How is your lawn doing?

Ok CD, now we're working with something. How many plugs do I need to plant? Cause I know St Augustine can spread over the lawn, but I know it will take some time too.

You normally use the plugs to help fill-in a few bad spots. I planted a few plugs in my yard where I was having some trouble with weeks. Once St. Aug takes root, it will run all over and eventually will take over your yard.

Thanks Bulldog MED. I'll stop by Home Depot today.
Just make sure you look at the back of the bags carefully to see what you really need. They have a breakdown on what you should use for your yard and when. Right now they are suggesting Weed and Feed (the yellow bag).
By the way here is a link to their site www.vigoro.com

Beans, do you see a lot of lawns in your area with St. Augustine grass? It may be difficult to grow in your area.

And that is what I want. I want it to just take over the WHOLE yard.

No. They only use that "Georgia" grass here. Fescue, rye, etc... I want some "Home" grass.....errrrrrr........some grass from home..........errrrr........well, you know. I sure hope that it can take root here with that red clay in the ground.

Bet! I thought I saw some of that when I bought that Scott's weed and feed fertilizer. The Vigoro was cheaper I thought, but I didnt know anything about it. Now since I know, I will be buying that instead of Scott's.

Where can I buy this?

CD, I really want some St. Augustine for my yard too. What is the "plug"?

They use some St. Augustine grass in that Atlanta grass Mixture the sell at Home Depot in Ga. I believe you just have to read what mixture they use on the Atlanta blend. I know thats what I used in my parents yard a year ago and it turned out pretty well.

 Bet! I need to find out.

If you get the plugs you have to plant them in a checkerboard pattern. This way they will take and spread out, usually about 1 foot apart

It was raining earlier this a.m. when I took this pic w/ the phone.

Lush...deep green... I put a lot of effort into the lawn this year.

N-32-15-20 lol for bermuda.

:smh:

Aint nothing like getting out there and doing the work yourself and seeing the rewards of doing it.

I do everything but cut. I ain't cutting no grass. Anybody can cut grass. Ain't nothing special about it. Been there and done that when I was a youngin...(well, I am still a youngin but you get the picture). I can get that done by someone else while I am at work and I can spend MY time taking care of the other essentials of the yard (flowers, weeds, leaves, etc...).

When I was in Phoenix teaching a training class, I rode all over the city checking out the yards or rocks. I saw some interesting things in some folks yards.

Here's a few shots of my yard after a fresh cut.

My landscapers came by yesterday, I asked them if I just needed sod and was told, "No, we've already discussed what your yard needs.............. WATER!." :(
