Appears the SWAC isn't the only FCS conference that wants to move up as a whole

This is a bold move. I know first hand that North Alabama (UNA) isn’t financially ready to make this move. They struggled to go from D2 to D1 just recently.

but separate invites sounds really crazy

I just don't recall a SERIOUS discussion of the SWAC moving to FBS. Honestly, I don't see it occurring anytime soon. We have schools struggling to sponsor the full allotment of scholarships at the FCS level. Let's not even start to talk about our records against top FCS programs.

Anyway, guess it is Ok to dream without a real plan these days.. lol

Oh. Ok. A long term plan, that is well though out. Where all the "I"s have been doted and all the "T"s have been crossed. Everybody is on the same page. Hmmmmmm! I see nothing wrong with that. But, just my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with it especially if it gives every other school a chance to get on the same page and the deals made allow the schools to do so

You know there are still those that wanna leave Valley and UAPB back from the jump while others still long for that super HBCU conference with schools that barely wanna be HBCUs let alone be in a conference with them

This.

PV would roll in w/ its football home avg attendance of 3K-4K lol.

PV football handlers ~ HIGHLY UNINTELLIGENT.

there aren't a lot of reasons NOT to move. Waiting will cost you 5 million per school. Having success against top fcs programs isn't a requirement and once you've made a decision to go you'll get better players and have the success while you transition. We've seen that happen a few times. everyone may not be able to go immediately but if you can take 8 and grab tn state, and A&T you'll be fine. Together, less expense, we're struggling together so the records will be okay as we get better as your still playing a conference schedule. Planning w/o a due date is doing nothing. 2026 or 2027 needs to be our year. everyone else can catch the vision and execute ... except for us.

The original post… so far from anything realistic.

I believe there are other sections of this forum for election deniers and the kind of false information shared in the initial post.

So, as usual, you come from the Southland board being their "Help" over here trying to be the smartest person in the room

There's already been talk of half the UAC schools going FBS as a conference

Haven’t been in Southland in over two years

My comment was about CUSA (which my alma mater is part of as a FBS school) absorbing the schools to create this super, mega conference that is suggested

I do not believe the UAC as a whole is positioned to go FBS. Aspirational goals for some, more realistic for other.

The SWAC knows the feeling as Valley is in a much different spot than the other schools. These UAC schools do want to get in before the bar to join FBS increases…

I agree, people periodically state that we missed our chance in the early 90s but we may be getting a second chance at this.

the streaming wars have provided another opportunity.

Have to start looking at schools in certain markets (overall and Black folks). Then see which eight can initially form the conference.

Didn’t I write a column in this vein a couple of years ago?

Off the top of my head:

1. NCAT
2. Tennessee State
3. Texas Southern OR Prairie View
4. Florida A&M
5. Jackson State
6. Southern
7. Alabama A&M
8. Alabama State
9. Grambling State

in truth we could add georgia state. given the chance to play in a fbs swac they'd jump b/c we'd pack out their home slate.

When you say "we'd pack out their home slate", if I may ask, what exactly do you mean by that?
the swac is a natural fit for atlanta with our alumni base there. any atlanta school would experience great crowds with a swac home schedule. when you also consider that georgia state has a considerable black student population they'd average a near sell out. let's think about what a swac east schedule for them would look like with a crossover home game.
famu, bama state, valley, tn state and grambling at home. they'd fill their stadium
my first desire is for morehouse/spellman to move up/add sports and join the swac as they transition to fbs. reluctantly I'd take CAU instead. georgia state would do well and help the swac in the atl market immediately though.

It would've been cool if Spelman kept intercollegiate sports, so they and Morehouse could get Title IX waivers and potentially move up to D1 as "SpelHouse"

Albany's probably the closest school to ATL proper that is most SWAC ready with facilities and sports.

not Fort Valley?

And this FBS talk is DUMB! Leave that alone! Pretty soon the only FBS schools will be the P5 schools. Why tf would we go to FBS to get pimped like the G5 schools do? That’s a pipe dream

Albany, I believe, currently has all the needed sports for the move up to D1 … not FBS D1, but current SWAC D1.

Personally, I think it’s a fool’s errand. But, we have to do something to energize our respective bases and brands
