ZNSPR8502,

SWAC Tournament only in the first round does the hire seed automatically earn the designation as the home team. After the first team they alternative from the designation from the opposite of the game before and if both teams were designated as the home or the visiting team, then there is a coin flip.

So SU was the home team as the #1 seed versus AbSU as the #4 seed in the first round game and PVAMU was the visiting team as the #3 seed against AlSU as the #2 seed. So in the second round PVAMU was the home team and SU was the visiting team. As PVAMU is the visiting team and AlSU is the home team in the final game of the night.

 :dizzy: :smh:

I understand what you said, but the SWAC steady puts the effort into making those who have not earned something feel like they desire it. Even in youth league ball, you play your seed games (two game that serve as a way to have a regular season of sorts to determine tournament seedings) to determine by seeds who will be the home team until a winner has been left standing. :smh:

So, for example, SU rightfully batted at the bottom of the line-up as No. 1 seed against poor Bama State. But, since PV was a lower seed than Alcorn in their opening round, SU (No. 1 seed) has to bat at the top of the inning rather than the bottom, which their efforts through out the season has earned them. Now, that PV appears to be winning again against Alcorn. So, when they finish the victory tonight, they (No. 3 seed) are again going to have a chance to bat at the bottom of the inning by way of a coin toss. Thereby, the No. 1 seed in the West could end up playing 4 games and only bat at the bottom of the inning in one game? Wow!

Again, it doesn't make sense, but it is the SWAC and it is the rules they are playing by. lol... At least now I know what dumb rules they are applying to the situation.

Thanks! I do appreciate the insight.

Peace...

ZNSPR8502,

I understand your point and concern, but I would have to do some research to view whether this is a SWAC Tournament component or something that is generally used across the board in the Division I baseball tournament formatted competition.

if it was a SWAC-only issue....Cador, Robertson, etc. would argue to have that rule changed...

when they complain, things are altered such as when there were 6 teams and the loser of the semifinal game had to play a back-to-back emotional game....they changed that to the loser got a game sit out instead before playing again

Yes, the SWAC is run sooo raggedy. ADs make decisions and then Presidents come back and make totally different decisions that become the final decisions. Why are the ADs hired if the Presidents are going to make the decisions? If the SWAC wants the Presidents' input, why aren't they in the same meetings as the ADs and coaches?

It?s like the football deal of playing everybody during the season; you go undefeated and you still have to beat somebody who didn't go undefeated (since you beat them) in the championship. Why, because the SWAC can't work with ADs to ensure everyone plays everyone within the season's timeframe.

Its like a few years ago when some SWAC baseball teams didn't get all of their baseball games in due to rain-outs and you had a couple of teams trying to hold out and not play them in make-ups, because if SU didn't get the games in they wouldn't qualify for the tournament. Fortunately, one of them gave in when they won another game and realized that they would be in the tournament, which gave SU enough games to also make the tournament. I'm like, what kind of bush crap is this and just how irrelevant does the conference look when this type of junk happens over and over.

Between the weak conference leadership and the clickish presidential interference in athletic matters, this conference continues to go nowhere very fast.

Because of this lack of leadership, there is so much money out there in this world that isn't finding its way to the SWAC and its schools through sponsorships, broadcasting rights, quality media coverage, etc... Some SWAC schools are making quality advancements in the hiring of their ADs. So, perhaps, that will continue with other schools and eventually that will mean that the SWAC office's leadership will become more solid.

Again, thanks for the clarification. Though I obliviously don't agree and only adds to past shortfalls, I'd rather know the reasoning than not to know. In all your getting, get understanding. Thanks!

TxSU seems to be breezing through one bracket and SU and PV seem to be heading to another collision to decide who is coming from that bracket. I expected Alcorn to push PV a lot more. Early in the game with a 1-0 lead, they had a chance to put some distance between them by scoring 1 to 4 more runs and got nothing. As a good team will do, PV made them pay and flipped the script. In the battle of the Tigers tomorrow, it truly can go either way if JSU can get their runners on base. It helps TxSU to have only played 2 games (10-9:W & 13-3:W) verses JSU's three good battle (10-9:L, 7-4:W & 6-4:W). Mystery: How does GSU allow Valley to beat them on day one, especially so handily (12-2)? Wow! That hurt them.

SWAC: My baseball suggestion - Go back to a 6 team tournament and do it with all teams playing each other during the regular season and take the best 6 records, period. Then, in the tournament, go to a true double-elimination where you start with seeds, winners play winners, losers play losers, top seeds represent the home team every game until one team has the tournament championship.

Peace...

postseason was a new experience at GSU....Valley has been for 7 years straight while GSU sat out for 6 years.....plus, Valley always has one solid ace to throw and combine those factors, it's not a surprise...this time next year, GSU will have experience and understands how to turn it up another level in postseason

as for SWAC and individual schools when it comes to presidents, sponsorships, etc., communication...combination of factors in my opinion that varies by schools....

the SWAC office has some positions still open so when those are filled, then the business of reorganizing some things can come about..

yes, I'm optimistic with the recent hirings of ADs. I was really hoping a few years ago that GSU's AD would have gotten Commissioner, but he didn't and ended up as GSU's AD. So, the good thing is he is in the SWAC now. Good coaching moves have happened since then. PV did the same thing a few years earlier and we've all seen that program turn around. So, good moves are happening, and it is bound to flow into the SWAC office and we can start making up lost ground in terms of getting the SWAC current and competitive again.

Peace...

I'll be on campus as soon as I leave church. My church is 5 minutes from SU. :D If I had my phone with me, I would give you guys updates after every inning for the TxSU and JSU game but I don't have it with me.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!! SU VS. PV! NEED THE FANS SUPPORT AGAIN! THE TEXANS WILL BE THERE CHEERING ON EACH OTHER.

Up 1st, j-state will try to prove the tsu loss was a fluke. J-state has to beat tsu twice. JSU says they have the pitching to do it. J-state has won both games by giving up only 4 runs in each game.

As far as the as the east-west arguements go, 3 teams from the west are still in it, 3 from the east have headed back east. All of the run rule games so far have been west teams run ruling an east team

PV was loose last nite against alcorn. Their #8 hitter hit 2 homers. They were joking and laughing throughout the game. Expect a very serious team today.

ZN,

I've watched a bunch of conference baseball tournies over the years on TV, and from what I've seen, it's pretty standard for the seeding to affect home/away teams only in the first round.
