Fallout From SCG Moving

The bottom line is no matter where it is.........If it is not The Great Southern University Football Jags vs. jackson state university blue bengals, the probability is high that the average is going to be around the 30K mark (give or take a few thousand). Historically, jsu hasn't traveled well to Houston. However they haven't really had any incentive to do so. It will be interesting to see if the two collide what the numbers will be like. Attendance is down from where it was in the late 90's so.........who knows. The move is good though.....Change is good. I say this from a non bias perspective. It's much easier and cheaper for me to get to B'ham than Houston. And, I could drive back home after the game.

Dog, if you talking about us.....we should have something to say about AAMU. In the 2009 SCG we outdrew yall azz 2 to 1....at least!!!!!

In the cold......in the rain!!!! Hell, my wife still gives me grief about having her with me in those elements....lol

think logically... you came from Texas... you PLANNED a trip... we are an hour from Birmingham.... and the game was on LIVE tv.... if its raining and cold how many Black folks u think are going to wake up and drive an hour to sit in the rain and cold when the game is on live tv? If you wouldnt have DROVE/Flew to Birmingham you wouldnt have went to the game either.

They just love hearing themselves say stuff on here.

I think an hour drive is worth the risk of rain for a championship game.

It wasnt just rain.... it was FREEZING rain... not when the game is on live tv. You remember that Alcorn and JSU game that had freezing rain and was empty... it was that kind of freezing rain.

I understand why the people with ties to Alabama are a little upset. Hell the game was in your back yard. I would be upset if the SCG was in Jackson and they moved it. More money coming out of pocket now that game is in TX. The schools from TX have every right to be happy and the people with Bama ties have every reason to be upset. This move wont break attendance records but Houston is a better city than Birmingham.

You would still complain if the game were in Jackson.

Actually I probably would because the city of Jackson doesn't have the right amenities and infrastructure to carry that even right now! Once we get this stadium/dome issue resolved and the hotels built that are in the works then I would say Jackson is the best location. Considering its 3 hours or less from 5 schools in the SWAC. But New Orleans makes the most sense to me!

43,236

SU vs JSU 1999 - 47,621

The 2007 game was majority JSU fans! Grambling fan base did not show up that year at all and it was worse in 2008 with Grambling!

Get over yourself. You post as if you average 20K more than other schools. You don't.
And for the umpteenth time, the inaugural game was just that. We like new stuff. And the marketing for that game was unlike any other. Not only did they have radio ads for it here in Atl, I remember it was advertised on television too. And whether you like the bands or not, please don't act as if having all the bands there weren't a factor in the attendance numbers.
:retard:

I think it's clear what school consistently brought the most fans to Bham and against UAPB and GSU it was by 4-1 and 2-1 margins. We don't have to average 20K more than everyone else BUT we have the fan base and interest to show up when it's time to do so. People want to see JSU vs SU. If we play in Houston, I don't care if it's the 3rd year, we will have the highest attended game. PERIOD. We have the name recognition and fan bases to make it happen. Again, this game was created when only JSU and SU had consistently good teams. If we had gone every 2-3 years, various cities would have been bidding to get us out of Bham. Unfortunately, two of the teams with the smallest fan bases in the conference (AAMU and Grambling) have been the most.

That was an ice storm. That is on a whole different level than freezing rain. ..and 20K folks showed up to Bham. They just weren't from BAMA. The thing is, AAMU never showed up for SCGs outside of the first time they went so we don't if this bad weather excuse is an excuse or if it's real.

Without doubt its a better city, but the 3rd largest city in America caring about the SCG like BHam would is highly unlikely but atleast they have a bigger mall and more clubs which all most folks in here care about.........

CEE, if you want to use the "weather" reason for why AAMU didnt show up for that game, then fine. But please don't sit up here and say that y'all had more folks than we did....that's just absurd. And you know that (if you were there).

This move from B'ham reminds me of an innocent brother being freed from jail after 13 years. :emlaugh: Somebody somewhere needs to liable! :emlaugh:

but that doesn't apply in Houston, because everybody will be going to the SCG in Houston. So I advise everybody to get their tickets early, cause a SCG in Houston will surely sell out. just like the bball tournament has done since it left Bham. :retard: :scared:

Nobody is saying that MH. Folks just were ready to be out of Bham. Now I do think IF the matchup is right, then Houston will draw out the casual HBCU fan for the game who lives in Houston. SU vs JSU would be bigger in Houston than B-ham just due to the numbers of SU folks in Houston/LA next door and the cheap flights to Houston from Jackson via Southwest. Nobody is under the illusion that Reliant will be packed. I would imagine that TxSU and PV both would have more fans at the SCG if they make it than they did in Bham. The only numbers I expect to drop off is the fans who would have to travel from Alabama if either school made it. Surely I wouldn't expect the same turnout. The other advantage is now no one has a weather excuse for not going to the game. Reliant is a retractable roof so that eliminates the weather issue.

Bottom line is the fans no matter where are going to be suspect depending on who is there playing. But just maybe Houston draws out those extra fans of those schools and the HBCU fans in Houston who can just roll to the game and go home afterwards with no issue. Especially for a good matchup. I don't blame B-ham's council for their decision because it makes sense. The comments are whatever so I will not entertain them. It is a reason why Bham has wanted a dome stadium. They know that Legion field is raggedy and they are probably worried about what the MCC will do soon if that stadium does not get redone or they get a dome facility. I can actually see the ATL trying to steal yall's game from B-ham. I would be interested to see how your President and AAMUs president voted. Doesn't sound like it was any big battle over moving. We all know Duer didn't broker this deal without being told. LOL.

But yeah we know Houston is not the end all be all. Just something different after 13 years of Bham.

What does Texas Southern and Prairie View have to do with the Harris County Houston Sports Authority's ability to secure the championship game at Reliant Stadium? Absolutely nothing. Just like Alabama A&M and Alabama State had nothing to do with the game in Birmingham.

True!

The city itself is not going to be enamored so to speak. But one thing is for sure. There are a lot of HBCU alums in Houston. So if the SWAC got off their arse, they could make the SCG a big event for the weekend. Just saying.

The vote was unanimous......

That is it in a nutshell Frat. Houston will still will face the attendance issues depending on matchups that Bham did. But some of the excuses made for not going to the SCG have been eliminated even by fans of the schools who are in the game.

1.Weather
2. Nothing to do after the game

BThey know that Legion field is raggedy
I disagree. Legion Field may not have plush amenities, but I personally don't go to games for plush amenities. Legion Field's parking/tailgating can't be beat.

It was a unanimous decision. I'm not knocking Houston. I just hope folks got their eyes opened that Bham was not the problem with the SCG.
