Should Alcorn be Allowed to Practice During Spring for Fall?


No if you opted out due to covid concerns what sense does it make too still be allowed to practice and lift weights in an environment that can raise covid-19 consumption... make it make sense? Alcorn going out like chumps...

Wow. That is quite an interesting take. Would be curious to know how Dr. McClelland --- or any of the numerous ADs, administrators, and coaches nationwide --- would respond to such an assertion. But carry on.

I don’t know ask the MEAC commissioner who just suspended spring football weeks after saying the league had adapted to prepare for a football season in a pandemic.

It's simply because they haven't been able to punish Alcorn on the field. This is their chance for get back.

Alcorn has the right to opt out per NCAA guidelines not because of proof of covid but because of concern of covid safety.

Yep. This certainly is about not being able to "punish a team on the field", coming from someone repping a team that chose 3 weeks prior to the start of a season NOT to compete on the field.

And since this is all about safety, you have called the Alcorn AD, asking him to please cancel the season for all Braves teams currently competing in Spring sports and to cease ALL team activities, right?

Honestly the question is irrelevant
Alcorn has not broken any rules, what exactly is the SWAC membership upset about? Alcorn is doing just what Norfolk and NCCU has done. Alcorn cannot be pressured to play per NCAA guidelines

The NCAA Board of Governors has directed schools and conferences to meet specific requirements if they are to conduct NCAA fall sports during the preseason, regular

We are worried about sporting events and many school districts around this country are struggling just to get our children "half" educated...most university classes are virtual or totally online programs. Even this transition from in class learning at the university level will have consequences. There will be a 3-5 year gap of students who are not prepared for society. Once standardize testing is back implemented we will see the impact at every level.

You may say....what does this have to do with Alcorn opting out (which is their choice to do so with or without consequences)......I think we may be missing out on the big picture for our universities (and schools in general) to make sure the education provided to our children will allow them to have an opporrunity to succeed in this world.

My only point is that we need to have this same passion about making sure our children, relatives, etc. are getting the proper education they will need to survive once the pandemic has passed. Making sure our schools are able to do this "effectively" is bigger priority for me personally. We don't need any opportunities to pass our children by because they were not academically prepared.
 
At the end of the day, schools will need to do what is in their best interest. Covid ain't going nowhere anytime soon. So we need to get used to living with it like we live with the basic flu! Take precautions, isolate where necessary and build up your immunity via foods and exercise. Its time for us to take control back over our lives.
 
Or is the President making some of these calls?????? A female???? Maybe don't understand. If you can play close contact sports such as basketball and also track. Probably the least contact sports are tennis, baseball and bowling.

Truth be told, the commissioner is going to have to take some action that will not be popular among all teams, in an effort to level the playing field between those teams that opt out of Spring football and those that don't. Alcorn State is in a different position than FAMU and BCU. By opting out, Alcorn has caused the entire schedule to be rearranged, and has caused some schools to lose revenue that can't fill the void left by their opting out. FAMU and BCU are not currently members of the SWAC and are not scheduled to become members until, July, 2021. It is not clear how much control, if any, the conference has over them at this point. But one thing is clear; those teams that have opted out won't be as banged up as teams that participate. And that is where the problem lies; that is where the playing field is not level.

All SWAC teams will have spring practice, difference is, Alcorn will be playing against themselves, no opponents. ;)
