Love FAMU! Although they aren’t what they use to be, having them in the SWAC is exciting.
The MEAC Band style lacks soul, (my NOLA-FAMU/Norfolk/BCU brothers hate when I make that claim, but it’s true), but it doesn’t lack dynamics and great musicianship. It’s no secret, the best ballads, traditional marches and fanfares have came out of the MEAC for decades. SWAC bandheads hate it, but it’s true.
The “modem day” SWAC style can easily turn into an ignorant jaw puffing blast festive that no true baseman/musician enjoys, but other than that, the soul and funk that makes HBCU bands unique is still alive. Quick crowd hypers and the nasty flavors that make people want to see what’s going to happen next definitely comes out of the SWAC. No disrespect to MEAC, but the are like the Big 10 and PAC-12 football of HBCU bands. What does that mean? Once you get pass the top 1 or 2 teams, you don’t expect much from anyone else or have any expectations.
I can’t wait to see all of the different flavors of the SWAC. The conference instantly improved in bands and athletics with the addition of the Florida heat!

speak for yourself...I don’t let white people or “tradition” dictate what a good band is. Music isn’t math..it’s all subjective. Why should the way PWIs play be the acceptable fashion? This is our culture & we do things our way

First of all, FUuuk white people. They have nothing to do with my comment. Why would it when they have stolen everything that we have created in music? Come on brutha? Please don’t go there.
Your love, honor, glory and praises to Southern University is cute and all, but someone with decades and deep SU ties like me don’t have to click on SU clips to get a point about the SWAC or the Jukebox.
Your comment doesn’t change what the MEAC or SWAC has been or has become. One conference has been more musical and dynamic focused more than the other for decades. One has had more “soul” and “flavor” than the other for decades now as well. At the end of the day, true musicians who take music seriously know the facts. Also, SU has had some very nice ballads, but to say they have had the best for “decades” is a bold statement than can easily be rebuffed. This isn’t coming from some random marching band Joe. Please believe me when I say that I have the resume to make that comment.
There has been a world outside of the SWAC for decades my brutha. There is also a world inside of the SWAC that it seems that you are missing as well. Jackson State and PVAMU has some very nice ballads in there libraries throughout the decades if you missed them. FAMU, BCU and Tennessee State have a ballad voice as well.

Well, 1st off, I didn’t create the thread. I can only speak for myself, but the intent on my behalf was not to start anything. Secondly, the SWAC has been courting schools like FAMU and Tennessee State for years, so this is nothing new. Thirdly, I’m trying to figure out where in these 3 pages did i reference what we did to a swac opponent in the years between 2000-2012????? Those schools you mentioned giving us trouble is just a matter of opinion...NO SHADE!!!!!..However, I do like PVAMU though......I’m interested to know what school are you affiliated with Tony11?
Quite honestly, I’m not new to the swac page at all..I’ve known this platform to exist since the year 2000. This was back when he 5th quarter platform was running as well, where swac and meac bands all congregated... Additionally, I’ve met a few people on here through the years, very nice people at that......So with this all being said, I don’t get any thrills off of “READING” someone on here...TF.??? That is clearly what I am not about Tony11....

2. Ask BCU what again? Spelling out netflix and bringing out Pastor Troy in 2019 is doing something? Your best song in the 5th was a throwback version of candy rain. Sure BCU got off tempo on mind control but recovered, unlike when JSU gets off tempo they restart the song over (even in their own gym).
3. All this rah rah about bands is pointless because the majority of yall are not coming to DB that often anyways.

Booed after BCU played mind control sure, it is what it is. BCU ran the song back a few times throughout the season and changed some of the percussion parts to make it more horn player friendly and didn't get booed or go off tempo then. Take away that moment that game was not even close JSU was on hush for a good bit of in game action.

And y’all were getting booed because y’all brought those same ass boring songs to the 5th against a SWAC band that y’all have been playing since 2000. That will get you booed whether you’re going against JSU, SU, Valley or UAPB. You have to come strong in the 5th & 0 quarters in the SWAC.
Lay Low, Ice Cream Man, Hovi Baby, Wrong Idea, Vice Versa and all them other high school songs won’t cut it in the SWAC

The clips from the game and the 5th say otherwise. SWAC band rules are trash but there is a lot you can do besides just sit there and random fanfares and percussion callouts.
That is not all BCU plays during a game. Go to one instead of watching Youtube clips.

Bethlehem Cookman can do what other swac bands do. Bring that band to Jackson in October. Redeem yourself. It’s simple. We battle in the SWAC. lol Them bubble gum rap arrangement shits with them chants & dance breaks. No sir. Not gonna cut it. All that does is turn a 2 min song into a 6 min song. That’s too damn long. You’ve lost the crowd’s interest.

nobody is expecting y’all to change. Matter fact, I hope y’all don’t! It’s always good seeing and hearing something different. I marched for Bama State in 08 when we had a game against Cookman in Daytona..two things I’ll always remember from that trip is 1) it was my first time seeing the ocean, and I was amazed, and 2) Cookman was the best sounding band I’ve ever and still have ever heard..
the sound quality is top notch. Y’all just boring as hell
but for the love of god, please update that book, and play some real songs in the 0 and 5th quarters.
