Southland May blow up

Man any school in the SWAC would be silly to entertain a move to the Southland. Don’t throw a life line to another conference.

No SWAC life lines to the remnants of the SLC. You guys will want them for out of conference games (not saying you can’t play the new WAC either!) but going to or adding them does

Would the Swac look at adding some of the Southland other sports like Golf and Tennis as associate members since they would be impacted more with the loss of those Texas schools and since every Swac school doesn't carry those sports?

they'll be alright - you don't want anymore bid stealers. Even in those leagues there's a perception between public and private and our state is better than yours. ACU goes along for the ride case they spend money and bridges a gap for Tarleton

That could be an interesting situation.

The Southland will actually lose its automatic bid in men's tennis, men's golf and women's golf if the Texas institutions & Central Arkansas leave as anticipated (plus the recent elimination of men's and women's golf at McNeese State). It may be a good fit if the school(s) are so inclined to pursue it.

Not an issue in the WAC though! :)

No

There's one or two people on Southland Conference social media that are clamoring about Texas Southern & Prairie View A&M going to a 'new look' Southland with the schools that are remaining in the league. Apparently they are pointing at a CollegeAD story (its a reputable site used by college administrators, behind a paywall) that references a "Southland source".

I think the one thing we know for sure is that the Southland (or people representing the league) at one point reached out to both Texas Southern & Prairie View A&M to gauge interest in joining the league. May have been multiple times and I'm sure C-Leb can tell us. May have been more recent.

Either way, I think it's a non-story and probably reflective of a prior reach out. Just making sure this group knows I think this way and the one or two yahoos are not reflective of all of us (at least in this instance! ;))

I think the Southland's only path to building back up is through Div II schools and trying to see if they can get any of the Lonestar Conference or Gulf South Conference institutions to join. They've got to start with football schools to make the scheduling work and get more conference games across the board. A secondary consideration - there's also a few sports (men's tennis, men's golf and women's golf) that are on the verge of losing their automatic bids if the four Texas institutions & Central Arkansas leave by July 1, 2022 as has been reported.

How likely is the Southland to attract PV and sTu?

When you’re desperate and with Hampton and A&T breaking the barrier they need a major splash. You can’t hope D2 schools will move up so you take this option:

Southland is basically shot in Texas so you try to pair TSU and PV together hoping they’ll bite but no president at TSU doesn’t help. PV could feel pressure from A&M to speak with them but the league as a whole isn’t attractive enough to move in its current state.

So you counter and make a deal for Southern-Grambling and that opens some eyes as you let them keep the BC at the date. Now you May see TSU-PV chances of landing them improve as you can dangle those two and keep important football rivalries.

Or if you think Texas ain’t a priority anymore you get SU-GSU but go after JSU-Alcorn.

Now this is based on football where you could generate some interest- but there are other sports where it wouldn’t be beneficial to leave as if your a punching bag in the swac you would be permanent punching bags.

As of now the swac has the power and the eyeballs. Unless the SLC offers the deal of a lifetime just keep call block on.

I get this feeling it's more about TX and Louisiana schools. All the LA schools are still in the conference. If you get TXSU' PVAM SU and GSU package deal!!! with NWST, SELA, NICHOLLS, McNesse State, and UNO (non football)

With a Panther currently leading the SWAC to greater heights, PV is not going to the Southland. If the Southland wasn't good enough for SHSU,SFA, Lamar then its certainly not for us.
