MACH, since this thread is about the "city of SHREVEPORT". Also because it is you who asked, I will tell you.

Friday upon arrival, I check in. Then it is on the "We Never Close" in slidell. Meet with family (I have a uncle that speaks at the job fair every year).

Friday night battle of the bands, and afterward go to the Hilton to visit family, friends and hang. Stop doing the club scene along time ago. So me and my wife walk through the down town streets of N.O. looking for new GSU that I don't already have and tasting food. I always pass on the pagent have access to tickets if need be though, still enjoy the battle of bands. As far as the celeb parties. Access is not an issue there either. I have a good friend that is in the radio business so as soon as we touch down in N.O. he is on the phone with "wild wayne" and other A & R lining things up if we choose to go. A lot of times we don't go because we have such a good time among friends that we have not seen in a while. We actually turn down mo siht to do than a little bit.

Saturday is game day. Go to the game, side lines passes(NBC field jacket) if I want them. I have not used them in about 5 yrs, I had two sitting in my lap as I watched the game last year. After the game shop and eat. N.O. access is not a issue for me. Not to mention I have good good drank in my room alone with a siht load of room service kicking it with friends and kicking aZZ on the play station. When my POPs was alive it was worst than that so I have had my fair share of fun in N.O.

Not to mention one of my Best friends wife is from N.O. so that is ALWAYS an invite over for some real cajun cooking when they are in town for the game!

Early Sunday Morning I head back to Shreveport tell my family bye and head back I-20 west!

Ray in short, there is not enough time during that weekend for me to do ALL the things that I can do. This is short version.

I was making a comparitive study, on a real small scale. I hear people say there is nothing to do in Shreveport so I decided to ask what it is they do in New Orleans. But to be perfectly honest with you. This is the same thing that can be done in Shreveport. There are many people who have never been to Shreveport for an event or haven't been there in a long time. Things have changed some for the good and for the bad. (I believe Shreveport was the 3rd or 4th largest city in Louisiana) It won't be the same as New Orleans, everyone knows that. But some how we seem to forget that people have been getting killed, robbed, arrested, drunk, car jacked, over charged in New Orleans for the past 31 years. I am sure with what has happened in the gulf region that Shreveport will be looked to handle the bulk of the tourism and events. (The Bayou Classic, Sugar Bowl, Mardi Gras, Essence festival, Saints, Hornets, Voodoo, and Louisiana based conventions, etc..) Should they all leave too.????

One question, the crime rate is better in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta than it is in Shreveport, that is all I want answer and to be honest with you, why don't you pm me your answer, cause I take it to heart what people say about Shreveport, I have a good job, and consider myself well off, but for your information I still live in my childhood home five streets down from I-20, so I'm a stones throw away from Independence Stadium. If these young AA males and females get their butts up and get a job, they can't start at the top and the jobs that are being offered they don't want, but if they got up and got jobs the isht that is going here would not be going on, half of these young AA men and women are doing just want they want to do nothing, but cause confusing, right as we are typing in replies to one another on this board they are causing confusion between us here on TSPN. Every city has crime and people are killing, stealing, carjacking and so...I'm sorry you have had heartache in your family and among your friends, but God almaighty will heal all. A very good friend of mind was killed June 11, 2005 senseless act of violence, a 24 year old AA male shot him in the chest with an AK-47, he was only 40 years old, I still grieve about that, it hurts and everytime I close my eyes and I see this fool firing that dang rifle. Super Safe Sunday shouldn't have never happen in the first place, thugs don't need a place to go, I for one feel like a hostage in my own home, cause on Sundays I could go to the local store to get a soda or whatever cause of these thugs, I for one was against Super Safe Sunday, but I could go on, just pm me...

MsGSU I will PM you a little later. :)

Cool Mach, it is all love. I am really speaking on behalf of the vistors. If the B.C. is held in Shreverport, I consider myself a host. Right now as a host I don't feel like the city of Shreveport can handle it. If the local youth can shut down Jewella Ave on Sundays acting a d@mn fool, there is NO way the city of Shreveport could handle the traffic the B.C. might generate. MsGSU stated she feels like a prisoner in her on home. You should have ventured to Shreveport on a Sunday before they tried to organize "Super Safe Sunday" and you will know exactly what she is saying and what she means. It is not about me not having anything to do in Shreveport, it is the visitors. I would want the majority to leave Shreveport saying they had a good time.

Now there are some rude white folks here, just like there are rude white folks in the French Quarters, I have encountered some very rude white folks in New Orleans, and there are some rude black folks. And I refuse to let you all talk about Shreveport cause I live here and work here everyday and there is nothing wrong with Shreveport. On a personal note, I could care less if there is nothing for you all to do after or before the game, I actually go to the game to see the game and not trying to do anything else. So if by some chance Shreveport does host the game come see and leave and go back to your cities where you will have plenty to do....

This will be a little difficult because, I am from Shreveport. But, I will be there this friday. TRU2GSU, what time are we pulling OUT of Shreveport, Saturday morning?

Now MsGSU, I am a native of Shreveport, Louisiana.(Lived off of Cooper Road and raised in Lakeside/Allendale.) My Dad, Mom, Grandmother, and 'Nem still live there. It is my hometown and I agree with you 100%, there is some good in Shreveport and there is bad, as well. I am quite sure that 70% of the students that you taught, took the knowledge that you gave them, attended college, and earned college degrees, do not reside in Shreveport anymore. Because, there are not many oppurtunities, in that city, for them.(But, that is another topic, that we can PM each other on. ;))
There are rude people, black and white, here in Houston, S'port, NO and everywhere else.(Just like every city in the US of A.) Just like you, I could care less about walking around before or after the Bayou Classic, I am there for the Game and the Game only.(That game is one of the joys of my life, win or lose.) I do not feel that Shreveport would be good host for an event on that level. Neither the city nor the surrounding areas have the resources to accommodate that many people. You and I both know that the Classic is more than game. The attendance was 69k last year. There were 5 times as many people that came for the event and didn't care about the game. But rather than have guest or visitors come to my hometown, with expectations of going to "The Classic" and leaving with a very negative view of the city, I would rather they just have it on one of the campuses and make it about the game. I hope that I get to meet you in Grambling, next weekend.

TRU2GSU, will I get my shrimp platter, from Pete Harris' cafe, next weekend? My stomach is touching my back, from waiting.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

This is my dilemma. Right now, my mom's house is still standing but where she lives pretty much relies on New Orleans to survive. I don't know when I can get home to see my mom again. It's terrible! Thanks for those of you who are praying and helping support those of us who were born and raised in New Orleans deal with the fact that the place I and so many other people call home is NO MORE!

That is all that I am saying. I am not talking about the crime in Shreveport, I would have to call you on that subject MsGSU, my fingers would fall off, trying to PM you on that subject. When you are invited to my home, I am trying to make the experience so nice and relaxing, that you will not want to leave or in a hurry to get back. The Bayou Classic patrons will not leave Shreveport with that feeling. The city can not handle this event. I will PM as well.

How can they handle an Independence Bowl Game with the SEC/Big 12 fans, but not the Bayou Classic? All of the fans from the two respective schools have to stay in Hotels and eat in Restaurants all over SBO. The Indy Bowl also sells out in S'Port, just as I'd expect the BC to do.

You and TRU2GSU would have very solid arguements if the Indy Bowl did not exist.

Co-sign, I'm here day in and day out, I know what the city can handle and what the city can't handle, those 2 are long gone and only come home every now and then. Trust me on this one, if the city of Shreveport has put out the invite, the powers that be are already coming up with the solutions to handle all of your traffic concerns and so forth..this is something that you can take to the bank..but you all know what, we are just talking cause when it comes right down to the decisions we really don't have a say, we will be having this discussion in about 1 month after the decision has been made as to where the BC will be played, whether its Shreveport or Houston I will be there, and once the game is over I can also go back home. There are going to be some happy people with the decision and there are going to be some disappointed people with the decision. Everybody is not going to be happy with whatever the decision is. Right now from the looks of things and all these hotels being full from Baton Rouge to Houston, from Shreveport to Dallas, from Monroe to Memphis, and so on, you might just want the BC as close to your home as possible so you can see the game and go back home.. Oh my bad, you have people here. :swink:

The differance becomes a black and white issue. Shreveport, Louisiana is geared toward white people! If you don't believe, look at south Shreveport and you will see the "white flight".

I have been waiting on this question.

The Independence Bowl only attracts the fans from the participating schools. That game may have 45,000 attending(that's if the game sells out) and if you did not drive by Independence Stadium, you would know that game was going on in Shreveport. (The Shreveport Times give you updates and you can watch it on ESPN2.)

We are talking about the "Bayou Classic."(The SUPERBOWL of Black College Football) Only, second to the Super Bowl in attracting fans to the city of New Orleans just off of name, alone. Hundreds of thousands of beautiful black people coming into that city, just to be in "The City" for that weekend and will not attend the game. Partying, dining, shopping, and just hanging in the city because it's the "Bayou Classic." New Orleans is used to accommodating these types of events, not Shreveport.
If this game attracted just students and alums of Southern and Grambling alone, then Shreveport would probably be the next best choice. Because you would have a nice sized stadium, hotels and restaurants to accommodate that amount of people. And for the record, the game has been held in Shreveport before.

MsGSU, I am not long gone from Sherveport. I am in Shreveport VERY often and I am very much in tune with what is going on in the city of Shreveport. That is why it is hard breaking to see the state that Shreveport is in. Remember the "red light district"? Bossier improved and came up with the boardwalk. We are not even going to speak on the "unspoken" dress code for the boardwalk. But I will PM as soon as my time permits.

I'm so happy for the boardwalk dress code, I don't want to see your drity drawers when I'm there shopping or eating, thank God, for the dress code, all they are trying to do is bring dignity back. As the preacher says on sundays, I'm preaching to the lights....

Don't be suprise in the next 5 years if Bossier City doesn't have its own stadium. But food for thought, you can't play that isht that you play in New Orleans or even Shreveport and think the po po are going to look away...

MsGSU, Jukebox89 and I very well dressed young men as well as neatly groomed. But we are in era where hip hop rules. His son nor my nephew wear shorts are jeans hanging off their aZZ but I bet you some of there clothing (ie jerseys and baggy jeans) will caused them to be harrased. These are good kids that come from good homes. Should that be subject to harrassment because of what they are wearing? Jukebox89, Jabber Jaws organized super safe sunday with the Keith Hightower through a 100K city grant. So Jabber want have a hand in that except trying to organize a party or to. LOL

Why in the heck would you want the classic to be played any where near Sherveport/Bossier city.

Hell you might as well have it in Gonzales. At least you could eat and drink as much as you like and the citizens know how to tailgate and party.

isht.

I could care less if the people that only come to NO to party and drink don't show up in Shreveport. Screw 'em and the horse they rode in on. It would be great to have the game between the fans of both schools. I'd rather have 50K GSU/SU fans versus trying to find a place for the rowdy non-HBCU fans clogging of the streets and causing safety problems.
