I had heard he wasn't going to perform but I didn't know why. My question is, if it's just acting as part of a movie role, why should he care? I honestly hope Crunchy Black and the rest of dem 3-6 Mafia boyz get up there Sunday night and act a dayum fool. Why haven't we gotten past this embarrassing a race non-sense.

HOWARD REPORTEDLY TALKED OUT OF SINGING AT OSCARS: Longoria claims Poitier, others said it would be embarrassing for blacks.

(March 3, 2006)

*Terrence Howard was reportedly approached by a number of black stars requesting that the actor turn down the opportunity to perform his Oscar-nominated song from ?Hustle & Flow? during Sunday?s ceremony.

Howard is up for a best actor award for his role as DJay, a Memphis pimp who hopes to become a rapper. The song he sings in the film, ?It?s Hard Out Here For A Pimp,? has been nominated for an Academy Award as well. But as previously reported, the song?s writers, Three 6 Mafia, will perform the track instead.

According to the UK?s Mirror newspaper, actress Eva Longoria said the actor was approached by several black stars, including Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington and Will Smith, who have asked him not to perform the song during the telecast......

OK I almost fell out when the song actually won. Soon as Queen Latifah started chuckling I knew they had won.

Yeah Three 6 Mafia represented well. Given the title of the song and subject matter, the performance was surprisingly tasteful and it wasn't the "embarrassment" to the race it was foreshadowed to be.

"I guess it just got easier out here for a PIMP"- Jon Stewart He's making jokes all night about them now.

Shamocha,

I done tried to told them. Crunchy Black and dem 3-6 Mafia boyz said. "We bringing it home". It was funny as all L.They actually got an Oscar now.

And of course Taraji P. Henderson did her thing.

Did terrance howard win ???

I thought he played a part in a movie of a pimp. Why did they not want him to do the song anyway?? I thought Superfly was a great movie even though it sent alot of black men to prison trying to copy his lifestlye. The Mack is a classic to me. Max Juillen was smooth in that movie.

3 6 Mafia won an OSCAR!!!

Not only did they PERFORM (being the 1st Rappers to ever do that)

THEY WON.

The performance
wasn't embarrassing it was done tastefully, while maintaining that real grimy street, hard life .

Mad respect from me 3 6....way to keep it real

All the way to winning an OSCAR

Uppty uncle tom Negros will hate though (sad can't respect their own musical roots)

COSIGN !!!!

I really don't se the problem with the song. Maryln manson and others can sing abotu killing birds and satan among other shat and folks trip on rap music. Our own people trip on rap music.

CONGRATS !!!!!!!

I love how white people do us. It's just so beautiful. We'll hook Jamie up, but we will still remind you that

"YAW STILL
N@GG@ZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

You just gotta love it.

That set us back 100 years. I don't give a fcuk what nobody say, that was some sh@tbull!!!!!!!

And if you don't understand, I still love you and your white husband/wife anyway. :shame: :smh:

How could it set us back any amount of years when it's our current reality? You think rap music is some dirty secret that black folk have successfully hidden in the back of our closets? :retard: If you gone be embarrassed, dont just be embarrassed when you see it on the stage at the Oscars.

I agree they really did a good job. I didnt expect them to win.

First I say CONGRATS to 3-6 Mafia!!

However, I don't think Howard should have performed the song. That's not who he is. He was ACTING when he performed the song. That's just like if the Oscars had asked Denzel to give an award but in the character from 'Training Day'. In my opinion that would be an insult to who Denzel really is.
I'm glad Terrence Howard didn't perform the song.

Who said I was talking about rap music.

"AND H@LL YEAH I BE
EMBARASSED BY THAT
CRUNK MESS!!!!!!!!!!"

You betta recognize.

WHITE people buy that sh@t more than us. Why do you think that mess is around in the first place. Hattie McDaniel won an Oscar in a roll that they only allowed us to portray at the time in the 30's. That's understandable. But it's 2006 and the triple six wins an oscar???????????!!!!!!!!!!!

"OH HELL
NAW!!!!!!!!!!!"

Can't justify that player.

Hopefully this works. Yaw know where I got it.

Anyway, yaw kneegrows need to tell the whole stroy. Yaw left out the part when they started panning all the black folks and the young people in the in the audience when they won. I wonder why they did that? And speaking of pimps, I literally grew up around them, so I'm not embarassed by them at all. I will tell you in a minute and won't side-step around it either. I have a problem with the glorification of the lifestyle because ain't nothin' beautiful about it.

I actually enjoyed the performance, and everyone knows I'm not a rap fan. I thought it was good. The dancers were wonderful, too...and I'm glad they won. Who GAF what the white folks say about it? What did y'all think they'd say? and I don't know why y'all black folks are/were embarrassed...hell, don't y'all listen to this music day in and day out?

and another thing...why was Terrance suppose to sing the song? It's not his damn song...he's an actor.

I'm going to tell yall 3 things:

1. 3 6 Mafia's next record going triple platinum...cause white folks goin buy off GP.

2. 3 6 Mafia will be on some movie sound tracks for a long time.

3. Teremce Howard should have performed just to make it known that he is a PURE ACTOR in every sense of the endeavor....

I thank you for showing yourself northen Tiger.

I have one question for you...do you even know what the true essence of hip hop arrived from? I'll answer it for you, Hip hop was an expression of the life some of us grew up around that mostly WHITE society, now YOU (uncle tom type) ignored as if it doesn't exist. It was a voice from the street, saying: hey we are HERE no matter how bad it seems to you...we living this, this is REAL, this is our REALITY. You can turn a deaf ear to it but it doesn't mean it isn't for real.

Reality is quality to me...you say I should be ashamed of something that is authentic & shows what is really going on in some parts of our black 'hoods' never. It needs to be displayed, now that it is out...people like you should help change that until it isn't a reality. Instead you want to hide it as if it really isn't going on.

You say you grew up around this...then it is apart of you, it made you into what you are today...you saw it & knew that wasn't the route you wanted to take....of all people you should be the one speaking in behalf of the representation. It spoke for your growing into a man & all that you had to go through as a black man to make it in TODAY's society.

You want us to be ashamed of how we grew up & hide it....I guess you are ashamed of yourself.

If you told your life story would you leave this part out of it? if so you need to re-examine yourself.
