This is a bunch of CROCK!!!!!!!!!!

How in the world could the SWAC sanction two teams in the same division not playing each other??? Talk about no back bone!!!!!!

and what is this mess about SU not being able to play the week before the BC?
WHY??

This is sad that they are doing this. Both teams have a open date at the same time and can play that game at that time. There is no reason that they can't play on that date. This makes a unfair balance in the division as far as a competitive balance taking place. It throws off part of your tie breaking rules because division play would have been invovled also. The commisioner is beling played like a hand puppet and is not showing anyone who is in charge. Sometimes you got to put your foot down, I guess he has no feet.

This is a mess! I think both schools are at fault for this big mess. I is due to a total lack of communication. Looks too me like SU assumed that they would still play UAPB on Sept 25 but it would be in Pine Bluff instead of St. Louis (this is a dumb assumption since they should have also figured that the dome was booked for UAPB to play in the Gateway Classic -vs- somebody...not specifically SU). It also appears that UAPB assumed that SU knew that the Gateway Classic was on Sept 25 and that they would play in it by finding another opponent. I guess they also assumed that SU had already contacted Alabama State about switching back to the previous dates so that they could play SU on Oct 2. Couldn't all of this been resolved or at least clarified by TALKING when the deal fell through?

This is so embarrasing.

Even though I hate the date why is Nov. 20 not a good date for Su besides the fact that you have a game the following week. Hey Uapb has a game that following week also. This is crap.

Co signing. What IF both teams have a perfect divisional and conference record? Then how would the SWAC decides who will play in the championship game?

Even after all the mess and misunderstanding of St. Louis and Sept 25 or Oct 2, the date of Nov. 20 was still out there. I'm still waiting to find out why SU can't play the week before the BC!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all know they can. I think Pete is just rocking the boat on this one to make a point. You see how he referenced the JSU-TSU situation as having opened the door to allow SU not to play UAPB.

Our presidents have absolutely ZERO clue as to how to run an athletic conference.

Exactly! The ball was in Pete Richardson's court! It's was his decision.

I think these are just growing pains of the SWAC. I can't believe it can get any worse than this.

There is no reason......

We're not permitted to play on that day (the Saturday before the Bayou Classic)," Kerr said. "We've traditionally not played on that day. There are some other schools in the conference who have a date like that they do not play on. ... That's our biggest game."

Even so, Southern has played at that time recently, against Prairie View in 2001 in a game postponed to November in the wake of the Sept. 11 tragedies.

As of now, Southern is left with a 10-game schedule, the one approved by the Board last week.

"We have permission to go out and play another game, if we can, to play in Mumford," Kerr said. "I don't know if we can (find another team). We'll see if we can find a quality opponent."

Looks like Allen will get back on the schedule.......good timing for SU to get another home game because they don't want to play UAPB.

 This is a UAPB home game, who has the most to lose. :fart:

I don't understand what SU had to lose in going to St. Louis. I mean, sure teh classic seems to have very low payout but that classic would have to be real booty (maybe that is why AAMU is going) to not pay for travel expenses and then give SU some cash (even if not much). With it being an SU road game, it should not matter unless they were trying to get SU to sign a two year deal or something.

I'm on the case

Please post any 2005 non-conference games that are set already.

I'm going to try to create a round-robin SWAC schedule using the following guidelines:

1. I will keep traditional games on traditional dates.

2. Every team will play 5H/4A or 4H/5A.

3. No team will travel to or host both Bamas or Texes in the same season.

4. I will attempt to follow the current order of games as best as possible.

Here are some game dates I know for sure:

Sep 3: PVAM/TSU
Nov 19: JSU/ALC
Nov 19 and 26: ALST open
Nov 26: SU/GSU

Yes I know that but since SU don't have to play, they are down to 10 games and can now schedule another game and that game can be at SU(home) for them.

Touch Down.........S.U.!!!!

Its no picnic traveling to Baton Rouge and Grambling in the same year either, but if a team "chooses" to go to Louisiana or Alabama or Texas twice in the same year, that's their choice. All it means is that the next year, they won't have to travel to that state at all.

So I don't think that it should be an "automatic" ruling that you can't travel to the same state twice in the same year. Southern's problem this year is that they will be coming to Alabama two weeks in a row. That's a little tough.

They may want to stay in Montgomery or Birmingham until Thursday, and then ease on up to Huntsville. If the players miss too many classes, they can always buy a good grade later. :emlaugh:

Actually you would use the same premise that is used in basketball and alternate the teams by year.

JSU-SU
MVSU-ASU
AAMU-ASU
GSU-UAPB
TSU-PVAMU

The saddest thing about this entire thing is that Vowels job is safe because he is making the Presidents happy. We are moving backwards fast.

TP, apparently the payout that UAPB presented to SU to go to St.Louis wouldn't pay for all the expenses. One thing I know about SU and this started when Casem was the AD, is we aint going no where and not get a payday. Hell I would have rather played PB in St. Louis than PB or Little Rock. I think the Jag Nation would have supported it, but not at the expense of us not making any money. It would be far cheaper to play in Pine Bluff. This was like Momof2ym said. Both schools assumed too much instead of talking it out. PB should have told SU if you turn us down we are still going to St. Louis on that date. And SU should have asked PB the same question if they did not say anything. SU's and PB's AD's are at fault initially. Secondly the SWAC is at fault for allowing ALL our schools to do whatever they want. All this assuming. Just like the TxSU and JSU mess as well. Both of those schools knew damn well that TxSU and PV play on Labor Day weekend. No way that should got scheduled like that. That would be like scheduling Bama State on Turkey Day if your name is not Tuskegee or scheduling to play SU or GSU on that Thanksgiving Saturday in November if you aint SU or GSU. :smh:

The fault for this fiasco cannot be laid on SU. All fingers should rightfully point to UAPB. What right does UAPB have to change our playing date just because it does not jive with what they want to do? Then they have the audacity to tell us "you will have to play us on a certain other date that is convenient for UAPB. Who do they think they are? We are not about to be pushed around like that......

When SU did not agree to play in St. Louis on Oct. 2, UAPB should have just notified the promoters that that date was not available. Instead of acting alone to secure another opponent, knowing they were scheduled to play SU on that date, UAPB should have contaced the conference office at that point for an opinion in the matter. That SU is available on November 20 is a non-issue. Whether we play on November 20 should be left strictly up to SU. We were fully ready, willing, and able to honor our contractual playing date of October 2. We didn't break any contract. We didn't renege on any contract. UAPB did, and that, my friend, is where the problem lies.

okay, to move beyond that, let's all blame UAPB for the conflicts with the St. Louis game and the Sept or Oct mixup.

now............

You're BOTH free on Nov. 20th.

still waiting to hear a legitimate reason why yall can't play on that date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no "legitimate" reason, WE JUST WON'T. Now that answer your question? :lecture:

BgJag,

Thanks for the honest response.

Now give us an honest response to this question: If the shoe was on the other foot, and Southern had done what Pine Bluff did, would the SWAC be doing back-flips to accomodate Pine Bluff, or would they tell Pine Bluff to have their arse in Baton Rouge on November 20th, or else?

For the same reason you don't play before Tuskegee. Yes MH, I know that is only 4 days but you get my point. You know damn well if SU had bungled the schedule with playing Bama State that yall would have not played us either before Tuskegee. This isn't like 911 when we played PV in November, that was an unscheduled event. PB had all opportunity to secure the St. Louis deal with someone else and let SU know not to ask Bama State to move our game to Oct 2. We could have just played you guys as normal.

Another point is that is just bush league that schools get pissed because someone don't want to take a SWAC game to a classic. PB has always played a non conference game at that Classic anyway. You have to organize a game like that with a conference member a whole lot differently. Just like Bama State does a good job of scheduling the Mobile game. Yall just don't jack folks around. When a SWAC team was not able to come last year, you guys played BCC. This year you had your choice of us or JSU and chose JSU. Both fit your schedule. Although I had hope we played in Mobile. But nonetheless you guys didn't jack with anyone's schedule.

So if SU doesn't want to play on Nov 20th then we shouldn't be made too. We didn't move the game they did. Maybe GR is right maybe it is time to look outside the SWAC. Right now I don't care how arrogant that sounds. Because I am sick and tired of the BS the SWAC and our member schools have been subjected too. Even when SU has been wrong as well. This time we aint wrong. We are guilty of not asking PB what the hell you are going to do since we turned the St. Louis trip down. This could have been solved much easier if we communicate. Now aint the time to just say go play on Nov. 20th. cause we said so.
