Should Alcorn be Allowed to Practice During Spring for Fall?

Why? The provision was for teams "not participating" in Fall sports (i.e. a league sanctioned season). I could be mistaken, but the implication is that the provisions are in place to govern team activities during an "Off Season" period. Spring 2021 is clearly not an "Off Season" for SWAC Football teams.

That said, I see nothing inconsistent with the NCAA baring a team that voluntarily is opting out of an active league season --- particularly for reasons of health and safety --- from engaging in regular team activities during said season.
 



My two cents. Alcorn has decided to opt out which hurts the swac collective. Because of the damage that is done to the collective the Alcorn braves need to be limited on what they can do outside of the collective. Meaning that during this season of spring football in order not to play you also are not allowed to practice.

Feel how you want about ALCORN opting out of the season but where is this scared stuff coming from?? How many in conference teams beat ALCORN last year?? If you don’t know it was 1, Gram, not SU not A&M so again what is ALCORN scared of??? An to be frank coach has said all along that he wasn’t for playing in the Spring and turning around and playing in the Fall!!!

Is this an actual quote/statement? I ask since McNair and his staff were actively preparing the team for Spring football. If what you're indicating is true, it makes this "11th hour" opt out decision all the more shady.
 
FAMU, BCU and Alcorn should be disqualified for a Fall SWAC title opportunity since they'll be fresher than the rest of the conference

Others schools playing doesn’t mean Alcorn or any other school should play. Nobody really should be playing right now if we’re honest. The conference throwing together a six game season and hoping for the best doesn’t seem like a plan to me but oh well.

If COVID is preventing a team from playing maybe just maybe the conference should re-examine if it’s safe for any school to play at all. But McClelland and the SWAC too damn stubborn. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise considering all those basketball games got canceled because of COVID issues and the season is still going on. The SWAC don’t give a shit about the health of athletes all the same as the Power 5 conferences.

Alcorn only can engage in 12 hours of football activity per week. They are being limited in what they can do.

Covid cases are down more than half over the last month. If you want to wait til its all gone, you'll never see SWAC football again...

Cases dropping from horrifyingly bad to still bad doesn’t mean its all good, either. And we probably should want cases to be nearly eradicated so that athletes won’t feel like the only safe place for them is on campus instead of at the crib.

That expectation is both practically and scientifically impossible. Either "Trust the Science" regarding COVID protocols is real or it's not.

Tell that to countries that have case counts so low that their governments aren't suggesting citizens should wear two masks when out in public.

The thing is nobody has really trusted science in America. If we did, the US wouldn't lead the world in cases and deaths.

Fairness would dictate that the conference initiate constraints on those programs that are foregoing Spring football relative to the Covid19 crisis in an effort to level gridiron competition in the Fall.

COVID protocols will likely be in effect for most collegiate and younger athletes well into 2022, simply because that target demographic is likely not to receive the a vaccine until late 2021, early 2022. So if there is a fear of athletes/staff contracting COVID now, they will probably need to make the same argument to opt out of the Fall 2021 season. Think that's going to happen?

The bottom line is that if Alcorn is truly concerned about COVID and the safety of football players and staff, then be consistent and cancel ALL Spring '21 sports activities --- including training and meetings. To do otherwise is disingenuous.

The thing is that McClelland said the SWAC anticipates games in the spring likely will be impacted by COVID. If that's the case why the heck ya'll want to throw the book at one school without questioning why the conference is willing to let all these people and athletes get exposed in the first place.
