SWAC School's Slice of NCAA Tournament Pie

The Ivy League use do this exact same thing until recently. The difference between them and us though is money.

That ol Ivy League used to be our fall back in basketball and football but I think they will eventually change in football (either enter the FCS Playoffs or create a bowl game) like they did in basketball. I can't see dropping it and give up TV time.

I said in another thread that I was coming around on letting the regular season champ host the tourney because of Vermont. Burlington is the largest city in the state yet it is about the same size as Pine Bluff yet you didn't hear any complaints about the size of the locale or things to do. If your team is good during the regular season, they will take care of their business and at least make it to the finals (where of course we know they lost to UMBC) and the gym will be packed.

The problem we have in the SWAC is that we have a bunch of football only fans who could care less about basketball and it shows. I would give it another year or so at Delmar and see if it works or not. I would HOPE the new commissioner would consider moving it on campus or to a more central location

Help me out here folks! Exactly how does it benefit our schools, financially, to have the SWAC tournament? How do our schools benefit, financially, by sending the winner to the NCAA tournament? Why have the damn conference tournament at all? Crown a regular season champion and be done until we change the damn bylaws, because until that happens, we're just throwing money away we don't have and feeding the so-called reason for the very existence of the bylaw. Hopefully, that change comes before next fall.
In this case why have any championships? Why have golf, tennis, baseball, bowling, track, cross country, volleyball championships? None of those make money either. Heck why even have sports if that's your mentality?

You can't play dumb when everybody already knows you're smart. You know this is about revenue generating sports and pay-outs. What would be the sentiments of Southernites if your school went to multiple NCAA tournaments and didn't get a dime of it for their appearances?

I was addressing your comment about not having the SWAC tournament if it doesn't make enough money. You're saying do away with the conference basketball tourney because of cost but not to do away with the 7-8 other championships that the conference has to pay for that generate absolutely zero dollars, but still cost money due to travel and venue rentals. What's the difference if it is all about the bottom line to you?

We all knew the previous commish was fiscal irresponsible. How did we think the debt would get paid for? A spaghetti dinner fundraiser?

Has anything else come out about the misappropriating of dollars that were supposed to go to student athletes?

Seems like anytime folks wanna rob peter to pay paul, the kids always get the shaft..
