JR,

You're wrong there, my friend.

Bama State DOES PLAY the weekend before Turkey Day ! ! !

For the past three years we have played a game on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and they have ALL been road games (@ Texas Southern, @ Savannah St. and @ Miss. Valley). And that is an even shorter turnaround (5 days versus 7 days) than Southern would have had by playing Pine Bluff on November 20th.

This year though, we're going back to the OLD way of not playing on that weekend.

For the same reason you don't play before Tuskegee. Yes MH, I know that is only 4 days but you get my point. You know damn well if SU had bungled the schedule with playing Bama State that yall would have not played us either before Tuskegee.
just last year ASU played Tx Sou in Houston on the Saturday night before the TDC.

true, ANYBODY would want to have a week off to prepare for a game, but if it comes down to it, that week off should not be a valid enough reason to cancel a game.

In this case here, SU should play the game. And if they protest, the SWAC should have forced them to play it!!!

OK, I did it

I did it and only had to move four sites and one date.

It wasn't too hard, and most everybody has 4 home, 4 away, and 1 neutral.

I changed the partners to teams that play annual classics. There were four sets of those, and the two left over are fairly close to one another.

I count at least 5..

SU-Grambling
AAMU-AlaStat
JSU-ALcorn
Grambling-PV
PV- TxSO

Regardless, that man has no business trying to schedule games for each school. I hope we get some coaches with pride in the SWAC some day soon.

The fault for this fiasco cannot be laid on SU. All fingers should rightfully point to UAPB. What right does UAPB have to change our playing date just because it does not jive with what they want to do? Then they have the audacity to tell us "you will have to play us on a certain other date that is convenient for UAPB. Who do they think they are? We are not about to be pushed around like that......

When SU did not agree to play in St. Louis on Oct. 2, UAPB should have just notified the promoters that that date was not available. Instead of acting alone to secure another opponent, knowing they were scheduled to play SU on that date, UAPB should have contaced the conference office at that point for an opinion in the matter. That SU is available on November 20 is a non-issue. Whether we play on November 20 should be left strictly up to SU. We were fully ready, willing, and able to honor our contractual playing date of October 2. We didn't break any conrtract. We didn't renege on any conract. UAPB did, and that, my friend, is where the problem lies.

The fault is just as much southerns as it is Uapb
The problem arose with UAPB trying to land Southern for one of the Golden Lions' traditional games, the Gateway Classic in St. Louis, on Sept. 25.

To facilitate going to the Gateway Classic, Southern moved its Alabama State game to Oct. 2 in Montgomery.

But Southern eventually refused to take part in the Gateway Classic because of the extra travel costs, Kerr told the Southern Board of Supervisors last week. UAPB then agreed to play SWAC Eastern Division foe Alabama A&M in the Gateway Classic and penciled in Southern for Oct. 2 in Pine Bluff. But Kerr said Southern expected to still play at UAPB on Sept. 25.

Southern knew the Gateway Classic was Sept. 25, when they turned down the invitiation but they kept UAPB on their schedule for that date even though they turned down the opportunity to play in it.
So what are the rules in case of a tie, will they just make something up as they go.

Let us be frank.......That is really a small time game. The Bayou Classic is played before a National Television audience and for the last 7 years have decided the conference champion. The reason we don't play the Saturday before the game is because the Bayou Classic is the CROWN JEWEL of Black College Football and we will not let any "penny ante" secondary and tertiary programs dictate to us. You have been asking for a reason and here you have it. I don't know why so many people are dancing around the issue and trying to exemplify diplomacy. Sorry if it sounds rough (not that sorry) but that is the true answer.

Its no picnic traveling to Baton Rouge and Grambling in the same year either, but if a team "chooses" to go to Louisiana or Alabama or Texas twice in the same year, that's their choice. All it means is that the next year, they won't have to travel to that state at all.

So I don't think that it should be an "automatic" ruling that you can't travel to the same state twice in the same year. Southern's problem this year is that they will be coming to Alabama two weeks in a row. That's a little tough.

They may want to stay in Montgomery or Birmingham until Thursday, and then ease on up to Huntsville. If the players miss too many classes, they can always buy a good grade later. :emlaugh:
:shame: :shame: :shame:

That's your opinion, (as arrogant and self serving as it may be) but its a FACT that SU and PB both are in the same conference, in the same division and should play each other, as long as those FACTS remain.
To suggest a game played a week later is some kind of legitimate reason to not play a division opponent is crazy.

School pride is one thing, but wrong is just plain wrong.

I had to flip homes on a few and move some dates, but this would balance the travel and no team would travel or host more than 2 weeks in a row.

I flip-flopped Alcorn's Texas games to keep from moving 2 JSU home games to away.

Y'all think we should send this to the commish to see if this works?

My perspective is not an opinion but a FACT.

To suggest a game played a week later is some kind of legitimate reason to not play a division opponent is crazy.

This is the "reason." Accept it or remain disillusioned:

The reason we don't play the Saturday before the game is because the Bayou Classic is the CROWN JEWEL of Black College Football and we will not let any "penny ante" secondary and tertiary programs dictate to us.

School pride is one thing, but wrong is just plain wrong.

The Bayou Classic was in existence before Bama State & Pine Bluff entered the SWAC. If you did not like what the teams that participate in the Bayou Classic do, you should have joined another conference. This is the answer to your retort. It is called tough love and the truth.

(Be Careful what you ask {i.e.why S.U. can't play the Saturday b-4 the BC} for. Sometimes you just may get exactly that and dont like what you have received.)

You may think the bc its more important but it is just a game that counts no more or no less than the rest of the conference games. If it is not that important then just forfeit the game and see how much it counts and how important it would be. What does Nov. 20 have to do with Nov. 27 you still have a week to prepare for your next game

I might believe this if someone other than the two BC participants actually won the West, or, for that matter, the whole conference.....

The decision has already been made by the council of presidents. The game will not be played and we don't have to forfeit "jack." But make no mistake your school should really be in d-2. If you think for one moment we are going to let a small time program like Pine Bluff dictate to us you have got to be out of your mind. Your school is one of them I referenced as tertiary programs.

And what if the Swac office set the schedule next year and has Southern to play a conference game the week before the bc what then.

The FACTS are the gateway classic is ALWAYS the last weekend in September. UAPB had ORIGINALLY scheduled SU on OCT 2 and begin negotiating to play on the 25 of Sept in St. Louis, the negotiations hit a snag and in the meantime SU scheduled someone else for the OCT 2 game already set in PINE BLUFF. When the negotiations reached a dead end UAPB found another opponent for the Sept 25 game. This is when it became reality to PB that SU had scheduled someone else for OCt 2 and now the scramble begins for a date to play. Nov 20 is that date and Su vehemently cries noway not a week before our bayou. You can believe what you choose to but my friends these are the FACTS. And the SWAC ain't Shizt!!!!!! for allowing the constitution/by-laws to be amended for one year so that SU can get out of playing a conference game. It really doesn't matter whose at fault the SWAC should have stood firm on it rules and not wavered. This conference is the laughing stock of college football, its a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to think the SWAC was the laughing stock of college football lately for the stupid stuff we've been doing. Now I pray that nobody really pays us any attention.

My God,
what does Bama State's entrance to the SWAC have to do with this?
:smh:

It's no legitimate justification for why two division opponents are not playing each other.

undefinedIt was southern's fault all alone....UAPB had Southern scheduled for Oct. 2, In Dec. Earl Wilson the Gateway Classic promoter send out feeders to Southern, A&M and a few more schools. Southern may more demands than the promoter wanted to meet. So the promoter chose A&M, but Southern kept UAPB for sept. 25 when the game was scheduled to play on Oct. 2 originally. UAPB had southern schedule for the correct date. which was Oct. 2.
