Re: Keep All Events in LOUISIANA!!!!

What state is in need of the most money right now? Louisiana
What state are the two schools from? Louisiana
Which states have more representation at the classic? Texas

"Do you all realize how much money the City of New Orleans makes off these events?"Sweet, do you realize how much money the 2 schools make off of this game?
Correct, they barely break even. The schools also have to pay the STATE to have the game in terdome. 2 State schools that the STATE double rates on hotels and prices for food so the citizens, fans, and students of the STATE have to pay

"I am sickened by remarks about Texas because some of you are too damn cheap to pay to come to Shreveport."
Sweets, the fans of Grambling and Southern will have the worst experience, ever, if Shreveport hosted this football game.

"It also sickens me that the Saints would rather play in Texas."Because, there isn't another city in Louisana that can host a major event.
"The owners of football teams only sees the "bottom line and will not have his corporate suite holders riding around in a raggedy arsed city."

"We need to tighten and push the powers that be to have the ahtletic events that would have taken place in New Orleans moved or played in LOUISIANA!!!! PERIOD!!!!"
Dude you will not tell a NFL owner where to have HIS football team play a football game and that he cannot make money. This man would rather play his home games across Texas and play, or not have a "Home game" at all, rather than play in Shreveport. That should tell the fans of the "Bayou Classic in Lousiana" something.

"Southern University Posters.....push the President to have the game in Shreveport!!!! Southern Band Members....Push for the game to be in Shreveport....."
You obviously do not know what you are asking for. I challenge you to drive around the city of Shreveport, and you, " with a sane/sober mind," tell me, the SWAC board, and 7 more white people if you would want to have an event, on this level, in the city of Shreveport.( I beg you to drive around that city 1st, then answer this question.) And for the record, Shreveport do not give a d@mn about Grambling and Southern. Trust me! Why haven't Grambling and Southern played a game in Shreveport in the last 3 years?

"make this Bayou Classic the biggest and best one of all. Louisiana needs the morale booster right now."

Well, you'd better pray that this game is moved somewhere other than Shreveport, Louisana. I am from Shreveport and would prefer the one of the schools have the game on their campuses, before they have it to Shreveport.

"Let's push the SAINTS to stay in Louisiana....morale in mothersucker right now!!!"
You are not about to tell that white man what to do with his football team.Push for your boss to move your office to another city.

"but we are too cheap to insure that money stays in the state to help withthis event."
Sweets, what city/state do you currently reside in and pay taxes too?

I hope that I am not misunderstood. I love Louisiana, Shreveport and the city of New Orleans.(I have just donated clothes, blankets, clean towels, money, and organized a food drive in my office for my brothers and sisters from "The City") But there is nothing wrong with having that game played in another state where the two schools can "finally" make a profit and another state can play 1/2 of the proceeds back to the state.

I totally agree

Now hear this.....

I'm breakin' my silence on TSPN. I can't believe that we have the nerve to talk about the dayum Bayou Classic and where it is going to be played at during a time like this. This is beyond sad and I am dissappointed with a select few of posters on here that brought it up. People are stranded in a city that is filled with water with no food, restroom, and clothes on their backs and you are concerned about a dayum game. I love sports just about as much as all of you. IMO, this is much worse than 9/11 and I can't stomach this mess.

I'm disgusted with the governments actions during this crisis. I'm sick and tired with all this air time they receive on CNN, Fox New, and Al - Jazzera (sp?). I want actions instead of all the talk. People are just dying and helpless on the streets. People are looking for a temporary shelter at the Astrodome and they are turned away. This is terrible. I'm here watching footage of New Orleans for the past 3 days and I see a city that I can't believe that is a part of the US. The NO look like a third world country as we speak.

Well, a lot of LA (southern) folks love to travel to Houston (and hate going to Shreveport) Both are about the same distance from BR. I can agree with leave it in the state, but I also see why some folks would say Houston. The game is just a small part of the Bayou Classic experience. A big part of it is the city you are going to. (New Orleans, Houston, Shreveport) now which one dosen't belong.

Houston! I love the city of Houston. One of my favorite cities to visit...but I think you are selling Shreveport short. Granted, I haven't been there in a while but when I did, I enjoyed it. New Orleans has the French Quarter and it's all good...Shreveport doesn't have that, but it does have bars and clubs where you can get just as drunk. There's also entertainment venues at the Casinos...eat, party, and gamble or not.

I'm in favor of Shreveport...There's a better tailgating venue. Something that's really not convenient (or necessary) in Nawlins!

Re: Now hear this.....

Dr Freeze,

I understand your frustration with the entire situation, we're all frustrated, hurt, and concerned. However, nobody on this board has disrespected or neglected the victims of this catastrophe by discussing future sporting events. Everybody on here is doing what they can to contribute to the recovery, whether it be time, money, food, shelter, goods, etc. But these are issues that must be addressed, and not talking about them does not restore what people lost. You can rest assured that the powers that be are discussing things such as this, they have to be sorted out, and in short order. It takes a great deal of planning to pull off such a big event under normal circumstances, just imagine how greater the challenge will be to stage it wherever it occurs. I can understand how you may not be ready to talk about it, but don't blast others who are attempting to regain some sense of normalcy to their lives.

I apologize to all that I put on blast. I keep seeing this clip of a baby sitting on his mother's lap with his mouth open trying to breathe. He looks hungry. That's what put me over the edge. That picture keeps on playing and playing in my mind. Just sad :(

Jukebox89 I am going to piggy back off some of your post and expound a little bit. It is SO VERY TRUE that the city of Shreveport does not give a d@mn about Grambling unless the media is able to publish something negative. When GSU was about the lost their accrediation the media was on campus everyday with a story, interviewing students and the whole nine! Once it was revealed the GSU would keep their accrediation the media was no where to be found. However there was a small clip in the Shreveport times. Which takes me to the Shreverport times! When you click on the sports link they have "LSU & TECH" but Grambling falls under local college sports! That is a slap in the face right there. The city of Shreveport leep frogged over Grambling and went straight to TECH. I have email the Shreveport time on many occassions asking could Grambling have it own link, still waiting on a Got D@mn response!

The city of Shreveport and Grambling's relationship was strained and that was to due in large part to gate receipts and undercounting. In short Grambling felt like they were being cheated(those who are in the know, know what I am talking about). That game has been Fkuc up everysince the city of Shreveport took the game over. I want even get into the merchants of the city of Shreveport. In short, you have a lot of mechants that try to talk down the blacks. You really would have to be from Shreveport to understand what I am saying. If you don't check they aZZ they attempt to speak to you in a way like we are beneath them.

Co "2 tha" sign! If you everybody wants the game to stay in Louisiana, then play at the schools. Trust me, the schools will be better off!

:topic: All of that shopping that we love to do during the Bayou Classic weekend, well , the Shreveport residents drive to Longview, TX to do some halfway decent shopping. And, if they really want to get some good stuff, they go to Dallas. So, with the rude "white folk" talking down to you, driving around a city where there is nothing to do, and driving to Texas to by your outfit, does that really sound like a city where you would want to host "The Bayou Classic."

Oh, and Independece Stadium will gold about 45,000 people if the city were to decide to install the temporary seating. (Maybe, if someone told them that one of the teams were LSU, they would do it without any problems.)

Shreveport offers Independence Stadium as substitute arena
posted: 09-02-2005

Shreveport city officials say they have offered use of Independence Stadium at no charge for football games involving the New Orleans Saints, the Bayou Classic between Grambling and Southern, Tulane University and the high school state championships.

All those football games are played in the Superdome in New Orleans.

So, with the rude "white folk" talking down to you, driving around a city where there is nothing to do, and driving to Texas to by your outfit, does that really sound like a city where you would want to host "The Bayou Classic." Well I hate to burst your bubble, but with the La. Boardwalk in Bossier City, there are plenty of shopping, and there is plenty to do
Oh, and Independece Stadium will gold about 45,000 people if the city were to decide to install the temporary seating. (Maybe, if someone told them that one of the teams were LSU, they would do it without any problems.) And Independence Stadium seats 60,000 not 45,000
Now there are some rude white folks here, just like there are rude white folks in the French Quarters, I have encountered some very rude white folks in New Orleans, and there are some rude black folks. And I refuse to let you all talk about Shreveport cause I live here and work here everyday and there is nothing wrong with Shreveport. On a personal note, I could care less if there is nothing for you all to do after or before the game, I actually go to the game to see the game and not trying to do anything else. So if by some chance Shreveport does host the game come see and leave and go back to your cities where you will have plenty to do....

I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area at least once a month and the white folks over there have to be put in check also..I will make sure I let you know my experience from the State Fair Classic this year.

MsGSU. I don't really think you understand the post. I still have family in Shreveport and NOT having anything to do pre-game and post game wise applies to visitors. Other than the casinos, what else is there? MsGSU, I know you remember "Super Safe Sunday"?? That is no more because it turned into "Super Safeless Sunday". MsGSU you are a retired school teacher or still teaching I can't remember right off. You tell me what are the percentages of a young African American to live the American dream in Shreveport?? I love Shreveport just as much as anybody and that gives me the RIGHT to speak about Shreveport. All my close friends have moved away for a better way of life and we ALL have accomplished that. The two close friends(one being a relative) that remained were both gun down on seperate occassions. One made it and the other will never be the same. This also does not include my close friends and family that are in Grambling.

MsGSU you taught school during a time when a teacher's salary was in the upper crust of Shreveport's blacks, so you did not have to face the challenges of today that African Americans face in shreveport in terms of GOOD employment. By the way, I attend the games to watch the games and socialize with friends and family after the game. :teleport:

MACH, since this thread is about the "city of SHREVEPORT". Also because it is you who asked, I will tell you.

Friday upon arrival, I check in. Then it is on the "We Never Close" in slidell. Meet with family (I have a uncle that speaks at the job fair every year).

Friday night battle of the bands, and afterward go to the Hilton to visit family, friends and hang. Stop doing the club scene along time ago. So me and my wife walk through the down town streets of N.O. looking for new GSU that I don't already have and tasting food. I always pass on the pagent have access to tickets if need be though, still enjoy the battle of bands. As far as the celeb parties. Access is not an issue there either. I have a good friend that is in the radio business so as soon as we touch down in N.O. he is on the phone with "wild wayne" and other A & R lining things up if we choose to go. A lot of times we don't go because we have such a good time among friends that we have not seen in a while. We actually turn down mo siht to do than a little bit.

Saturday is game day. Go to the game, side lines passes(NBC field jacket) if I want them. I have not used them in about 5 yrs, I had two sitting in my lap as I watched the game last year. After the game shop and eat. N.O. access is not a issue for me. Not to mention I have good good drank in my room alone with a siht load of room service kicking it with friends and kicking aZZ on the play station. When my POPs was alive it was worst than that so I have had my fair share of fun in N.O.

Not to mention one of my Best friends wife is from N.O. so that is ALWAYS an invite over for some real cajun cooking when they are in town for the game!

Early Sunday Morning I head back to Shreveport tell my family bye and head back I-20 west!

Ray in short, there is not enough time during that weekend for me to do ALL the things that I can do. This is short version.

One question, the crime rate is better in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta than it is in Shreveport, that is all I want answer and to be honest with you, why don't you pm me your answer, cause I take it to heart what people say about Shreveport, I have a good job, and consider myself well off, but for your information I still live in my childhood home five streets down from I-20, so I'm a stones throw away from Independence Stadium. If these young AA males and females get their butts up and get a job, they can't start at the top and the jobs that are being offered they don't want, but if they got up and got jobs the isht that is going here would not be going on, half of these young AA men and women are doing just want they want to do nothing, but cause confusing, right as we are typing in replies to one another on this board they are causing confusion between us here on TSPN. Every city has crime and people are killing, stealing, carjacking and so...I'm sorry you have had heartache in your family and among your friends, but God almaighty will heal all. A very good friend of mind was killed June 11, 2005 senseless act of violence, a 24 year old AA male shot him in the chest with an AK-47, he was only 40 years old, I still grieve about that, it hurts and everytime I close my eyes and I see this fool firing that dang rifle. Super Safe Sunday shouldn't have never happen in the first place, thugs don't need a place to go, I for one feel like a hostage in my own home, cause on Sundays I could go to the local store to get a soda or whatever cause of these thugs, I for one was against Super Safe Sunday, but I could go on, just pm me...

I agree.

One can shop in S'Port, go to dinner, fellowship with family and friends and we will be able to tailgate in S'Port.

If the rowdy crowd that loves to get into trouble in NO are not happy with Shv, then so what. They don't have to come.

Traffic in Shv will be bad, but hell traffic is horrible in NO on BC weekend as well.
