MegaChurch Pastor Found Dead in Times Square Hotel Had Drugs

So much I could say about this and other similar situations that I would not know where to start. I will just say this, for every Pastor or Preacher that may have fallen to sin in front of us, there are still many Pastors and Preachers that are walking in integrity. Believe that...Pray for your Pastors and Preachers that you know but put your trust in God, always...

Why? It could have been a trial he was going through. Maybe, if it was drugs, he could have made it through and added to his testimony. Pastors are still people. They are allowed to fall and get back up too.
Pastors ARE very much people, with all of the vulnerabilities that come along with being human. HOWEVER, the Bible holds us to a higher standard (1 Tim 3; Titus 1) than the laity and certainly to a higher standard than those are are unregenerated.

Superbly stated. Thanks.

Yes. Co-sign.

Unfortunately people don't pray for them. They wait for 4 or 5 of them to fall and then say, "See! I told ya! that's why i Don't go to church. That's why i think ALL pastors with big congregations are pimps...."

Trust me, this board has proven that the expectation for a christian to pray for another brother / sister who screwed up is a CRAZY idea to most. God is like smh...

Overcome issues and challenges....there is a church here in Ruston where the pastor has not gone to theology but his members are fed the message. I'm just not a mega church fan....you don't receive that special touch in my opinion.

For instance can a member of TD Jakes church walk up to him and ask to speak in private....
Why would a member need to speak with him in private? That's what staff is for. This was not a necessity for Moses, David, Jesus, Paul, or other of God's leaders. Jesus ministry was very effective, even when he was standing on the boat teaching 1000s on the beach (mega church) without him needing to speak with the crowd indivdually in private.

Remember, Moses appointed 'other' people to handle that private stuff - which is why these churches have 50 programs & small meeting groups & staff at their church for stuff like that.

What the hell? If a member wants to speak with their PASTOR, they should be able to. I wouldn't dare go to a church where my pastor wasn't accessible. He can't be everywhere and spends lots of time on one person, but every now and then, a pastor (NOT just his staff) should be able to make time for ANY of his members. If he can't make time, he shouldn't pastor.

I just don't feel like getting into any religious debates at this time. Too close to football season. Good feelings in the air.

But, if I did, this would be the one ....

Right! :lmao:
Glad I have the kind of pastor where I can bypass "his staff" and just shoot him an email directly, and he responds. So if I need to meet with HIM (not a rep/staff), I can get on his calendar, and he KNOWS my name.

Yes, there may be times when a pastor can't get away, because he's juggling multiple things. But that's bull to ask/say, "what you need to speak to the pastor for (when he has a staff)?" :xeye: If I'm a member (especially not just some pew warmer), I should be able to see the man who prays over my soul when and if I need to.

:snicker: When it comes to man-made religions, elevated equates to pure vanity.

I agree with this, (minus the man-made religions comment) but only to the extent that if the pastor, preacher, minister, etc elevates themselves.
My "elevated" comment was more about the people of the church "elevating" the people in those position. So DA thanks for the scriptural reference to the fact that a church "LEADER" is held to a higher standard, but you know as well the rest of us that there are those who esteem themselves higher then they should. Can we say "a lack of or no humility".

Man I'll cuss the pastor out just like I would anyone else if he pisses me off. He ain't God. Besides all he gone do is just like the other church folks, eat chicken, cakes, pies and gossip. Church is where you get all the good gossip at. Who cheating, going thru a divorce, who child locked up, who using dope.

You all have been saying this since slavery! Has anything really changed?

The only thing that has changed is the funny bunny population exploded. Bunnies just hopping around and munching on carpet all over the place. Sickening I tell you. :vomit:

This is great. I am glad that it works for you. There are other pastoral models that exist for larger churches.

Many mega-churches have pastors (paid/non-paid) over groups of members of the congregation. Yes, meetings can still be scheduled with the senior pastor, but the vast majority of interaction occurs with a designated pastor of the staff. That person knows you and your family, meets with you periodically during the year just to keep tabs on what is going on with you and how you are interacting in small groups and ministries of the church. That person is your direct link to things pastoral.

I am not a huge fan of mega-churches, but they can be very effective when organized VERY well.

I don't attend a mega church. It's not a store-front either. But it's small enough to where my pastor is very accessible/approachable and big enough to where I can mind my own business.
