TxSU Stadium Question???

After being on the campus, I am curious to know why they didnt just upgrade durley stadium? I honestly feel like we get the short hand of the stick and if we had a stadium on or right near the campus, that it would increase attendance! Just remove the parking lot from the Rec and put it inbetween the HPE and Rec! Secondly, why not use eminent domain to get the land that Cuney homes sit on! It would be ground breaking to see that happen. The orange stadium is cool, do not get me wrong because of the view it provides for the game, but we all know the SWAC is big on bands and it does them no justice inside of that stadium.

Cuney Homes is a result of the Houston Housing Authority in response to federal legislation of the Housing Act of 1937 so it's untouchable via imminent domain.

No offense but I'm not even going to start a discussion on your other question.

I dont think there's even enough space to expand Durley even if we removed the parking lot from the rec center. And besides it's hard enough to find parking on campus. So why take away more options. USC doesn't play it's home games on campus and they get good attendance. When we start winning our attendance will pick up.

USC is right next door to the L.A. Coliseum.

This looks pretty nice tho just add more seats. Looks better then what PV was playing in. I've always wonder why PV and TXSU never had decent stadiums and all these HS do in Texas.

IF they got rid of the track, they could put up an entire new stands surrounding the field or at least the home, visitor and end zone in one end....then they'd just have to relocate track meets....and its not like most of our schools have a huge turnout for track events.

If the track is to be eliminated, they might as well reposition the field in order to build a new stadium with the most possible maximum seating capacity.

TSU relays are probably the highest attended track event of all HBCUs and 2nd highest in Texas.

I'd be willing to bet that it is their largest single athletics revenue producer in terms of ticket sales and sponsorships.

JAG89,

At your convenience, can you put the track around the football field with one end of the track all the way up against that northern tree line?

I'll see what I can do. I'll have to dimension out the existing track and try to recreate it in a more north to south configuration.

We have some major building going on campus now:

A new dormitory that should open Fall 2015.

If any of you are familiar with our campus, this dormitory sits on the land just east of Thurgood Marshall School of Law where the old South Central YMCA sat.

We also got approved funding for a new $60M library. These are our priorities right now.

Yep, I know about both. The state of Texas did its thing again. Appropiated 60 million for us to build a new library, but gave 75 million to UT just to make renovations to theirs.

Here's what I was able to put together for you. Since it was done in basic Google Earth, it's not perfect, but it should be good enough to illustrate how the track field would fit if it was reconfigured more on a north to south alignment.
