HBCU Basketball: November 16-22

USM up until a couple of years ago was a quality mid major who was winning about 27-28 games a year for a few years (and got snubbed 2 years in a row despite a high RPI).

Mississippi State is basically a mid major despite being in the SEC (because they aren't a power house conference).

Seattle is in the WAC which is a borderline mid-major program. Boise State got snubbed recently despite having a lot of wins

Va Tech is the best win (despite the Hokies not being a traditional basketball power recently) because the ACC is a Power conference in football and basketball.

And let's not forget Alabama State almost beating UAB (another tourney team from last year)

Compared to the SWAC, the teams that were beaten by the SWAC teams were all rated much higher. As long as the teams keep winning and keeping games close, there will not be a play in game or 16th seed in the tourney. I'm interested in how many lowers division games are the teams playing.

It would be nice to have an early season SWAC vs SLC or OVC challenge, along with some of the money games that are played.

While I do think Buzz Williams will eventually make Virginia Tech decent, Miss. State is easily a better basketball program than Va Tech. The SEC currently isn't a powerful conference, but it does have some powerful programs in it like Kentucky, Florida, and Arkansas. USM must have changed coaches, because they were rolling a few seasons ago. UAB is defintiely a quality mid-major program.

To me, it is some improvement in the SWAC, a few years ago these teams that Blue says aren't any good were still beating the brakes off SWAC teams, everyone went 0fer in OOC play

Maybe you can quote where I said they aren't good. ( although they clearly aren't )

Do we really need to have this conversation? Really.

JUST BECAUSE A SCHOOL IS A PWI AND THEY JUST HAPPEN TO BEAT YOUR SCHOOL DOESN'T MAKE THEM A MAJOR COLLEGE UPSET.

@bluedog shut the hell up dude. There is nothing wrong with noting progress. These wins would have been LOSSES in the past.

That's it. Don't let a little thing like facts get in the way even when it's staring you in the face.

Noting progress and exaggerating accomplishments are two different things. All it does is give a false sense of satisfaction. Next thing you'll be saying is they deserve an at-large-bid in the tournament.

But hey some of us feel so inferior. Any win against what they perceive to be the man is this gargantuan victory for hbcu's in their heads.

Most of the conference plays tonight. Alabama State and Southern SHOULD win tonight. I'm also watching the TSU game. I also want to see how Alcorn plays against Grand Canyon (since we play them this season as well)

Just how did you Come to that conclusion?

3. What was the biggest surprise, good or bad, from the first week of the season?

Dakich
: I'll disagree. The number of upsets is a surprise. Give some love to the SWAC. That conference landed two victories over so-called major programs on the road (Alabama State over Virginia Tech and Southern over Mississippi State) and got paid for it.

Blue is the type of joker that would shyt on his own 1st grade daughter for coloring outside of the lines.

Bruh you don't know anything about me. Just because my nutts don't swell up everytime we beat a PWI because I don't automatically perceive them as being superior just because they are a PWI . It's no reason to attack my character. If you were honest with yourself you would see just how sad that line of thinking is.

Again knock yourself out and don't let me stand in the way of your happiness. If you feel beating a team that was 9-14 last year. Who BTW they just had beaten by 20 Pts a year or so ago is this monumental accomplishment for hbcu's have at it.

Kumbaya my lawd..... kumbaya. Ohhh lawd kumbaya

Nobody's nuts are swelling because SWAC teams are beating PWIs...people are excited SWAC teams are beating basketball 1A teams, which hasn't happened as frequently in the past.

But keep riding that high horse.
