I think there is some kind of law that prevents police from working at clubs in BR.

It is NOT a law. It is just a policy that the police dept has. You can't hire them to work the clubs and save some lives, but you can hire them to escort the funeral procession to bury them.

Nightclubs are the only business that cannot hire police to provide security.

Word is that there was a fight at the night club (won't post the name) before all this. The losers of fight initially shot at them outside the club.

Exactly. There was a big deal about this a few years back.

One of my friends use to own a nightclub and lost his buisness because of a shooting. He went to the police and begged them for security and they turned him down. Ironically when you visited the other side of town(Tigerland) Police are always there.

Can they be hired individually, ie, not as police officers but strictly as security in the nightclubs? What's the deal with nightclubs being excluded to hire police as security?

My little brother is a police officer in Fulton County [ATL]. I know he does
those part-time gigs where he directs traffic at an intersection for less
than two hours - the boy gets PAID!!!!

NOPE, not in Baton Rouge as Cat Daddy correctly said. You cannot hire them on duty, or off duty, period. So all clubs have "T-shirt" security. Most of the "T-Shirt" security do a descent job inside, but when folks get thrown out the club for fighting, they go to thier cars and get thier guns, and "T-Shirt" security obviously can't do much about that, and the folks that fight know it.

Police in Baton Rouge can work Wal-Mart, even though a Baton Rouge Officer was kill at the Old Wal-Mart on Perkins Road a couple of years ago.

Well not only Wal-Mart, they can work any retail establishment.

Notice the Sheriff Deputy's at Tony's Seafood and I see BRPD at Albertsons, Save A Center, etc.

Thats exactly why Police should be allowed to work at clubs. It would prevent so many of these deaths. In West BR, they are allowed to work at clubs.

I'm not defending the policy, but it has been that way for years. Long before LeDuff became the chief of police. Lafayette city police can work the clubs there also as off duty security. This came up a few years ago and I can not remember the reasons BRPD and the EBR Sheriffs Dept gave for not allowing their officers to serve as off-duty security at clubs.

Notice they never have this problem in Lafayette, New Orleans or any other city because police can work the clubs. Im not pointing the finger at LeDuff for this matter, but something needs to be done.

That is very true! I have two good friends that work for WBR Sheriff's Department (one is actually Port Allen Police and the other is WBR). I know for a fact that they work the clubs over there and it has been that way for many many years. However, even with them doing security at the clubs, there is routinely some "scuffin" going on. I would hate to imagine what it would be like if they were not allowed to work the clubs.

I have been out in New Orleans plenty of times. Some times in some not so good locations, and nothing happen because Police were there in the parking lot. In Baton Rouge you never feel safe. These youngsters on them pills, and they have lost their mind, literally.

I got a plan...Immo grab that girl I'm with a sneak behind the bar..immo feel all on her first duriing the craziness...

The biggest thing the police do is if there is a fight, when the participats get outside, if thier are no police outside, each side goes straight for thier guns and start shooting. With police thier, they don't do that. Many times, the side that did not start the fight still goes and gets thier guns not because the want to start trouble or shoot anyone, but if they don't and the other side gets thiers, they are sitting ducks with no one to protect them.

However, Ryan did not get shot at the club, they were shooting at the club but no one got shot there. He was riding down the street later and 2 cars blocked the car he was in and started shooting. One story on the street says they were not looking for him, but mistook him for someelse that they had fought earlier (a week or so ago).

More violence in the City of Baton Rouge.

Five people were fatally shot in a church in Baton Rouge. Something is going terribly wrong in this City. Is it the politics, the judicial system, the educational system or do the people feel a lot of hopelessness. What do you think it is?

Crazy people... it is not the city as a whole...it is just these particular people decided to act a fool in B.R.
