Kids couldn't really get COVID-19 - now all of a sudden they can - its like we figure it out and then bam - a new variant that attacks the previously immune is let in the air - what's next?
Kids have always been susceptible to COVID. Pre-delta variant 4 million U.S. kids became infected with the virus and there were over 300 deaths in 2020 alone.

Throughout the pandemic, the messaging had been that kids were at low risk for infection, transmission, and poor outcomes. But that's because there really wasn't enough data out there considering kids were rarely tested for the virus (because they were likely to be asymptomatic) and they were sheltered due to a year of school closures last spring and a reduction in other public activities. But once school started in the fall, cases in kids skyrocketed and were associated with community spread.

With a more transmissible variant (delta) and our country largely no longer engaged in COVID mitigation measures (no masking, no social distancing) combined with more public movement (travel, gathering), kids -- and people in general -- are getting infected at higher rates.

Not necessarily I haven’t taken the vaccine specifically due to my wife being pregnant and now breastfeeding. I will not be going to any games this year. I also work alone 95% and other times I wear my mask and social distance. Once my wife stops breastfeeding we will discuss getting the vaccine.

There was a fully vaccinated nurse at the hospital where my wife works who contracted COVID. Her toddler daughter, husband and newborn unfortunately also became infected. But her newborn avoided serious illness, in part, because the baby received antibodies through her mother's breastmilk.

While there might not be much data on the impact of vaccines on pregnant or breastfeeding women (the consensus is that there haven't been any complications), unvaccinated pregnant women are at a much higher risk for severe illness and death once infected with COVID. There have been many accounts of pregnant women and their babies dying of COVID.

Good information but until a decision is made we will be staying home and stay away from people. You guys enjoy the season for me.

The Lt. Gov. in Texas is a racist and his claim about unvaccinated Black pepole has been thoroughly debunked with actual data.
I hear ya, but let's watch and see what "they" do! Not sure how this became a black peoples problem, but alas maybe this is what it will take for people to start drawing their respective lines in the sand!

One conservative politician making a false claim isn't indicative of this being a black people problem. Just weeks ago, far-right conservatives were blaming migrants for spreading COVID, which again, was proven false. Those politicial hacks are just trying to blame anyone for this crisis except indignant white folks and members of their own party.

sounds almost manmade

The virus is mutationing.

Doctor told us if we didn’t feel comfortable don’t take it. They don’t have enough research on the long term affects of the vaccine on children from conception to adolescents. So it might be good now but bad later. We understand the risks that is why we are staying home for the next 17 or so months (Son is 3 weeks old). I am going to miss watching games in person but thank good for streaming and radio.

What would be the long term effects of a 2 dose vaccine? It's not like blood pressure medicine folks take everyday for 40 years....

well since what's in the vaccine is mRNA. the question is what's the long term effects of having mRNA in your body?

well 1. the mRNA is destroyed by your body after reading it so it's not around long term at all.

well 2. your body already has mRNA in it. your body makes mRNA to tell your cells (actually ribosomes in your cells) what protein to make so it's nothing new to your body.

y'all are going to have to get used to mRNA tech. it is brilliant and will drive biotech for the next decade at least.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/feat...rgets-hiv-cancer-flu-zika-after-covid-vaccine

If you can buy some moderna, buy it and buy me dinner in a few years after one of the braves beatdowns. It's pricey but their pipeline is so robust, covid vaccine is just the tip of the iceberg. (try and let it drop a little... it's been a rocketship lately)

my colleague was recently diagnosed with cancer. docs told him he had spots all over his body (metastatic). lots of tears, family and friends mourning... went to m.d. anderson. they ran some test... prescribed a pill and told him he'd be fine.

that's where medicine is now. he takes a pill that cures his cancer. my kids take a pill (oxybryta) that fixes the anemia of their sickle cell anemia.

That is unknown. There isn’t any data on it. These vaccines are brand new. Not enough testing to even predict what would happen.

Scientists have been testing and researching mRNA for decades. Just because the public learned about it in 2020 doesn't mean researchers just made the shit in 2020.

Please learn information from legitimate sources.

Oh..I get what you're saying and agree with it. However, let's pay attention to what actually "happens in society" and how the powers that be frame the narrative going forward!

I can all but guarantee this will be labeled as a "black peoples problem/issue" and blacks are the main culprit of why additional variants are arising.

Often times the truth gets drowned out to popular opinion and lies disguised as truth to achieve a goal that has not yet been revealed to the public. We KNOW white conservative Christians should be the blame because they are the supposed majority. But lets wait and see who they really blame!

We can revisit this thread in the future once this comes to fruition!

The continuation and severity of the pandemic has been blamed (unfairly) on “the unvaccinated,” not a specific racial demographic, though the poster children representative of that group are white conservatives who value their freedumb to be anti-vax and anti-mask.

They are idiots.

Literally nobody is harmed by the vaccine.
I am not advocating for or against vaccination. It is a personal decision whether or not one gets the vaccine. Only 50-60 % of the U.S. Military are vaccinated. Are you calling them idiots? If you make a decision without considering the risks then there may be some truth to your idiot label. I read the FDA approval document. I suggest you do the same. Your declaration that "literally no one is harmed by the vaccine" is false based on information contained in the FDA approval document.

Respectfully, anyone who still believes this is a personal choice without broader societal ramifications is an idiot.

And anyone who believes there aren't consequences to "either side" of the personal choice ladder will be up for a rude awakening.

There are risks to taking the vaccine as well as not taking the vaccine! Line them up based on your perspective of life and keep it moving!

My local hospitals are running out of ICU beds and things are only expected to get worse. Even though a lot of people are getting vaccinated it's still not enough ... it's so strange seeing more people pushing towards going back to normal with the pandemic still raging.

We need another lockdown but it's not gonna happen ... yea this sucks but it is what it is.

Yes, there are risks with any medication/vaccine you take, but some of y’all act like the risk of the vaccine are equal to or just as bad as COVID when it’s clearly not. There is enough data to indicate that the virus is not only harmful but deadly. Tremendously deadly. And we know that even survival doesn’t exempt many from long term permanent damage, something we talk very little about. These vaccines have been tested and analyzed and documented more than any vaccine in modern medical history. Do people/have people suffered side effects or worse from the vaccine? Sure. But millions of people have died and been permanently disabled from COVID. When weighing the risks, they simply aren’t the same or equally bad.

See, I don't think we need anymore lockdowns aside from schools that have kids under 12. Adults have made their decisions to simply risk their health and lives by not getting vaccinated.

We can't keep catering society to these people. Let them suffer the consequences. Its not like lockdowns prevent future spread anyway.

The Lt. Gov. in Texas is a racist and his claim about unvaccinated Black pepole has been thoroughly debunked with actual data.

i debunked his claim on this very board long before he ever made his statement and didn’t have to wait on any data to do it. Common sense should’ve told you what he said wasn’t true. Except he’s not the only one saying it. Lotta people with big platforms are saying the same.

But it’s not about the truth and it never was, which is what I tried to explain to you all. They’re gonna use covid to put in more social controls on Black people everywhere. We will be looked at and treated as the unvaxxed whether we’re vaccinated or not. And as the restrictions began to be implemented across the country we will be the ones disproportionately harassed and made to prove our vaccination status.

did you read what I said about Mike Gallagher? That lie he told his millions of listeners had nothing to do with data, but everything to do with an agenda being pushed.

I see alotta Black people running around wishing death on the “unvaxxed” or talking about how they should be denied medical care. Something white people would say. They’re gonna be in for a helluva rude awakening pretty soon is all I can tell you, when it gets cold and these hospitals are overwhelmed for real and they start making decisions on who’s going to be treated/admitted and who’s going to be sent back home. We saw it all last year before the vaccines came out and the internet is full of the stories. Black people, vaxxed or not, are gonna be assed out again.

You don't get to label people idiots because they choose not to take the vaccine. Just be happy with your decision to take it. A little over 11% or 38M of the United States population of 333M have been infected by the virus. I believe the number of infected is much higher. Many that were asymptomatic did not get tested. The number of deaths from Covid, 630K, is less than 1% of the U.S. population at .00189. I agree, the vaccine could have prevented many of those deaths. Based on the infection and mortality data one could deduce that the majority of U.S. Citizens' immune systems don't require a vaccination and can wear a mask, social distance, eat healthy and practice cleanliness instead. Are the unvaccinated taking a risk? Yes, but it is their risk to take. The fact that the vaccinated can still get infected and infect others is not helping increase the vaccination rate.
