Just a thought about who should be Alcorn's Next Head Football Coach.

Re: Pete Richardson

This is all I could find. I think he is a great coordinator, but Alcorn needs a strong Head Coach.

A 1975 graduate of Florida State University, where he was a quarterback on the Seminole Football Team, Orlando went on to become a member of the Florida A&M coaching staff that won the first Division I-AA National Championship in 1981. Orlando served as the Rattlers' offensive coordinator for six seasons, then moved on to Tennessee State University as offensive coordinator for four seasons, prior to collaborating with Pete Richardson at Winston-Salem State University in 1991.

As a quarterbacks coach, Orlando steered some of the Southern University Jaguars top passers, with Bryant Lee topping the list, along with Eric Randle, Marcus Jacoby, and Terrence Levy. Southern won five SWAC Championships and three HBCU National Championships during his tenure at SU.

Orlando earned his Bachelor's Degree from Florida State in 1975 and his master's degree from Florida A&M in 1984.

Re: Pete Richardson

As I've stated, Pete may have gotten that hunger back from a year off from football. But, if he or Orlando is hired as Alcorn's Head Coach, I won't hang myself like 95% of Jaguar Nation did with Stump. He won't do it in year one because recruiting will be shot (unlike Stump though, I feel Pete or Orlando will not put Alcorn out there by stating "12-0", "Run The Football" etc.)

Re: Pete Richardson

Well Here Is why I picked Cole.

Coach L.C. Cole has a career in coaching that spans more than twenty-six years and includes positions as head coach for three seasons at Alabama State University and four years at Tennessee State University; assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Lane College, Concordia University – St. Paul; and Morgan State University. He served as assistant head coach at the University of Cincinnati; He also has seven years of experience at five universities: Eastern Michigan, University of Toledo, University of Wisconsin, Kansas State University, Ball State University, and New Mexico State University.

While at ASU, in 2000 the team shared the SWAC’s South West Division Championship and won the division championship in 2001.

Cole has an outstanding record of achievement. While at Tennessee State University, the only HBCU in the Ohio Valley Conference, the football team earned back-to-back conference championships in 1998 and 1999. In 1999 TSU was the only undefeated Division 1-AA team at the conclusion of the regular season. TSU had the second longest regular season winning streak (20-0), and impressive defensive stats – first in passing, second in rushing and fourth in total defense.
Cole was named the Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999, and the 1998-99 GTE Regional Coach of the Year. In 1999 he was also named the American Football Coach’s Division 1-AA National Coach of the Year, Street & Smith’s Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year and TeamLink.Com’s Division 1-AA National Coach of the Year. In 1998 he was the recipient of the Pig Skin Club’s John W. Posey Award, the Rutherford Spirit Award and the Lester “Brute” Hayes Athletic Award.
In addition to the impressive stats on the field, while at Tennessee State Cole was successful in increasing the graduation rate among his student-athletes. During his tenure the graduation rate increased from 17% – 98%.
Cole played strong safety for the New York Jets. At the college level he was recognized with numerous awards and honors including Player of the Week, AFA First-Team Outside Linebacker and All-Big Eight Team Defensive End.
Cole graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

He was also captain or either co-captain of the Nebraska team.

Re: Pete Richardson

What about certain hof coach that has history winning in the post-season? This gentleman had success beating likes of Eddie Robinson, Willie Jefferies, Rick Comegy, James Carson, Pete Richardson, Bill Burgess,Ken Sparks, Jerry Moore, Larry Blankney, Terry Bowden, L.C. Cole, Bill Hayes and Willie Slater.. His offense gave defensive coordinators fits during his time at Central State and FAMU.. Yea, several of his former quarterbacks did played in CFL and NFL... Air Canda would fit perfectly in the Gulf Coast Offense and under the tutledge of this great coach..

Re: Pete Richardson

Bring back Ernest Jones, now that Alcorn have a new AD maybe he will leave Univ of Cincy again and come back home.

Braveheart, My sources tell me that ALL THE PLAYERS INCLUDING THE QB WANTS........................................ THE CURRENT O.C. MICHEAL ARMOUR!!!!!!!!!!! Who I think would be a great choice he work for Johnnie Cole at Lane, He is a hell of a Recuiter I just saw him at my school in Houston a couple of weeks ago and he is young he has been there the kids love playing for him just ask Jacoby Jones by the way I hope he gets his chance Im tired of the same old names coming up I believe this guy can do it!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Alcorn,

You don't want Pete, Spears, Cole, Billy Joe, McKenzie or any of these other re-treads we keep hearing about. All of these guys aren't currently head coaches for a reason. Orlando might be a decent look. JSU's OC and DC wouldn't be bad looks either. We played our best game of the season with them on the sideline and Comegy in a hotel room. But these are only looks, don't hire anyone until you've done a thorough search. I'm sure your AD knows this.

Key Word: WANTS. The Players wanted Ernest Collins. They Players want someone they can be buddies with a do things like skip practice, talk on the cellphone with their girlfriend, etc. The players need a coach who will get in their faces and except no excuses for not making plays. They wanted the same thing when Ernest Jones left. The players should be happy they are at least in college on an athletic scholarship. It's not about what they want, It's what they need.

Same old recycled names from the same short list.

Why not Give instate OKRA or Millsaps coaches a look. :noidea:
They have proven they can win.
Just saying.

Alcorn should give Spears a chance. I think he will have them rolling.

Serious question: do you think Alcorn could afford Coach Spears?

This would be my ideal coaching staff for Alcorn in 2011:

Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator: Mark Orlando OR Pete as HC and Orlando as OC
WRs Coach: Eric Dooley (I believe that if Pete or Orlando coach, He will leave SU)
RBs Coach: Shawn Gregory
OL Coach: Cedric Pearl
QBs Coach: Michael ArmourDefensive Coordinator: Darren Hayes
Defensive Line Coach: (To Be Determined)
Secondary Coach: Calvin Greene (Secondary Coach at Co-Lin and Alcorn Alum)
LBs Coach: LC Cole

I mentioned Coach Armour in another thread. Honestly, I think he'd be a really good fit for Alcorn.:) He just needs to maintain the discipline of the team (on and off the field).

Alcorn was paying Collins 140K. They can afford Spears.

Yes, but wasn't Coach Spears earning more at Grambling? And I wonder what was his salary while at TXSU? Not that any of this matters.

Oh well, again, congratulations to Coach Collins and his new team. Hope the new coach works out for Alcorn........will be very interesting to see who the new pick will be.

Re: Pete Richardson

^^^^^see what I'm talking about...:lmao: Just the very thought of Pete coaching an opposing SWAC team against SU will start Hell on Earth in Baton Rouge. The Jaguar Nation would officially be divided if Pete beat Stump on that date.

I like it, HBO might would do their first ever Hard Knocks featuring a SWAC team

Those damn street committee's will get you everytime if you let them. I bet since they got their way at Lane, they aint got nothing to say after the school actually listened to them on hiring their pick. LOL. Probably blame the school for the hire.
