Cornell West: "Obama has a certain fear of free black men"

All this boils down to is the house and field situations again. Light skin vs dark skin. One ounce of blood vs pure blood. Sad. it will never end. It is in yall's genes.

You can talk about OBAMA and people do listen if the ones talking talk like they have a brain in their head. :smh:

Let someone who supports Obama start one thread on TSPN questioning 1 policy and see what happens.

One day in one of my graduate classes I went in Obama's educational policies and some black chicks approached me after class telling me "not to give the other side ammo." I was like, WTF. I support the brother, I just think his Educational policies are the same as Bush's and that these Gates Foundation Wackos are running the Dept.

You oversimply plenty of issues to put them in a box. Good job. I dont support him because I didnt support Bush and he has continued many of the Bush policies. If that makes me a house negro, so be it.

If a brother can't get an intellectually honest debate on a messageboard that is supposedly patronized by black college graduates then where can get one at but that just goes back to the dilemna of black society.

I say the same thing about Black frats and sorrorities. Compared to the work that BGLO's were doing in the mid 20th century, todays greeks are irrelevant to society.

So in other words, a BLACK man can't be a BLACK MAN, in BLACK SKIN in America and not know what it is like to be black unless he grew up in a non-privilidged household. OBAMA has not run from Blacks. He has not shut blacks out. I don't see it.

Blacks act like he was put there to listen too and cater to blacks only in WHITE RULED WASHINGTON D.C. POLITICS. Ya'll need to step into reality. :smh:

Since OBAMA don't know what it is like to be an average black man in this country, I want you to tell me what is Clarence Thomas problem then. He grew up getting every minority schollie and minority help at every corner. WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS BLACK LIFE EXPERIENCE AFTER HE "ARRIVED." :noidea:

I discuss the man's policies and folks jump down my throat like I talked about his kids. But when you question them, they know next to nothing about policies except what they saw on CNN. Then you have the Black folks who just started watching Meet the Press during the election and have not watched since the results came out.

This is one reason I am glad I was born black as hell to two dark skinned parents with negro accents down in Mississippi. Yall can never question my blackness or whether I got a light skinned pass. I ain't like yall mix bloods. 100% negro here. :lecture::emlaugh:

Do you know how easy it is to block any bill that comes through the House or Senate when one party votes as a block? Even if every Demo in those places vote yes for something, they would still have to get at least 10 to 20 REPUBs to vote with them. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN and the REPUBS that was threre said it was not going to happen.

REPUBS vote as a block and don't care if the other side like it or not. DEMOS are too busy trying to appease everybody. They will fracture and splinter the first time someone gives them a dirty look. :smh:

Man, you think the president is powerless? LOL You think that dude needs Congress or the Senate to do what he wants? The guy bypass Capitol Hill to authorize the bombing of Libya.

Pops whats any different in being called "sheep" or "koolaid drinker" or a "lost generation" if you do agree with Obama, MLK, or Tyler Perry. People are gonna always have something to say. Yall focus on the wrong thing. Cornel is saying some crazy shit in this article and i think Cornel is brilliant. Some may take that as im criticizing West.

Gotcha.......:smh:

Come on bruh. Obama did not meet with the CBC for over a year. His political director all but shut them out the door.
Yet, he is still running behind the Hispanics. The Dream Act.

I like the man and will vote for him again but lets not kid ourselves and act like this administration has had a love affair with black America. They just cut $25 million from Minority serving institutions (i.e., HBCU's) but RTTT got an extra $100 million.

When did I say the President was Powerless and where have you been living all these years.
The President can't sign any bill that don't pass through the House and Senate so the correct answer is YES. The President, ANY PRESIDENT, need the Congress and Senate to get shat done.

Name me one bill or law that has been passed by a PRESIDENT without Senate and House approval and input? If what you say is true, and it is not, OBAMA could have just wrote his laws for Medical Care and just signed it himself on the same day.

Refused to re-up the empowerment zone to serve as an economic generator in depressed communities but gives the banks whatever they want. Straight corporatist.

I said in the very first post that West was going out on a limb. What is wrong with looking at something objectively? Why must one either fully accept or fully reject something?

I agree with you on the name calling. That is the biggest problem in America. No one can have an objective conversation. We resort to name calling and placing folks in a box. Black Folks are especially guilty of this.

Dream act is part of his immigration policy.
You know the problem south of the border that every President since BUSH #1 has been trying to figure out? And when did OBAMA cut $25 million from Minority serving institutions. If my memory is correct, that was the work of the people in the House and Senate and MINORITY cuts are not the only things that have been hacksawed to death.

Am I wrong?
If it is only BLACK PROGRAMS, ONE, that are being cut, show me the cut sheet.

I do wish we could bring back empowerment zones. Nixon started cutting them things and Reagan essientially killed them.

its nothing wrong with having a good debate. its when people dont go along with your thinking then the name calling and insults start. We all have views. My problem is no one is coming up with an action of plan of how to improve this horrible state we in esp the black community. It aint Obama job to fix the black community, his job is to help fix the entire nation. I dont agree with alot of Obama decisions but what West is talkin about is pure foolery and doesnt make sense

I was on the community board of the one here in St. Louis. We loaned a lot of money out to small businesses who would never have gotten gap funding to get a bank loan. Also did large deals where we ensured a signigicant % of the work force lived in the community. We thought after the election and the stimulus package we would get a new mandate, but no dice. Most of the stimulus went to big corporations. If feels good to drive through our neighborhoods and see business we helped get a start.

Do you know some of the reasons why he didn't fight it.
Heres one example and you can find example of this in every city in America. People getting fat doing nothing except collecting a paycheck running these things:
$130 million for Empowerment Zone job growth goes untapped in Central New York.

Central New York's elected leaders celebrated in January 2002 when the federal government designated Syracuse an Empowerment Zone, an economic development advantage now shared by only 29 "distressed" urban areas across the nation. The zones were supposed to help rebuild America's poverty-stricken areas, enticing businesses to inner cities through a series of economic development incentives.

Among the incentives: As much as $130 million in federal tax-exempt bonds would be made available to businesses that build or expand within Syracuse's zone.

Seven years later, not a single dollar of the $130 million in bonding authority has been used. Worse yet, the federal legislation establishing the Empowerment Zones expires at the end of this year

The Secretary of Ed has the power to shift SOME money around in Department to a certain extent. Congress suggested cutting the grants for Minority Serving Institutions and they accepted with no fight. That is the reason HBCU presidents were down in Houston last month lighting into John Wilson, the Director of the White House Initiatives on HBCU's.

The cut went to the Minority Serving Institutions program. It provides funding for HBCU's, Tribal Colleges, etc...

Lets just be perfectly honest. The President is catering to Hispanics cause he needs their votes for 2012. He doesn't have to worry about black folks. Personally, I don't blame him and most of us would do the same.

He just sees the game and how the prezzy is a front man. He is trying to shame him into doing something to help the negro. I thought that is what our "leaders" are supposed to do. Get things on the agenda for us and action taken on those agenda items. Black folks spend more time talking about Michelle Obama's clothes than actual agenda items that will help the poor, working and middle classes.

"I like this comment"

I agree with you about the name calling. Lets just be honest though. Some people never intend to have real convos. The live for interjecting smart remarks just to stir up mess. Similiar to what we see on Fox News.

People criticized us because we granted bonds for a flagship hotel for the convention center here. The hotel is beautiful, but has struggled financially due to lack of convention business. But wehn we had our wrap up celebration, the general manager noted that over 50 people I believe, had been employed at the facility from nearby neighborhoods and have moved into the management ranks of property management in Marriott in different cities. Hundreds of others have been employed. It is a crapshoot and the programs were designed to operate at the direction of the community who are appointed by the various local leaders. If there was not a concensus built among the people and signed off on by the local leadership, you were not going to get a big project to issue bonds. Issuing bonds was one piece.

Not a good reason.

St. Louis Commerce Magazine
For workforce development, the St. Louis Empowerment Zone board granted $500000 to St. ... Finally, there's the convention hotel, the Renaissance Grand, for which the zone board leveraged a $95 million tax-exempt bond financing package. ...
