Should Alcorn be Allowed to Practice During Spring for Fall?

Southern University AD Banks doesn't think so. Why should Alcorn be allowed to practice in Spring for the Fall football season while the other SWAC teams are getting banged up playing against each other? Banks is even upset that SU has to give refunds for the scheduled Alcorn home game.

This is all they should be allowed to do per the NCAA rules

Hell naw lol

They practiced in the fall (I know they werent allowed to do so with coaches but come on). There has to be SOME type of punishment for the way they left the rest of the SWAC in a bind. I agree with Coach Maynor and Banks

To be precise, aren't these guidelines in place for what would be understood as "off season" (i.e. "Spring) training? Currently, SWAC football does not have an "off season" this particular Spring. But even if we determine that a school is "allowed" to practice per NCAA guidelines, this has more to do with principle. If the decision not to play in league sanctioned games is due to "COVID-19" risks to players, coaches, etc., then it makes absolutely no sense to continue participating in regular activities that will place those same individuals at risk.

If you simply don't want to play league games and would rather just practice, so be it. Just don't say you're doing this due to COVID-19.

This is the fall season, in the spring. So, in that regard, I do agree w/ coach Maynor and Mr Banks. They shouldn't be allowed to practice DURING the season. Every school in the SWAC is practicing gearing up for the season, this spring.

So, will the SWAC now allow a school to cite inability to function as to the reason why they should be allowed to practice/convene during a fall season as well? lol

Cannot have it both ways. There is no "off-season" occurring right now. It's only the actual season.

Brilliant answer! Absolutely brilliant!

All this crap is bull from alcorn representatives ( coaches, A.D., and etc.) With all the traning Fred McNair and his coaching staff have in football, I'm sure they could've gotten those players in shape for football with there knowledge of the game. All they had to do was be a trainer for the spring and hire someone for the fall to be a trainer. Hell thats football 101. Thats what our head coach did in high school. He was our trainer, track coach, and head football coach. Come out the woods alcorn and tell the truth.

They hadn't been practicing or conditioning much after winter break because of COVID outbreaks. That was part of the reason they didn't want to play the season (in addition to not having a trainer until just a few weeks ago).

No excuse, they were just neglectful and did not prepare. Most schools had their position coaches assigned to a group of players with scheduled zoom calls for workouts that they had to do, that's called discipline, unfortunately Alcorn was not!

Meeting on Zoom doesn't replace not being able to practice or use facilities to workout.

With the NCAA's approval, Dr. McClelland should instruct all teams that are voluntarily opting out of league sanctioned in-season Spring games due to COVID19 issues to cease ALL organized team activities (not limited to, but including practicing, training/conditioning, film study, etc.) for the remainder of the Spring 2021.

Why would the NCAA allow that when the Division I Council in the fall voted to approve all programs not participating (in fall sports) to have a work schedule that consisted of 12 hours per week for sport-related activities? I would think that also applies to the spring, too.
