The Pac 10 is the best conference in the nation!

sorry SOGGY,
remove USC whooping Penn State like everybody knew they would and Oregon beating Oklahoma State (that was a good game), but the rest of that stuff from the pac 10 amounted to little to nothing.

Wins by lower tier schools playing against other lower tier teams in forgettable bowl games don't impress me. At all.

Plus the fact that the PAC 10's second rated team, Oregon State, lost by four TD's to Penn State.
Oregon lost to Boise State.
California lost to lowly Maryland.

Folks can't ignore those huge losses by three of the top four teams in the PAC 10. This is why folks don't respect the PAC 10, and rightly so. Plus the PAC 10 only had five teams in bowl games while the SEC has eight, so the chances of the SEC losing one or two games out of eight is higher.
If the PAC 10 had been fortunate enough to get eight teams in bowl games, they wouldn't have gone 8-0, but the fact that they only got five teams in bowl games versus eight for the SEC speaks volumes about the quality of the conference.

The Pac 10 teams only get to schedule 3 non-league games to help build up to their six wins, the SEC teams each get four non-league games. The ACC qualified 10 teams for bowls this year, and went 6-3 against the SEC in the regular season. Does that make them the best conference in the country? They have more bowl teams than the SEC, and won 67% of their games against the SEC.

But would the five top tier teams of the ACC stand a chance against the top tier teams of the SEC. No way.

You also failed to mention that Vanderbilt, perhaps the worst of the SEC bowl teams, beat the runnerup ACC champion, Boston College in a bowl game.
An average LSU team just blasted Georgia Tech by 4 TD's in Atlanta.

Naw kid...you can't have it both ways. Miami, Pitt and Maryland were all decent teams during the regular season and all have their fair share of wins against other good teams.

A win is a win.

When you only have 5 bowl teams, how are you the best in the country?

You had a team to go winless, but you are the best.

One team has dominated your conference for the last 10 years, but you are the best?

Truth is the Pac 10 is USC. A team with 1 BCS title, and can't ever get back and win the big game......even with 11 NFL players on defense. The rest of the conference does not strike fear in anyone's heart.

I think this needs to be the BS Post of the Week.

When a conference (like the Pac-10) only plays 3 OOC games during the regular season (and not 4 like most conferences), you are likely to only get 5 teams who are going to be bowl eligible because of the head to head match ups. When the NCAA gave teams the OK to add another game to the regular season schedule the Pac-10 simply added another conference team to the master schedule. They didn't go out to look for other OOC teams.

Now look at the the SEC. They have 7 teams to make it to bowl games. Kentucky is playing E. Carolina. Kentucky???? Are you kidding me? Kentucky finished the season 6-6 with quality wins over teams like Louisville, Norfolk State, W. Kentucky and Middle Tenn State. All of those teams finished the season with losing records. And because of those 4 wins...Kentucky gets to go bowling. Man please!

You will not see Pac-10 schools play OOC games against schools below their division very often.

Fugg the SEC and all the history of that conference. That is all.:D

JR, you're getting history mixed up with the fact that most of those guys playing football in the SEC are African Americans and from the South just like most of us are. They had nothing to do with their schools racial past and present. In short, the better athletes are from the Southeast, irregardless of the school they choose. That's my point.

What's your point? They beat every out of conference team they played this year, but didn't do jack in the SEC. They started off 4-0 until they started SEC play.
Middle Tenn. State beat Maryland. Louisville has been decent for the past few years.
SEC schools deserve to play cupcake teams when they get the opportunity due to the tough conference games.

Look at what Ole Miss is doing to Texas Tech at the half, even after giving up two gift TD's. Texas Tech was ranked number one at one time, but look what the fourth or fifth best team in the SEC is doing to them right now.

Typically, I don't reply to posts like this that just go everywhere instead of focusing on the topic at hand.

You can sit here and try to justify Kentucky going to a bowl game if you want to...

I guess folks can't justify Vanderbilt going to one either at 6-6, but they beat the ACC runnerup a couple of days ago.

Let's just use Kentucky here SOG.

So Kentucky playing one more OOC game than a PAC 10 school is all that got them to a bowl? Let's just say those 4 games were easy wins. How is that any different than beating up on winless UW, sorry Wazzou, Stanford, and ASU. And UCLA was awful this season. So if you win 3 of those 5, and win your 3 OOC games, which are usually against the WAC or MWC, what is so tough about that schedule.....nothing.

Plus there are no formidable road games in the PAC 10. Outside of playing at Autzen, there is no real fear of playing at any PAC 10 stadium. That is why the king can drop a game to Stanford.......at home! As good as USC is, there stadium doesn't strike fear. They don't have rabid fans, and the stadium isn't designed for college football.

You can not judge a conference based on the top half. You have to compare the bottom half. The bottom half of the SEC is leaps and bounds ahead of the bottom half of the PAC 10, Big 12, and Big 10. It is easy to just look at the top 2 or three teams and declare a conference great, but you have to look at the rest of the league too. USC beating Penn State only makes a statement about USC, not the Pac 10 conference as a whole.

The SEC is still the king. And winning 3 straight National titles, plus having multiple national champions of the last 20 years, says alot too. To show you what most thought of the Pac 10 this season, a 1 loss USC wasn't even in the NC game discussion.

Whoa...lets not get of track. My point was regarding your argument about only 5 teams going to bowl games this year. I am saying you can't justify the strength of a conference simply by the number of teams that go to bowl games. Kentucky finished the season with a conference record of 2-6. The other 4 wins came against horrible teams. This 4 wins made UK bowl eligible.

As for your stadium argument, that is just another sign of not knowing about the Pac-10. Autzen is tough. But Husky Stadium (when they have something to cheer for) is one of the toughest places for a visiting team to play in. Reser Stadium (OSU) isn't very big, but is a tough place to play in as well (ask USC).

But hey...we can split hairs all day long. The bottom line is that the Pac-10 is terribly underrated and deserves more credit than it gets. Hell as a matter of fact...West Coast programs (as a whole) don't get the respect they deserve.

Watch Utah beat up on Bama tonight in in the Sugar.

I will give you Husky stadium SOG. They have a great atmosphere. That is why it was so sad for UW to go winless. They are a traditional power, and if they get back to winning, the PAC 10 will benefit greatly. OSU...not trying to hear that. Until you posted it, I didn't know that place had a name. LOL!

PAC 10 and west coast football may be underrated, I can agree with that, but that is because historically they don't have many powerhouse or legendary programs. They have USC, BYU, UW, and on the next tier........the Buffs, UCLA, and then who?

You see Utah is a West coast team. If you need a map I can supply one for you.

Sheesh

There are 2 big ass states between Utah and the "coast" LOL. Over 700 miles between Salt Lake City and the west coast. It's in the west, but it ain't close to being on the coast.
