The Koran...

this is NOT meant to offend ANYONE...

with that caveat qualifying what i am about to post....

Muslims acknowledge the Bible (parts of it) as sacred scripture and a significant part of the Qu'ran contains revelation found in the Bible

Specifically, the story of Joseph, Moses, Abraham, and even the Gospels of Jesus are important to Muslims

Remember that Muslims believe in the same deity as Christians and Jews

Remember that while Isaac "sired" the Hebrews, his older brother Ishmael was the seed from which came forth the Arab people

Hebrews gave us Judaism directly and Christianity indirectly

Abrabs gave us al-Islam

all are universal religions

all believe in the same God

the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, is mentioned more often in the Qu'ran than she is in the Bible and the Qu'ran maintains that was "pure" when she gave birth to Jesus

We acknowledge the same prophets and the same angels (which means that we also acknowledge the fallen angel Satan as the devil)

?good question!

there is more but i want to make sure that my post is well-organized as it is likely to offend and that will not be my intention

*but is along the lines of how Christians look at Jesus and his impact on the relevance and execution of Jewish law

remember what the Bible says he said before he died on the cross...

It is done

Yep, Christ work is done...

re. "Christ's work is done..."

yes, and where one job finishes another starts

that is a big difference between the Bible and the Qu'ran

*but we'll get to that soon

:)

The Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God by whom we are saved for eternity, through faith in Him.

The Koran does not acknowledge the Truth of salvation through Jesus.

Big difference!

I have a question...If most religions or demoninations have their own basic beliefs, then why is there so much controversy about each religion. Can't each and everybody respect each others religions?

Can't each and everybody respect each others religions?
As I've said many times, Christians are Christians because of our relationship with the Lord, not because of a religion or denomination or spiritual click.

Though religions are usually a big turn-off to me, of course I respect them. We all should. The same way we should all respect guns.

I respect religion(s) because it can cause a lot of damage to someone's life, or possibly help them.
Agree with them......no. Respect them......yes.
Because like guns, they can be very powerful.
They can lead you to Hell, or point you in the direction of Heaven.

Remember:
The Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God by whom we are saved for eternity, through faith in Him.

The Koran does not acknowledge the Truth of salvation through Jesus.

from "Islam: Beliefs and Teachings" by Ghulam Sarwar:

A Muslim believes in all of the revealed books which are mentioned in the Qu'ran. They are: the Torah of Moses, the Psalms of David, the Gospel of Jesus, and the Qu'ran revealed to Muhammed. The Qu'ran also mentions the Scripture of Abraham.

How can this be since much of the two are diametrically opposed?

not necessarily...

al-Islam maintains that the aforementioned revelations as they were originally revealed to the prophets are actually quite consistent with one another

al-Islam further maintains that, through years of translating (eg Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, et cetera) and modifying by folks that were not chosen by God like the prophets were chosen, things were changed, added, deleted, embellished thus altering the original divine revelation

also, the fact that virtually all of the accounts were written long years after the prophets left this temporal Earth does not lend itself to much accuracy

to whit, there are some inconsistencies that keep even the most learned and devoted of Christian scholars debating to this very day (for example, in three of the four Gospels, the episode when Jesus threw the money-changers out of the Temple in Jerusalem set the incident during the Passover celebration just before Jesus was brought before Pilate while the fourth mentions it as having happened at the beginning of his ministry)

moreover, ?how many "versions" of the Bible are there? King James, International, Saint Joseph, et al

there is only one Qu'ran

*more on this soon

Not sure what you mean. There are many translations of the Bible, but most made the attempt to translate from the original Hebrew & Aramaic languages that the inspired word of God was written in. Sometimes mistakes were made in the translations, but those were corrected or addendums given in footnotes as the original meanings of words were revisited. So it's as true to the original meaning of God's word as possible.

Is the Qu'ran only available in it's original language? Is nothing lost in the translation to other languages?

The gospel accounts were written by those who walked with Jesus of Nazareth. They were THERE. They WITNESSED what happened. How much more accurate need we be?

here we go again...

folks, i'm not trying to turn this into an exercise in hostility

a question was asked and i am trying to answer it

the Gospels of Jesus contained in the Bible were written AFTER Paul wrote his letters so we are talking about a lapse of at least sixty years before the first gospel was put down on paper

?have you ever played that game where you form a circle of people, whisper something in someone's ear and work your way around the room?

?notice how differently the end product differs from the original?

as for the Qu'ran, because al-Islam is a universal religion there are many of them that are in a local tongue but it is the norm to find the Qu'ran with a "local language" on the left and the original Arabic on the right

The Council of Nicaea (modern day Turkey) assembled by Emperor Constantine in 325 decided the distinctive Christian doctrine of the Trinity and a definitive statement of essential beliefs of the Christian faith, the Nicene Creed. The Council also decided which books would be included in the New Testament and Sunday would be the Sabbath day.

That's not my intent or reaction at all. I hope it didn't sound that way. I'm only trying to understand what you meant. IIRC, the only gospel that was written by a person who didn't walk with Jesus was Luke. And he is noted as a doctor who wrote his book based upon interviews with people who did walk with Jesus.

The Bible is just like the Qu'ran in that it has been translated into a language the readers can understand. It has been updated at times to give a more accurate and understandable translation, which is why you have King James, New King James, New International, etc. Again, I'm not trying to be hostile. Just wanted clarification.

that's the thing: the Qu'ran has never been "updated" - the text is unchanged

there is no King Faisel's edition of the Qu'ran

translating into another tongue is not to be confused with "updating" it as language evolves

reading the Qu'ran in its form now is like reading the Bible in its Dead Sea Scrolls form

*kev, we cool dawg, we cool :D

Jehovah's Witnesses believe their Bible is the only true direct translation of the Bible. They claim that their's is not like the others in that some things have been lost in the different versions.
