Rain hampered the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament for the third straight day. And like the tattered American flag beyond center field, the old, storm-battered bracket has been replaced with a new one.

Unable to use two fields to play six games tournament games Friday because of morning rain, only three games were played, all at Southern?s Lee-Hines Field.

The backlog forced the bracket times to change yet again and will push the championship game to 1 p.m. Monday. The bracket finals (and any second games, if necessary) will be Sunday.

Western Division champion Southern will play two-time defending SWAC champion Prairie View at noon today as the first of three games scheduled. That game, had there not been three days of rain, was originally set for 7 p.m. on Thursday.

I was sitting next to a number of pv fans. Where were you? Maybe a number of tspn members can meet up.

SU will need a large number of fans today. PV and TSU fans are coming together to cheer against SU. I wouldnt be surprised if a few gram, j-state and valley fans will be there cheering agnst su as well.

SU FANS! COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR JAGUARS!

If was nice meeting you last night,Jaguar94..I ran in to sujagtillidie in walmart late last night and we had a nice talk..Nice meeting you to sujag, imma come by the your tailgating place today..

NATION WE NEED TO COME OUT IN LARGE NUMBER'S TODAY..

I think the weather has helped pv and tsu the most. For pv, taylor got a full days rest so he could be ready today.

For tsu, their starter on thursday could be ready by tomorrow since they dont play today.

SU tried to save their starters, but now they may be good for only 1 game.

Thats baseball and the weather....unpredictable!

 That statement has me even more amped up to get to Lee Hines today. I'll be there at 10 or 10:30am. The weather is perfect!

lol MikeBigg said he was going to come and support SU if my memory serves me correctly.

Not smacking but,JSU needs to pick the ball up cleanly and make a good throw..That's the only thing wrong with them i see..

i understand that they've waited until the swac tourney to play the worst games of the season. i hope all of that is out of their system now....

The SWAC simply doesn't know how to do anything right!

They add two additional teams to their tournament and have not done do in a manner to ensure the best teams are playing to decide who will represent your conference in the NCAA tournament. After a season of play, it is no surprise why 1st place teams are 1st place and why 4th place teams are where they are. Pitching is too critical to baseball. Why waste your good team's pitching against opponents that shouldn't be in post season play? And to have it mandated by your conference... Now, with the excessive rain conditions, you have just that many more games to have to a way to work in... smh How brilliant can you not be when you go in a boardroom to make decision supposingly in the best interest of your conference? smh

Then, you add two additional non-thinking levels of mandating. You create two separate double-elimination brackets. There is a good chance that the SWAC's 3 best teams are in one bracket. If that is as it appears, only one of those will end up in the championship against what will be a team that should have had to beat out at least one of those teams. Why, because they just happen to be in the strongest division in the conference. The tournament should be about the conference's best team's battling to represent the conference in the NCAA tournament. The second additional non-thinking level of mandating from the SWAC was to have a one-game winner take all championship. You force the better teams to use pitching against team's that shouldn't be there and now they have to hope all the cards lay out right, so they will have enough of the right pitching left to have a chance against a fortunate opponent.

There is a lot of added reasoning to lessen the chance that the SWAC's best baseball team will actually represent all of us in the SWAC tournament. At the moment, it seems like it could work out due to the wisdom of the head coach. But, though there are only two days, supposingly remaining, that picture can change very quickly.

Another mess up on the SWAC's behalf, is the excellent coverage of the tournament last year. It was so cool and great to be able to log onto the internet and listen to the SWAC tournament games being broadcast. Now, we are back to most of them having no coverage because it is back to the teams being responsible for their own coverage. No, viable or relevant advertising or promotion was done weeks before the tournament to communicate that the tournament was coming to Baton Rouge. There are a lot of baseball youth teams in the BR area and high school teams. If they know you are there, some may come out and spend a little money in the park, while possibly having a stronger consideration for signing with a SWAC team, since this is supposed to be displaying the best that the SWAC has to offer. So, no pre-promotions and you discontinue the very good game to game coverage that was so highly received just last year.

Oh well, my bad. But, I'm tired of my conference operating worse than a 6 year old soccer league.

Peace...

The feed from the link in the earlier post is working GREAT!

The PV/SU Matchup is knotted up 3-3 in the top of the 3rd (I think). PV's freshmen pitcher, Zapata (sp), has gotten rattled in this inning -- walking two and hitting two batters. SU still has the bases loaded with 1 out.

Let's go, Jaguars!
