just last year ASU played Tx Sou in Houston on the Saturday night before the TDC.JR said:For the same reason you don't play before Tuskegee. Yes MH, I know that is only 4 days but you get my point. You know damn well if SU had bungled the schedule with playing Bama State that yall would have not played us either before Tuskegee.

I changed the partners to teams that play annual classics. There were four sets of those, .

What right does UAPB have to change our playing date just because it does not jive with what they want to do? Then they have the audacity to tell us "you will have to play us on a certain other date that is convenient for UAPB. Who do they think they are? We are not about to be pushed around like that......
When SU did not agree to play in St. Louis on Oct. 2, UAPB should have just notified the promoters that that date was not available. Instead of acting alone to secure another opponent, knowing they were scheduled to play SU on that date, UAPB should have contaced the conference office at that point for an opinion in the matter. That SU is available on November 20 is a non-issue. Whether we play on November 20 should be left strictly up to SU. We were fully ready, willing, and able to honor our contractual playing date of October 2. We didn't break any conrtract. We didn't renege on any conract. UAPB did, and that, my friend, is where the problem lies.

true, ANYBODY would want to have a week off to prepare for a game, but if it comes down to it, that week off should not be a valid enough reason to cancel a game.
In this case here, SU should play the game. And if they protest, the SWAC should have forced them to play it!!!
:shame: :shame: :shame:Deuce said:Its no picnic traveling to Baton Rouge and Grambling in the same year either, but if a team "chooses" to go to Louisiana or Alabama or Texas twice in the same year, that's their choice. All it means is that the next year, they won't have to travel to that state at all.
So I don't think that it should be an "automatic" ruling that you can't travel to the same state twice in the same year. Southern's problem this year is that they will be coming to Alabama two weeks in a row. That's a little tough.
They may want to stay in Montgomery or Birmingham until Thursday, and then ease on up to Huntsville. If the players miss too many classes, they can always buy a good grade later. :emlaugh:
That's your opinion, (as arrogant and self serving as it may be) but its a FACT that SU and PB both are in the same conference, in the same division and should play each other, as long as those FACTS remain.JROCK said:Let us be frank.......That is really a small time game.

My perspective is not an opinion but a FACT.
To suggest a game played a week later is some kind of legitimate reason to not play a division opponent is crazy.
This is the "reason." Accept it or remain disillusioned:
The reason we don't play the Saturday before the game is because the Bayou Classic is the CROWN JEWEL of Black College Football and we will not let any "penny ante" secondary and tertiary programs dictate to us.
School pride is one thing, but wrong is just plain wrong.
JROCK said:Let us be frank.......That is really a small time game. The Bayou Classic is played before a National Television audience and for the last 7 years have decided the conference champion. The reason we don't play the Saturday before the game is because the Bayou Classic is the CROWN JEWEL of Black College Football and we will not let any "penny ante" secondary and tertiary programs dictate to us. You have been asking for a reason and here you have it. I don't know why so many people are dancing around the issue and trying to exemplify diplomacy. Sorry if it sounds rough (not that sorry) but that is the true answer.

You may think the bc its more important but it is just a game that counts no more or no less than the rest of the conference games.

If it is not that important then just forfeit the game and see how much it counts and how important it would be. What does Nov. 20 have to do with Nov. 27 you still have a week to prepare for your next game
