Yards - 2009

If you didn't get the weeds up before laying the sod, you are just going to have to deal with them. If they are large enough, try pulling them up at the root. Weed and Feed may help, but depending on the type of weed, it just my help the weeds grow just like your grass. If you want to use weed and fed to get rid of weeds, it is best to use it before the weeds start growing. I have always used that as a winter spread while my grass is still dormant.

The brown spots usually mean the grass was cut too low too early. Let it grow, then raise the mower next time. Water the grass as much as needed too. Fiyah mentioned somewhere earlier about keep the mower high in the early summer months.

These pics don't show at my job but MANE you ain't did no work. Come see my yard...and I will show you some work.... lol

lol Come on now TP! Any yard work requires work, even the little stuff like inprovements! Check out that symmetrical approach and design... a novice who pulled out some simple geometry to get it laid out.

Besides, I'm not trying to have a royal menagerie... all those flowers require too much time. lol Simple is always preferable in my opinion.

I read your previous comment, but is your yard THAT bad??

I've been watering my grasss. It's been 3 weeks since my last cut so it looks out of control but it's getting dark green. I got a plan for that this Saturday. :)

You have to remember that this is TP and he is special. This is the man that had to read the directions on how to light charcoal.

LOL.........

For your info, I bought charcoal that already has lighter fluid. I had to read directions on how to STACK the charcoal into a pyramid. (but I did read the directions on the charcoal bag too.... lol)

But yeah Brave, my back yard is bad. Weed galore. I went out there last week with a shovel to get weeds out because pulling them did not work. ...and a trowel shovel would not work either. My yard is half weeds, half grass. I will have to go out there every weekend this summer to make sure my grass is in good shape next year. I am moving plants and throwing away all the ugly mess in my yard the previous owners put there. They had just as bad of taste in the house as they had outside of the house. That house has been workin the schitt out of me.

Well I knew my yard was gonna be bad when I returned from my travels around the country the last 2 weeks. Got in last night and saw all types of brown patches in my yard. We haven't had any rain in about a month and since I wasn't home, there was no one to water it. I'll take some pics and then show you all how I'm gonna recover from this and get my lawn green again...

Pix from the yard up north. I created my own striping machine and the stripes looked really great yesterday before I ran the sprinkler sys last night. lol

And no, I didn't consult the Ag Ext of Texas A&M or Ohio State's deal. lol I went to the local feedstore and looked/read...:read: The camera phone doesn't do the yard justice because it's really really deep dark green. Neighbors came over late last night inquiring about how I put the stripes down and also how I got it so deep green. :D I told them I used Chem Lawn and a lawn svc. :emlaugh: lol :bawling:

I cut 3.5"-4" for hectic Dallas heat/sun. It's so lush it feels like a carpet. :D I wanted to lay down for a few and enjoy last night.

Front sprinkler system has a "hole" where the sprinklers cannot reach this one area.

P, that's nice work! I can't get my grass looking right for nothing.

Keep @ it buck! It'll happen.

Last night, before extensively watering :retard:, my yard ALMOST looked like this w/ the stripes VVVVVVVVVVV:

I made my striper from scratch vs paying upwards of 179$ for one. I think all total I spent 35-45$ on materials and numerous man hours perfecting it. :)

You still on that striping kick huh?

Man I cut the yard this morning. I still have to edge, but just cutting and weed eating took me 3 hours!! Riding mower here I come.....

I'll take some pics today or tomorrow and post. Grass is coming alomg well. Its time for round two of fertilizer, just using turf builder, instead of my standard Triple 15. It is too hot for Triple 15, it would burn my grass. I cut it shorter than normal today too, so I cn apply the turf builder. One more round of fertilzer in August and I will be done for this summer. I will lime the yard this fall, just when it starts to get cool and before I plant my rye grass.

One thing I will say about Bermuda, it fills in bare spots well. Otherwise, it sucks!

Suge, those stripes separated me from my neighbors up nawf. lol They're looking like-----> :what: :retard: :argue2::noidea: LOL!

Everything's probably burnt against since I'm down here (north of HTown) and there's a water ban in the area up north. :(

At some point soonest, I'm going to the Bermuda/St Aug mix one more gain. I was thoroughly impressed w/ the fullness, looks, and texture it presents, when water is abundant.

Alright, yall got till the end of July to get your pics ready. We are going to start a new post and see how much progress we have made. My mower is now at 3.5 inches and will be raised to 4 inches at the next mowing. Grass is soft, and feels like carpet. I just have one problem area where new sod was put in after removeal of a sidewalk, but I have been hitting with water 4 times a week, and it is starting to show signs of life again....

Also next mowing I will start hitting the front yard in a different direction....

My other patch spots have grown in quite nicely.

Fi, y'all muthafuggas cheating down here. I see how damned green everything is around here. :slap: Y'all been getting TONS of rain and we up north haven't been getting too much of nothing lately. :|

I'm about to cheat too since y'all cheating w/ the rain. :|

Man that was the last time we got some rain up until this past week.

Now 2 1/2 months without any rain has hurt my yard real bad. We are about 12 inches behind in rainfall this season (wish I had a sprinkler system).

This is what it looks like now, I'm trying to at least keep it looking decent.

Hey Fiyah, word to the wise.

I have a sprinkler system and I have been trying to keep up with the heat and the lack of rain.
However, now that I have received a two hundred dollar water bill, I have shut off the sprinkler...

Your settings and timing must be off. If it is set up right your water bill shouldn't jump that much from month to month.

*coughing* Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiddddddddddd....

I JUST paid a 275$ deal and these dumb muthafuggas in this backwards quaint city charged me 130 something $$$ for septic disposal. :retard: Funnier that there are 2 water meters in the front yard where the builder wanted to have a separate meter for sprinkler system only and one for the house. They didn't separate them and the city uses some formula to calculate what they think you're using in terms of waste. I've explained to the dumb bitches, along w/ several neighbors as ALL of us have underground systems, that when they see a spike in water usage, it's not because we're @ home flushing the damned toilet 2000 times a day, it's because we're watering our lawns. :retard: Dumb muthafuggas.

Also, it rained the last 3 of 4 days so the yard is actually responding and greening (thank de lawd!). Howsinever, while I was away for 3 weeks, some bugs got in the yard and have commenced to eating up the roots. (I can tell :read: ) So, I put some poison out a few days ago before the rains and HOPEFULLY, this will continue the healing process. Also, I'm gonna' put some nitro down on this bad boy to get that deep green effect again. W/ stripes. :D

Lastly, since I leave often, some damned geckos/lizards :retard: have moved in the crib (kitchen). :| This is quite unacceptable and I can't put out traps fast enough. Another realtor is coming soon so I don't need shenanigans going on w/ the uninvited house pets. lol :|

I will try to post some pics this weekend. We have been getting some rain lately, so my grass is starting to turn green again.

Naw, the timing is cool on the system, but DeKalb County has made some amendments to the billing charges; it is now tiered by usage....:smh:...Panth88, I mean this when I say it....I understand!

These dumb bastards don't bill based upon your actual usage... it's a formula where 0-5K gallons is 22$ per month and then avg of your prev 2 yrs usage for the same month :retard: + some calculation on up to 5K gallons of septic and then the avg of prev 2 yrs of septic charge :retard: + 15$ garbage disposal. For 5K-15K gallons, it's 32$ per month, etc etc.

Sometimes, if I haven't been here in a while, I'll let the water run and waste it on the street/driveway/sidewalks :emlaugh: because I'm going to be charged the same amount if I use 5,001gallons or 15,000 gallons or 15,001-20,000 gallons. lol There was a water restriction earlier in the year and I did run water on the street throughout a hot sunny day and they sent a code-enforcement dude to try to get me to stop watering the street (even called the police to help back him up after I didn't comply). I told all 3 of them to go "fvck yourselves w/ a broke dick dog and don't step across the sidewalk or I'll eagerly and rigorlously defend my homestead. :D" Dumb stupid euro-bitches! :uzi: Can't stand what they do but I respect it's their jobs.

Two things 1) Who won the best yard  2.) An who is preparing for next year now? This is the best time to get it ready for 2010.
