Kendirck you're full of shat! Dude here is the webpage you found it on:

http://www.vuusports.com/news/2010/2/19/MBB_0219104428.aspx

These are expressly not single game tickets:

:lecture: The numbers on the left are the prices for the entire week;
The numbers on the right are the sale prices for the first three days.

Do you honestly think students would pay $50 to attend one game? :retard:

Heck, I said I might have been wrong about if they were entire week or per game. But some students would pay $50 for tickets if they believed it was worth it.

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

Excellent Idea. We have to do something to get the college students and youngsters to our games. We should do that for the SWAC Football Championship also.

Someone needs to email Sharps big azz head this info, he doesn't know how to do diddly damn squat.:upset:

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

Please! No need to be captian sav a Hoe for Sharp, he didn't even know what the contract stated, he's simply a dumbazz. Everything starts at the top. He's the SWAC commish.

i shouldn't laugh but i cannot help it! :emlaugh: Damn usa. lol

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

Regular season tickets are no more than $10. When your market is used to that, jacking prices to 3 times the usual ain't a good idea.

The same premise applies. If you want to pay those prices, go ahead. But I wouldn't think a conference should set prices based on what another conference does. A conference has to do what they believe is in the best interest of the league.

Yeah, but this weekend did not feature regular season games. This was at a neutral site location for a championship event. You would expect ticket prices to increase somewhat.

Well graduates from the SWAC conference doesn't and didn't like 30 dollar tickets so knocking the prices down is in the best interest for the conference if they want some @sses in the seats. Build the tournament first, then charge 20 and 30 dollars, i guarantee people wouldn't mind paying.

I think first you have to build the SWAC basketball brand before building the tournament. Remember, the Super Bowl, NBA Finals and the World Series did not become popular just because they were championship events. Those events became popular because the sport itself was marketed, promoted and the level of play got better over time.

Right now SWAC basketball is the NHL. Moving the tournament to different locations is akin to the NHL putting the blue light on the puck or erasing the two-line pass. The SWAC schools along with the league have to market the sport long before the tournament.

If I am a casual fan with a family or just a single guy, why should I go to a basketball game at Grambling or JSU or Southern? Why should I pay attention to PV, Alcorn or UAPB basketball instead of those major in-state programs?

That is where it starts. At home. Because you can't duplicate a SWAC T event-like atmosphere with Steve Harvey and Katt Williams and all these shows during the regular season. It was like the fuss the press made about new fans coming to the NHL because of the Olympics. You can't duplicate that atmosphere every single NHL game.

You have to get the kids and the casual fans interested in the regular season. That way they might follow your school throughout the regular season and into the tournament. And you might keep some of those fans.

The SWAC T should be like the icing on the cake. Not the whole cake when it comes to "now" drawing interest.

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

Well one thing that I got out of this thread, the SWAC is going to always have hell moving forward if the product is sub-standard and the other reason is that Y'all are some cheap azz folks.

Champange.....Beer....Somthing....Nothing

But still when it'sall said and done, we just don't love basketball like we do football.

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

SWAC basketball is simply horrible. No one is going to go to any extent to see a SWAC basketball game. Sharp should bring all schools together and develop a comprehensive plan to improve the product and stop thinking people are going show up just because. Hell, there is better high school basketball being played. As a conference, the SWAC lost every out of conference game.

TGee, did you even do any research before making that last statement?

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

:emlaugh:

Grambling, JSU, TSU, PV and SU all come to mind with wins over D-1 teams...:emlaugh:

This tournament was also at a high school arena.....that is pretty nice and probably cheaper.....:read:

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

Maybe the high attendance in football is due to the better talent that is found in football versus basketball.

If you put some of the SWAC footabll teams versus some o the lower level PWC teams-they can beat them or keep up with them on the field.
Please post the SWAC's glowing OOC record in football.
:scared::scared:

I was about to post the same thing. The rent on the Merrill Center is probably half what it is for the area the SWAC used.

The MAIN thing I got out of this thread is that Duer Sharp signed an agreement that he originally thought was 3 years, but didn't realize until Wednesday (before the tournament started) that it was only for one. The sad part is that it appears that some of the folks from Shreveport and Bossier City thought the same. Talking about the blind leading the blind.

But I think it works out for the best. Seems like this deal was rushed and now they have time to get the city and the conference on the same page.

Re: SWAC opts out of basketball tourn...& Scott Ferrell: SWAC tournament a quick turn

We need to turn both events into a big College party weekend.

I agree. This is COLLEGE bball and it should revolve around the students. But I don't agree with letting students in free with their ID's. Single game tix should be $12 or $13. Students should pay ~$5 with a valid ID. But we also need to understand the cost structure. It may be based on the deal (or lack thereof) with the city. The Southland may have a sweet enough deal to have cheap tickets.

I really think that Shreveport can work for us especially since Grambling keeps popping up in SCGs and bring no fans. JSU and *ram SCG's may have had even higher attendances if held in Shreveport.

You hate to alienate any group of fans (like the BAMA's) but sometimes you have to do what is best overall. What is the December weather like in Shreveport?

If the SCG game would have been held in SHV in 2009, the High was 46 and the low was 39 with rain and drizzle..... I still say move it indoors....

Superdome? Reliant Stadium? Alamodome? Georgia Dome? Or how about we all man and woman up and endure the elements?

So glad that I know what I know about the price of the arena for the tourney, that is why I know that the tickets could have been cheaper and the area would have had more people in attendance....but u all carry on....:lecture:
