As of 7am on 4/27, the SU Board plans to FIRE the Juke, KKPsi, Kappa man himself Nathan B. Haymer for the kickback accusation. The hearing will take place later this morning according to The Jukebox Nation facebook page (over 5K followers).

I agree with the board if he in fact sent that text (which from what I research he did). That kickback request is inexcusable and exposed him as being unfit to lead this very important band program.

Any ideas on who will lead the Mighty Jukebox once he is gone? Like I said, I believe he sent that text because power usually corrupts people and he came into a lot of power as the head of the Jukebox.

First of all, where's your source?
I'll believe it when it becomes official. No doubt Haymer will "trump" up support from those who love him more than their school.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if he's let go.

It about time, they ended the buffoonery! Haymer did raise money for the Jukebox, field wise, the Jukebox was stagnant under Haymer.

Reports: Southern University's band director resigns

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Questions are swirling around Southern University Friday morning about whether the director of the university's famed marching band is still employed there.

The Southern University newspaper, The Southern Digest, reports the director of the Human Jukebox Marching Band, Nathan B. Haymer, has resigned.

However, a Southern University spokeswoman insists the report is inaccurate.

The publication reports Haymer was given the option to either resign or be fired sometime Thursday.

However, Southern University spokesperson Janene Tate disputed the newspaper report Friday morning and insisted Haymer is still employed by Southern.

As of Thursday evening, a series of videos and posts on Facebook surfaced including from Haymer’s brother, Niles Haymer, suggesting that changes had been made with the band’s leadership.

According to the Southern Digest, Haymer was locked out of his office Thursday afternoon before announcing at an annual banquet that evening that he was allowed to either leave or be terminated.

Several band members have gathered outside an ongoing meeting of the SU Board of Supervisors for a demonstration but so far there has not been any demonstration during that meeting.

There is also nothing on the agenda for the meeting that suggests there has been a change in the band’s leadership.

Haymer has been the subject of scrutiny since last month after allegations surfaced that he asked for kickbacks to schedule performances for the marching band. Haymer denies the allegations.

With Southern band leader's status unclear, Human Jukebox members flock to show support

Members of Southern University's famed Human Jukebox crowded into the Southern Board of Supervisors meeting Friday, pleading the case for their band director to keep his job.

A lawsuit filed earlier this year in Baton Rouge accused band director Nathan Haymer of requesting a kickback in order for the band to appear at an event for public school children.

Janene Tate, a spokeswoman for Southern, said the university is still reviewing that litigation and that Haymer remains the director.

But students were still concerned that his departure was imminent, urging the school to keep him. "He’ll do anything and everything to make sure he has everything we need. So please reconsider and keep our band director," said Makayla Lundy, a senior.

Micheal Bingham, also a senior, said Haymer "serves as a leader, he serves as a father figure to me."

In response, President-Chancellor Ray Belton praised the students for their passion, but said he couldn't discuss any details about Haymer's employment.

"This band literally defines Southern University. I can’t say how proud I am of the courage you’ve showing this morning in coming before this board," Belton said.

Julian Jackson, class of ‘77 and a former band member, said he canceled all his appointments and drove up from New Orleans to be at Friday’s meeting. He said he was about to donate money to the university but stopped when he learned Haymer might be leaving.

“If Haymer won’t be here, I won’t be around Southern University,” said Jackson.

Haymer got to be on the dumbest people to ever work in the SWAC. You use your personal cell and official email to request under the table payments?

So true ... the dumbest thing ever! And his brother is even dumber putting out a statement saying his brother doesn't think he did it .... like either he did it or didn't.

INVESTIGATIVE UNIT: Southern's band director took thousands of dollars in kickbacks
April 27, 2018 5:37 PM in Top Story Source: WBRZ By: Chris Nakamoto

BATON ROUGE- Southern University confirmed Friday that a pending investigation by WBRZ led to the questions that are now swirling around Southern University's Band Director, Nathan Haymer.

For months, the WBRZ Investigative Unit has been reporting on questionable activities Haymer was involved in. Among the stories was a lawsuit over one company saying Haymer wouldn't allow the band to play if he didn't receive a kickback. Another concerned Haymer's felony theft arrest from 2005, after police reports showed $40,000 went missing from a high school in Lake Charles.

Following those stories, an anonymous source contacted WBRZ Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto alleging rampant theft by Haymer at Southern University. The allegation involved Haymer demanding money from Mardi Gras krewes in New Orleans to have the band play at various parades and events. During that time extensive research, meetings, and phone calls were held with our sources which included some in the Mardi Gras krewes.

Two weeks ago, the WBRZ Investigative Unit submitted a public records request, asking for all emails tied to any Mardi Gras krewes sent to or received by Nathan Haymer's school email account. The emails show throughout the 2018 Carnival Season, Haymer demanded payments if those krewes wanted Southern University's band to play.

The krewes involved are Bacchus, Zulu, Femme Fatale, Poseidon and Nyx.

One email dated January 3, 2018, reads: "Reduce payment to Mr. Haymer to $3,000."

One email dated January 3, 2018, reads: "Reduce payment to Mr. Haymer to $3,000."

Simultaneously, one sent to Zulu read, "Make check payable to Nathan B. Haymer for $3,000." That was documented as staff pay. Sources within Zulu tell WBRZ their check was made out to Haymer and was cashed.

Also in January, this email from Haymer to Femme Fatale, "... I will be paid $3,700."

Last month, we spoke to Haymer involving allegations of kickbacks outside the Band Hall.

"I'm an honest person," Haymer said. "I have integrity. Southern pays me well enough, and there's no need for me to get kickbacks."

Friday, dozens of band members showed their support for Haymer in front of the Board of Supervisors. In fact, many of them pleaded with the board not to terminate him. But, our sources said the checks that were made out to Haymer were not deposited in school accounts, leading to what they have described as "blatant theft."

Two months ago, Amy Newsom, an attorney representing Octagon Media told WBRZ her client was also a victim of Nathan Haymer. Octagon Media sued after Haymer requested a 10-percent kickback to have the band and the Dancing Dolls perform at an event.

"Yes, the 10 percent needs to be made payable to me so that the staff can be properly compensated," a text message quoted in the lawsuit from Haymer's phone reads. "I am asking for you to hide this 10 percent in your percentage charge from your business. If this can't be done, please let me know."

"When she refused to pay Mr. Haymer the kickback, he didn't show up to the event," Newsom said. "Many of the school children were disappointed, and my client suffered financial losses as a result of Mr. Haymer's actions."

Tonight, Southern University has launched its own investigation into the emails.

A statement from the school to the WBRZ Investigative Unit reads, "The University continues to read the emails requested."

No further comment was provided.

Wonder why Chris didn't ask or publish the next logical question when talking to the Krewes. I would like to know if this was something that only Haymer allegedly did, or was this normal practice for all parade participants.
