laws to change then I would suggest writing up petitions, protesting to get the laws changed or run for office.

What sickens me most is that all the stuff you just named ("Drowning, slamming and shooting") happened to your fore fathers, but I don't hear you or anyone else protesting slavery or any other malicious crime against black people.

I know that all that stuff happened to us during slavery. Just like the holocost to the Jewish people and the eradication of Native Americans. But none of those horrible acts of attempted genocide has anything to do with Mike Vick being indicted for dogfighting.

Like I said before, life is not fair. But you can't use Rush Limbaugh and Brett Favre as crutches to make a case why it's wrong that Vick has to serve time in jail for dogfighting.

No one would give a darn if it was just the three other guys who were indicted. You would not be bringing up slavery, inequalities between races and Brett Favre and Rush Limbaugh if Mike Vick was not involved. Be real.

Do I believe that the justice system is grossly unequal and racism still exists? Yes, but I will not use past transgressions to support a person or a cause I don't deem as worthy like you do. I'm not going to ask that black people rally around Mike Vick because he's indicted for dogfighting.

Where was this outcry when folks who don't play in the NFL or are in a higher tax bracket than the majority of the world charged with these crimes. Why does it take a man who has everything and then does something stupid for us to want to do something about it?

Why should we stick out necks out to defend someone who made bad decisions?

I hope after Vick gets out of jail that everything turns out well for him and his family, but I can't make excuses for what he did.

Tell that to Nino Brown or any other drug dealer. Don't underestimate a person just by the color of their skin. I think he should be punished but not serve a year in prison. Vick made the decision to associate himself with these people, who were doing this crime, so he has to take blame for having this done in his own house.

I agree with you for the most part but you scare me a little... You make statements like you have made good decisions all your life. All of us have done some things that we regret but d@mn lets put it into perspective the punishment doesn?t fit the crime. Are you a republican or real young (19-23) or preachers kid or a combination of all? I'm not asking the question to attack your character but just to try and understand your thought process. Once again, I'm not saying that Mike Vick or anyone else shouldn't be punished but I am saying that the punishment should fit the crime and that if he was white this bs would have never made it to a court.

1. I've made a lot of bad choices in my 24 years on this planet(People still think I look like I'm in high school when they first meet me).
2. Maybe the punishment does not fit the crime to you and others, but it's the law. Laws can be changed, but who do we want to help by changing the law? How does the law change benefit society?
3.You don't know how many white folks are in jail over the same thing. Some people, black and white, have actually gotten a worse sentence than Vick--even with a plea deal.

Bottom line is that if you or me or someone else was in the same position as Vick, PETA would not be protesting and 200 people would not be rallying in our support. But the law will be on out butts though.

the thing that has many black folk up in arms is how eerily similar this is to other so-called "statement" cases made at the expense of minorities on the short end of a verdict.

Kendrick, I hate to be the bearer of the blatantly obvious, but the reality is that Vick may not ever step on the girdiron (ANY gridiron) as a player again. Heck, he may not be able to do anything even remotely associated with football.

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen too man white athletes or officials on the wrong end of "statement" legal cases in the last 3 or 4 decades...

Lemme give you an example:


Pat Lazear was an All - Met Football selection here in the DC/Metro area, as well as a consensus Parade All-American...This clown, along with 3 other teammates, were convicted of armed robbery for sticking up a smoothie king in Bethesda...This case was in the news all of 2 or 3 days...The kids at WVA right now getting ready to start...just gets a slap on the wrist...

Lemme ask you, would the media have turned a blind eye to it if it would've been a high profile black athlete?


I agree with you wholeheartedly that brothas gotta be accountable for their actions...That still don't change the fact that the devisiveness of race is still present in our society in spades and sports is one of the most blatant places where it manifests itself.

Being a dog lover, and a person who's owned dogs, and will own dogs again, it's more than just "they're dogs, or human life is valued more than a dog" thing to me. Hey, I understand dog fighting, and the ramifications of a losing dog, so just kill the dog, and get it over with. There's no need to hang a dog for losing a fight, and when the dog doesn't die from hanging, then you have to drown it, or electrocute it, and get your laugh on while watching those animals struggling to die.....how sick is that??????? Hell, the dog dayum near died in the fight, and that's not good enough, you have to torture it some more, and no matter how you shape it, that's some downright sick schit.

There's no law against killing animals, people do it everyday, but there are decent ways in doing so....but to get into torturing an animal is sick, and he should be punished for it, I don't give a phugg if he's white, black, blue, or brown, wrong is wrong no matter the color, and it's a shame that some people just view it as just killing a dog, because what he, and his boys did was a helluva lot more than just kill those animals.

Again, to put a dog down is one thing, and I don't have a problem with that, but when you go the route he did, you dayum right he needs to go to jail.

Just because we're not at the root of something, doesn't make it right.
