Fallout From SCG Moving

you're double talking. You say I'm being negative by discounting the "young party crowd", then you go on to discount that crowd yourself. I agree that we are not surviving off the young party crowd. I only responded to that because I keep seeing how if the game is in "a party city" folks would come. Sorry, but I'm not convinced of that.
I think folks are trying to make the SCG out for something that it really isn't. It isn't some catch all event that will have everybody at every SWAC school excited. If ASU and TxSou are playing in the SCG in Houston, I won't fool myself that the students/alums of every other SWAC school would be hauling arse to get to Houston.

I don't know how you can say I am double talking. The young crowd does not carry HBCU athletics PERIOD. Look around at your games. Yes, we do need them there but I wouldn't count on them. They will come to party but I do think they will end up inside the game if they get over the hang-overs in time.

As for people trying to make the SCG out to being something it's not, I don't agree with that. We know what it is but we also don't know what it could be. We MUST try some other things. What is wrong with HOPING that we can eventually get 45-50K fans to the SCG on a yearly basis regardless of opponent? If ANY HBCU conference can make an event out of a football game, it's the SWAC.. We have already shown that. Houston has the population to allow for promoters to take a chance on concerts, step shows, parades, and parties that could take the SCG to event status. I like Jackson as a neutral alternative to Bham but I have always thought Houston was our most logical choice for the big SWAC events.

I think the working class JSU-Mississippi alums are in Dallas but the folks who left MS just to find a job .. they went to Houston. Those are sometimes the MAIN people ready to come out and support.

Houston has their fair share of JSU alums who are not just working class folks from the homefront. Houston just has more Engineering jobs than Dallas which is not JSU's strong suit with it just getting to your campus as a degree program. Dallas seems to have attracted a lot more accounting and computer science folks than Houston from our schools. Even a lot of the SU alums up in Dallas seem to be of different majors than most of the Houston folks. Not saying that Houston does not have those type of jobs either. Just with the diverse job industry in Houston. It will attract just as many blue collar folks as it does white collar folks. Dallas seems to be more white collar. Either way, JSU has a good TEXAS contingent between Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio areas.

Nobody is saying that MH. Folks just were ready to be out of Bham. Now I do think IF the matchup is right, then Houston will draw out the casual HBCU fan for the game who lives in Houston. SU vs JSU would be bigger in Houston than B-ham just due to the numbers of SU folks in Houston/LA next door and the cheap flights to Houston from Jackson via Southwest. Nobody is under the illusion that Reliant will be packed. I would imagine that TxSU and PV both would have more fans at the SCG if they make it than they did in Bham. The only numbers I expect to drop off is the fans who would have to travel from Alabama if either school made it. Surely I wouldn't expect the same turnout. The other advantage is now no one has a weather excuse for not going to the game. Reliant is a retractable roof so that eliminates the weather issue.

Bottom line is the fans no matter where are going to be suspect depending on who is there playing. But just maybe Houston draws out those extra fans of those schools and the HBCU fans in Houston who can just roll to the game and go home afterwards with no issue. Especially for a good matchup. I don't blame B-ham's council for their decision because it makes sense. The comments are whatever so I will not entertain them. It is a reason why Bham has wanted a dome stadium. They know that Legion field is raggedy and they are probably worried about what the MCC will do soon if that stadium does not get redone or they get a dome facility. I can actually see the ATL trying to steal yall's game from B-ham. I would be interested to see how your President and AAMUs president voted. Doesn't sound like it was any big battle over moving. We all know Duer didn't broker this deal without being told. LOL.

But yeah we know Houston is not the end all be all. Just something different after 13 years of Bham.

Damn iT... iT WAS TIME FOR A CHANGE.. iT WAS TIME TO TRY SOMETHING NEW... Lawd have mercy.. All you Bamas criticized everybody else for not driving way to damn Birmingham.. Lawd no the shoe is on the other foot.. Yall drive to Houston or shut up.. The Alabama folks on the board and the Birmingham city council have made more of this than what it is.. Now I blame the SWAC for not having the cities planned out 2 or 3 years ahead instead of the year of... This is an elementary business model that is piss poor...

Man, this is the SWAC and not the SEC. A year ago you would have said UAPB had absolutely no chance to win the SWAC or get to the SCG especially since Gram had just won. I will take SU's 16 starters returning and our chances to get there. Yall act this is the SEC. Everybody in the West probably has a chance.

I can agree with you there. Hell, Valley might win the EAST but I am just saying looking at how far you all have to come, you have a long row to hoe. Simply put, I think UAPB and PV are ahead of you all right now but that is just a prediction. You all might blow the WEST away because for 1, ALL of ya'll over there kinda sorry.

The SWAC COPs are good at doing this like when they decide to go from 7 games to 9 games to 7 games, they don't know how to give teams adequate time. I want us to go back to the 7 game format but if we gonna do that, they need to say now that we going to 7 games in like 2016 to give us time to get schedules ready. The don't do that in the SWAC and I don't know why.

It is good to try something different. The SWAC promoted the SCG (IMHO) as much as they could with its resources, in Bham. The nightlife argument against Bham is not legitimate. The weather argument against Bham is a good one. (But the BBVA Compass bowl with 2 non-Alabama schools and colder weather does OK). Bham is certainly not centralized in the SWAC footprint and neither is Houston. 4M metro area v 1.4M metro area ahh Houston wins.
So the gamble is can the SWAC turn a Mid-level city game into a major event. This will not happen for the basketball championships in any city. But let's give Houston an honest try. By honest I mean atleast 3 years. We may find later that New Orleans, Baton Rogue or Jackson are central, large enough and willing to take on the SCG.
By the way I would doubt the other Metro areas would be willing to do what Bham did and neither should Bham continue to do it.

Sometimes our administration doesnt understand that. Thats what made up the majority of SU fans when SU had sellouts every home game pre LeFleur.

think logically... you came from Texas... you PLANNED a trip... we are an hour from Birmingham.... and the game was on LIVE tv.... if its raining and cold how many Black folks u think are going to wake up and drive an hour to sit in the rain and cold when the game is on live tv? If you wouldnt have DROVE/Flew to Birmingham you wouldnt have went to the game either.

That's why it should be in Houston or anywhere but Bham. It's no secret that most black folks are fair weather folks. I happy the SWAC is using applying Colin Cowherd's logic......Championship games should be played in major cities with ambient temperatures above 68 degrees. Therefore, Bham doesn't qualify and never did.
