Let's face it. The SWAC is swiftly becoming a caricature of its former self. Texas Southern and Jackson State are the latest in a long line of sad stories of wasted potential, wasted money and wasted time. The entire conference has flirted with or straight up "went all the way" with the diseased floozy known as administrative lunacy.
Texas Southern paid Mike Haywood nearly $900,000 for 8 wins over 3 years. Decisions of that level can tank an entire corporation. JSU paid two straight coaches upward of a million bucks over two coaches who were both fired prematurely for bad performance.
This is not an attack on any single institution...its a wakeup call for us all. Hell, the people at MY university somehow trusts the same folk who sank an entire athletic department to unheard of losing seasons and rules violations to manage 5 years of a clean record while on NCAA probation.
Family, its time to take some long, hard looks at ourselves and figure out how to get out of this mess. Doing the same thing that worked in the 70s/80s will not cut it anymore.
I dont have all the answers. No one does. But there has to be some new ideas and new voices at the table when hiring and firing decisions get made. No new idea should be off limits.
