Hey Mighty Hornet.... WE GOT ONE!!!!!!!! And this dude is REAL!!!!!!! I've been bragging on him for the last 2 years. This will be our next Desmond Cambridge, Obie Trotter, etc. CJ Hester is the most purest scorer I've seen come out of Mobile in a looooong time. Tell them LeFlore boys at Bama State, their worst nightmare returns again next year. But this time he has help. :D

This signing class is a BEAST!

LOL!
A&M finally goes to Mobile.

dont forget we got Mike Ford (Newcomer of the year) coming back :) Didnt he have 29 on ASU last year? After last year I aint predicting nothing anymore... We had the most talent I had seen here in years and couldnt win.. So unless Im talkin smack... I aint predicting nothing.... but I will say Mike Ford is going to put up huge numbers this year.... and our starting backcourt may be 2 freshmen (both all state and both carried there teams to state championship games).

And I know you aint forgot about Hayles visit to Huntsville last year., right?

MH... Why do the Bama St folks bring that up like Hayles did something super special.... he has 16 points 0 steals, 0 assist, and 3 turnovers.... That was good for him... but nothing memorable... He aint nowhere on Mike Ford level. Mike AVERAGED more than that lol.

mighty hornet said:
I'm sure if Hayles was as out of control as Ford and took as as many shots as Ford, he would've averaged more too. LOL

~snicker~

Kobe and Steve Nash send help!!!

Mike didn't take a lot of shots. Obie took the most shots on our team. Mike Ford ain't no Trey Johnson or Brion Rush jacking up 30 shots a night.

Out of control and takes as many shots? He took 13 more shots than Hayles..... keep in mind Hayles is 6'4 guard..... Mike Ford is 6'8 guard/foward..... the two cant be compared.... and Hayles played 758 minutes to Fords 617 minutes. Hayles had a pretty good season for a freshman, but he aint no Mike Ford... Not to mention he would have been KICKED OFF THE TEAM for that move he pulled in Birmingham swining at another player because he was frustrated.

DELTA DEVILS BASKETBALL ADD FOUR SIGNEES

Itta Bena, Miss.--- The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils basketball team announced today the addition of four signees for the 2006-07 basketball season. Looking to add depth as well as experience to a young returning core, Head Coach James Green will welcome a seasoned group of junior college student-athletes to the MVSU family.

?We are excited to announce the addition of these players to our basketball family. We feel that these additions will give us a chance to raise our level of competition. We know that their character and ability will blend well with the group of returning players,? said Green.

In the back court the Delta Devils will welcome Wayne Parks (6-3, 185, Combo Guard) and Mike Davis (5-9, 190, PG). Parks a native of Memphis, Tenn. prepped at Hillcrest High School where he averaged 17 points, five assists and five rebounds per game during his senior year. Following high school Wayne attended Southwest Community College where he helped his team reach the National Juco tournament with a 26-8 record. Parks averaged 11points, three assists and two rebounds per game at Southwest.

Davis is a product of Compton, California?s Verbum Dei High School where he averaged 12 points and six assists while being named 1st team All-Conference. Davis continued his education at Panola Junior College where he averaged 10 points and 10 assists under the tutelage of former MVSU basketball player Scott Monarch.

?Parks is a very savvy combo guard that adds perimeter shooting and depth at the point guard,? said Green. ?Mike gives us a true point guard that will help solidify the position. He is very knowledgeable and comfortable at starting an offense and defense.?

Also joining the Delta Devils are swingmen Darius Simmons (6-4, 185) and Demakus Barnes (6-2, 185). Simmons out of Gary, Indiana?s Westside High School also attended Southwest Community College where he averaged 12.6 points, 6 rebounds and three steals per game.

Prior to joining the Delta Devils, Barnes attended Connors State College where he averaged 11 points and five rebounds.

?Simmons is a very athletic and skilled individual that can score in many different ways,? Green said. ?Barnes is a great defender that has an extremely high basketball IQ. He will provide depth and toughness on the perimeter.?

# Grambling State signed Class 2006 guard Charles Harper of San Antonio-Madison, Tex., according to TexasHoops.Com 6'1 165
http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=53084

also recruited by jsu, southern, pv and uapb. quick pt that can get team into offense and find open man.

tommorrow, the 17th is the last day of the binding spring signing period. after that athletes can sign grant papers but those are nonbinding and are no guarentee that those students will actually enroll at the university....to my understanding

well coach green addressed two of our major needs in adding people who could play point guard, and guys who can score. Hopefully next year we can get some young size in.

Jackson State men's basketball coach Tevester Anderson was adamant his team needed to add more size and 3-point shooting in the offseason.

And after a seven-person recruiting class was announced late Friday night, consider those two needs filled.

Highlighting the class are DeShawn Ford, a 6-foot-6 swingman from Columbus (Ohio) State Community College, and Stanley Turner, a 6-11 center from Meridian Community College.

Both will join the Tigers, who finished 15-17, 5-9 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference a season ago, as juniors.

"Ford's a guy that is very mature, can play three positions and is probably our best defender in the incoming class," Anderson said. "And Turner is a really big guy that has a soft touch and nice feet. We've been looking for a guy like him for a long time to help us inside. Both should see a lot of playing time right away."

Also included in the class are Garrison Johnson (6-6, F, Smyrna, Ga.), Grant Maxey (6-7, F, Toledo, Ohio), Carl Henry (6-1, G, London, England), Matt North (6-2, G, Columbus, Ohio) and Kenny Russell (6-3, G, Atlanta).

"I wouldn't say it's a great class, but it's certainly a very good one that fills all of our needs," Anderson said

Anderson on this year?s signees:

?Deshawn Ford is a guy we snuck in. UNLV was recruiting him really hard. He?s perhaps one of the more mature players in this class. He will come in and play without a doubt. He?s a very sound player. He?s very strong and he?s an excellent defender. He can really shut you down. He?s a great defender down the floor and in the perimeter.?

?Garrison Johnson is a tremendous wing player. He is an excellent passer and ball handler. He is a multi-position player and he?s an excellent student. A lot of schools were after him really hard and we were very fortunate to get him. We?ve got a basketball player plus a great student in him. He will get a degree and be a very successful person one day. He also has a really strong basketball IQ?.

?I like Grant Maxey a lot. He?s long and he loves to play the game. He rebounds the ball well. He?s from an athletic family, so he has those genes. His mother played at Kansas State and he has a good background in the game. I?m excited about him. I feel like he can come in and be an impact player for us.?

?Stanley Turner is the big post player we?ve been looking for since I got here. He?s a legitimate post player with soft hands and light feet. We?ve been looking for a big man that can rebound. I think he will fill a void we have there. We wanted him badly and were able to get him here.?

?Carl Henry is a very, very quick player and he?s an excellent shooter. I was really impressed with that. He can get down the court and shoots the ball extremely well from all over. He?s a talented player and exciting to watch. We are happy to have him.?

?Matt North is a shooter. More specifically he?s a three-point shooter. We think he will really fill it up for us. He is a knock down shooter from anywhere on the court and we like him a lot.?

?Kenny Russell is an excellent combo guard. He?s a very solid player. I like his basketball IQ. He played on a very good team over in the Atlanta area. A lot of schools were after him, but we were able to get him and we are extremely happy to get him.?

SU signs Brittany Groves!

Brittany Groves admitted the first thought that crossed her mind about visiting Southern University didn’t have anything to do with the school’s campus or successful women’s basketball program.

“I thought about hurricanes,” said Groves, a life-long resident of Los Angeles. “I didn’t think I would ever really go down to school there.”

However there was a change of heart following Groves’ official visit during Memorial Day weekend — enough so that the 5-foot-7 point guard committed and eventually signed a scholarship.

“My parents told me it didn’t hurt to give it a try and I didn’t want to ever regret it,” Groves said. “I went on the visit with an open mind, that it could be a school that I could possibly go to. When I got there it was nothing like I thought it would be. I just ended up really liking the school.

GSU men ready to begin again
Several signees already in school
By Nick Deriso
nderiso@thenewsstar.com

GRAMBLING ? Grambling State's newest basketball players have already started the rebuilding process.

GSU coach Larry Wright will have five signees in summer school, a process he said helps prepare them both physically and mentally for the coming season.

Ringgold guard Emmanuel Calloway and Jonesboro-Hodge forward Andrew Priestley are both attending GSU's early sessions, while Georgia center George Akpele, Texas power forward Anthony Lloyd-Cooper and Alabama forward Terence Nixon will arrive for the second summer semester.

"Having them here in the summer is about more than going through the strength-and-conditioning environment ? even though that's important since most high school kids don't have one," Wright said. "It's also gets them used to the academic expectation of college, as it relates to athletics."
