<MCC STORY>Football scheduling will be a paramount focus as the Southwestern Athletic Conference holds its spring meetings Monday through Thursday at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Miss.
The emphasis has arisen after the conference ran into several snags on its way to implementing a mandated nine-game format for the 2004 season.
Southern Athletic Director Floyd Kerr said he expects the conference to announce which seven games count toward divisional standings.
Plus, with SWAC Commissioner Robert Vowels Jr. intending to have the conference dictate a master schedule for all SWAC games, this could be the first time the schools may see the proposed master plan.
"We want to build a five- to 10-year schedule," Kerr said. "We hope to confirm '04, then build the schedule from '05 to 2015." Kerr said SWAC Assistant Commissioner Duer Sharp, in his first year with the SWAC, has worked with Southern football coach Pete Richardson to "develop a model for us to look at."
