It was announced today that Bama State was in "serious negotiations" with Penn State for a trip to play the Nitany Lions in 2009. The game is expected to pay at least $500,000, possibly considerably more. Its not final yet, but it looks very likely the game will happen.

hmm, so y'all are playing Jacksonville State, and Alcorn is playing UAB this year. hmm, interesting.

That mofo is a freaking idiot. It's not worth it. Jaguar Nation we have an Athletic Director you can have. Just let us know how much we owe you to take him off our hands.

I agree. I am TOTALLY against playing these big schools. It's not fair at all. It ain't challenging the team at all. The only thing to come out of if it how soon they can put their practice squad in the game. Penn State starters would beat any SWAC school 100-0 if they really wanted to.

If 1-AA teams want a challenge...play a game that will be tough and they will have to fight to win. Alabama has Samford and Jacksonville State as well as one of the top D2 schools in the nation in North Alabama. If Alabama State wants to be challenged on their level, that is who they should play. If they play North Alabama in Montgomery for two years, they will STILL make the $500K. They may still lose the game, though. LOL

Schools gotta make them budgets. $500K ain't something to walk away from. If the Florida Gators offered JSU that kinda money, my azz would drive the team to Gainesville myself.

I can understand that but it's just the principle of the matter. If they want to give $500K to somebody, I am sure that there are plenty of lowly 1-A schools who would kill for it. Penn State does not need Alabama State for anything but a scrimmage and sometimes we gotta have some pride. What is the use in getting drug in front of 100,000 people?? They would get 100K fans come out to see them play Prentiss High School. Why choose BAMA State for the sacrificial lamb?? I would rather make $500K some other way.

If we stopped playing that Want-To-A-Big-Time-Classic (aka Gulf Coast Classic) in Mobile and play the game in Montgomery we would have that extra pay-day every year.

I have said it before and will say it again. If a SWAC school plays a money game against a BCS school in football that school can eliminate the money games they play in basketball. A game against Penn State would be a big shot in the budget for Alabama State. Instead of playing six basketball money games for 50,000 each, our schools can play one football money game and still end up with more money. And if Alabama State could make 500,000 in one game some other way, wouldn't they.

I'm not against playing these big Div. I schools shoot $500,000 in one year??? heck let me get one more game like that $ 1,000,000 for 2 games now name me a HBCU ath. department that's doing that right now ?
Why let some of these white schools get the money.. Cause most of these HBCUclassics are not putting out the money to the teams that are playing in it.. I think UAPB are trying to play against New Mexico State and that's $ 250,000 this coming up season.

Also why do you think the SWAC basketball or any other HBCU teams play all these big Div.I schools during the beginning of the season.. To make money for the ath. department and the football team at their school. Heck why take all the money from the Basketball program that's trying to get theirs. While the football program can get 2 games with a Div. I powerhouse or mid-major and make that money between $ 500,000-1,000,000 now that's just jack rabbitazz backwards to me.:confused:

That's only one... one now... and they're on national T.V. name another (classic) that's giving the schools alot money ?
I don't think there's a classic that's giving a hbcu school $80- $90,000 dollars shoot probably not even that..

not even talking about the check they'll get for going to psu. how much is the exposure alone worth? I mean, they'll get thrashed..anyone in IAA would but how many other IAA schools will have their name and image splashed around espn that day? close to zero. it's worht it. basketball can do less prostituting of its self, it'll help recruiting and who knows what else could come out of it.

Gotta make budgets. You just don't turn down a half mil. Some schools won't make that in 4 home games. Don't let pride overrule sound business judgment.

EXACTLY. SU didn't even have to play Houston next year, but that's a bonus for us and who knows that the outcome might be. If GSU d@mn near did it last year then I know we can.

Um we get way more than that from the John Merrit and MCC.
