Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

Ok, then someone answer me this. We all know that he did wrong. We all think that he should be punished. We all say that "Michael Vick is a criminal". Ok, let's look at it like this. His first offense, doesnt have any priors or run ins with the law. So, why give him the death penalty?

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

Once again people are making these lame excuses for why Vick is facing a year or more in prison for dogfighting.

It's not ESPN's fault.

It's not "the white man's" fault.

It's not Mary Winkler's fault, Rush Limbaugh's or the feds getting revenge for the O.J. verdict.

It's Mike Vick's fault. Even if he never even stroked a dog, he should have never been in a situation where he could face jail time.

You can say all the things about how his friends are selling him out and how the feds are making a big splash by going after Vick and how white people in general want to see another successful black man take the fall.

All those assumptions would have never been brought to the forefront if Mike Vick would have never associated himself with anyone involved in an illegal dogfighting ring.

The sad part is that four black men are going to jail over hurting a fighting dogs. That's worse than what any white person might think or say or believe about us in general.

Nobody is trying to make excuses for anybody. Everybody pretty much agrees that if you did the crime then you should do the time but I think you could agree that killing your husband while he's sleeping or committing treason is worse than dog fighting. Why should they walk???

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

Michael Vick "furked" up...plain and simple, people!!

There is no CONSPIRACY against him by ESPN, CNN, The Weather Channel or any other network. With all the damned money he has, he chose to invest in some ILLEGAL schit, and unfortunately for him, the hoodrat cousins, homeboys, etc. (who had NOTHING to lose) nor a pot to pizz in, or a window to throw it out of, turned on his arse when the jig was up and the ring was uncovered!

What I hope will come out of this situation for high profile BLACK professional athletes in the future, is that while some of them have been placed on a pedestal, there is nothing that says you can't have your azz knocked off that same pedestal if you break the law, and whether or not you are an animal lover, dogfighting is AGAINST THE LAW!!

I guess his homeboys forgot the street code of "stop snitchin" when the cops came a knockin'!! Alot more of them need to leave that street schit alone! If Mike hadn't been trying to maintain his "street cred," he might not be looking at his professional career going down the toilet as I type.

:smh:

Good points. My wife and I were discussing this last night and my hope is that some of these boarderline guys will get their acts together and Vick can be an example for future big stars.

People don't realize how highly favored Vick was. This dude was born fast with a cannon arm. Yes he has to work hard to maintain it but these were all god given talents. He came from nothing to the top of the world. He was one of the faces of the league and was making money hand over fist. He could have made a difference and still can, but he chose to stay in the hood. What does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul. Vick will find this out first hand now.

Exactly and that's another thing that makes me angry. They act like this dude was a troublemaker all his life. People make bad decisions I just hope he's learned from this.

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

While the issues about his prior record (or lack thereof) are true, unfortunately for him, dogfighting carries the kind of hefty punishment that they are enforcing.

Hell, be happy! Without that plea deal, he was looking at 5 plus years in the slammer!

Once again here people....DOGFIGHTING IS A CRIME! We can't offer excuses for it when someone we admire gets involved. Vick nor other professional star athletes are NOT above the law. I'll venture that too many of them think they are, and that's part of the problems we are seeing with some of their deviant behavior these days.

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

Dude, nobody is arguing the fact where a crime was committed or not. We're simply saying why throw the book on his 1st offense. And I'm not buyin into the "He should be happy, cause we've could have done alot worse" theory. As mentioned before on here, murderers, rapists, and others receive far less for their 1st offense.

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

I would believe a "snitch ni99a" if the person snitched on is one is his closest partners, who has all the money, footing all the bills and routinely is there with the "snitch ni99a".

Let's be real here. Do any of you remotely believe Vick didn't do any of this stuff??? We got the millionaire, who buys the house, provides the equipment and funding to run the operation. Been boys with these guys for the longest. Y'all think for one second Vick wasn't right there on many occasions doing the exact same thing his boys were doing???

And as for discrediting them, y'all watch too much TV. This is the real world. What happened in this case happens in a whole lotta cases. Cops/prosecutors put heat on participants, and somebody agrees to tell. Do you actually expect the guys running a top notch illegal dogfigting operation to be squeaky clean. Where y'all from??? Mayberry??? If it were one guy, testifying against the 3 others, you might have a point. But it's the other 3 against Vick. Game. Set. Match. PLEA!!!

BELIEVE!?!?!

Negro, I think he was the NINO BROWN of the whole thing!!!!
He just got caught up dealing with some folks that had no loyalty to him.
Its a fugged up situation.

Do I beleive he is involved....YES
Would I have snitched on him to save myself.... If he was my REAL FRIEND like that.....you already know the answer.

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

In another troubling development for Vick, the Commonwealth's Attorney for Surry County, where Vick allegedly operated his dogfighting business, said last week the evidence revealed in federal court so far has solidified his plans to prosecute Vick on animal cruelty and dogfighting charges. State charges could bring Vick up to 40 years in prison. Surry County Commonwealth's Attorney Gerald Poindexter said he likely would submit his case to a grand jury scheduled to convene Sept. 25.

Committing treason and killing people are worse than killing dogs. I agree, but what I'm having a hard time grasphing here is that why are all of these posters bringing up old cases and comparing facts to relate to the Vick case.

Comparing and contrasting those cases to Vick's is not going to change anything. Is it fair that injustices occur? No, but when something like this happens you can't say ''how come so and so didn't get this much jail time and this guy did'?

It makes it look like people are oversighting what Vick did. It's not about what they did, it's about what just happened.

Another thing I see is that people on both sides of this issue are wanting the charge of dogfighting laws to be lesser. They want Mike Vick banned from the NFL. Where was all this passion when a non-celebrity was faced with these charges? Where was PETA when the average guy was being faced with these similar charges? Why didn't the NAACP support them? Where was their rally?

Mike Vick is just another man who made a bad decision and faces prison time to me. If every other man or woman does not get the same coverage and heated opinions on both sides, why should Vick?

Bruh,
Get off that kick. We all know that sports figures, celebrities, movie stars, entertainers, politicians, etc. get more "coverage" than the "average guy".

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

Like I said, why throw the book on his 1st offense?

beans, they're not throwing the book at him, he's getting off light, compared to what he could recieve. Say you had a dog, and your dog was stolen from you by somebody who ran a dogfighting ring, and your dog was killed by the fighting pitbull. Would you still say let him off light, because it's his first offense?

Not saying that Vick did that, but you better believe one of his boys did, or somebody close to them did trying to make a few bucks, because that's one of the things that happen in the world of dogfighting. Dogs, are bought, and stolen to be killed by dogs that's are trained to fight.

In the words of the old Baretta show, "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time."

Re: Vick reportedly reaches plea agreement

I have a question for some of you.

What year is on the allegations sheet that hit the web a month or so ago?
The indictment says from early 2001 to 2007, they had a gambling operation using the dogfighting enterprise, and it was interestate (from state to state). That made it federal.

You can read the indictment here.

They say they had informants, who owned the dogs who fought Vick nem's dogs. They also place Vick at the scene of the fights.

Me, Nice? Yep. Why? Cause I was raised around dog fighting. Dog fighting is the norm for us N. La country people from my town. I'm sure I can take you there now and some of my friends have pits in their backyards and they are not there to protect their homes either. Would I be pissed because they stole my dog? Yep. Would I want compensation? Yep. Would I say throw the book at him? Nope. But hey, that's just my opinion. Do I like dogs? Yep. Had too many to name. From poodles to shephards to hound dogs. Was mad when my next door neighbor poisoned my dogs (plural) with antifreeze. Did I see PETA outside of his door protesting? Nope. If they would have, would I say throw the book at him? Nope.

See Nice, I was raised on dog fighting and street drag races in Fayette, MS one Saturday a month.

So they found some other witnesses? Ok, cause I know they werent going to just believe these drug dealers that they were giving a break.

NOW, this makes more sense. For a federal prosecutor to base his case on criminals is laughable at best. Two criminals testifying against another criminal CAN easily be discredited based on their history of criminality and dishonesty alone, not to mention other flawed parts of their character.
It doesn't have to be on television. I've seen it in real life court hearings on several occasions.

Are we forgetting the FBI undercover agents?? If they were there(dog fighting)... his goose is cooked.:smh:

This is true. The average guy does not have a $130 million dollar contract.

On the Tom Joyner show this morning one of the attorneys from his legal defense team discussed this matter right here. She said that most likely when Vick takes the plea on Monday it will global taking into consideration any State charges. I guess we'll see Monday. All of this behind some funky azz dogs. I don't think the gambling ref had this much tv time. Dude plead gulity and that was the end. I wouldn't care if Vick would have killed 20 dogs, 10 pigs, a rhino, and a few ants, knowing we have crazy muddafuggin ninjas out here killing girlfriends, wives, and kids. They have ninjas out here doing some fugged up shat but I guess fido is worth more. Ninjas stabbing their kid in the head and they fussing behind some funky azz dogs. Y'all better not ever run over a dog on the street, the FBI and some dude named Felix from PETA will be all over you.

For the umpteenth time, it's primarily overblown when Black athletes are involved.

This White ref jeopardized the reputation of an ENTIRE corporation, the NBA, yet where's that in the headlines compared to a player whose never won a superbowl, much less the NFC championship, who betted on dogs?

What's so dayum great about Michael Vick? kendrick, d-nice, what's so great about Michael Vick? What has he won? NOTHING!!
